Dragonball
Coming to Earth
Kakarot was born sometime in 737 Age on Planet Vegeta, during a time of great turmoil for his panet. His father, a low-class Saiyan warrior named Bardock, evidently perishes in his home planet's destruction, and his older brother is Raditz, is no where to be seen. It is unknown what happened to his mother, but it is possible she perished before Planet Vegeta's destruction. After crash-landing on Earth, Kakarot becomes the adopted grandson of an old man named Gohan who re-names him Goku. At first, Goku was extremely violent and ill-tempered, not obeying Gohan at all, but one day he fell down a deep ravine and suffered severe head trauma that sent him into a coma and very nearly killed him. After he woke up, he became a very nice young boy.
His Grandpa Gohan taught him martial arts and told him about such things as the city and people. Gohan one day discovered Goku's full moon transformation, and thus told him to never look at the full moon. However, one night Goku did, and he transformed into the Great Ape, causing him to unknowingly kill Gohan. After his grandpa's death, Goku still stayed at his home at Mount Paozu carrying out his daily life of survival. From a young age, Goku developed the impression that his birth parents abandoned him in the mountains as a baby, leaving him for Grandpa Gohan to discover.
First adventure and meeting Bulma
Goku is introduced in the Dragon Ball manga when he is 12 years of age (initially he claims to be 14, but it is later clarified during the Tournament Saga that this is because Goku had trouble counting), as a young boy living in obscurity on Mount Paozu. Goku owns the Power Pole and later the Flying Nimbus [a golden flying cloud] when he meets Master Roshi.
Goku is seemingly normal except for his lack of knowledge of the world, his great strength, and his tail. In the original Dragon Ball series, he accompanies Bulma and soon afterward Oolong, as they try to acquire the seven Dragon Balls together. During their initial quest Goku confronts Yamcha who at first challenges Goku, but is soon overcome and then, along with his best friend Puar, joins him and the others. On the way he meets the Ox King who trained with his Grandfather and offers Goku to marry his daughter Chi-Chi one day. In the end they stop Emperor Pilaf from taking over the world and discover that Goku can turn into a Great Ape when he looks at the full moon. As a result, Yamcha cuts off Goku's tail using Puar as a pair of scissors. In the end, Oolong is the first to speculate that Goku is not from Earth, raising the question of whether he is "some kinda alien."
The World Martial Arts Tournament
After the quest finishes, Master Roshi agrees to train Goku, but only if he finds him a pretty girl. Another wannabe student named Krillin assists Goku, and they finally return with Launch. After hard work, the two develop into two of the most powerful fighters on Earth. Krillin is his rival at first, but they soon become best friends after the World Tournament. In the Tournament Goku is reunited with his friends Bulma, Yamcha, Oolong and Puar. He passes through the competition against Giran in the quarterfinals and Nam in the semifinals. In the match against Giran his tail also comes back.
In the final he fights Jackie Chun [who is Master Roshi in disguise]. The fight starts with a couple of taunts and finally they exchange Kamehameha waves. The ring nearly explodes, Jackie Chun then uses a double afterimage, and Goku always hits the image. The true Jackie Chun gets behind Goku and kicks him onto a wall Goku gets up and uses a triple afterimage, and because Jackie Chun only used a double, he can’t see Goku coming from the air up to him and crushes him. Jackie Chun then uses the Mad Cow Attack in which he looks to be drunk. Goku fails in dodging his moves. Goku then acts like a monkey and seriously hurts old Jackie Chun with his tail. Jackie Chun then seems to prepare a Kamehameha wave, but actually it was a hypnotizing move that puts Goku to sleep. Goku soon wakes up and uses his grandfather's move "Rock, Paper, Scissors" (or Janken Punch). However, when he yelled "Paper", he was using "Rock", and was able to hurt Jackie Chun in his eyes. Jackie Chun then begins to get quite mad and uses his deadly electric attack that strikes Goku. It seemed that only Goku’s grandfather, Grandpa Gohan ever escaped the attack. When Goku was about to give up, he looks at the full moon and turns into a Great Ape. Everyone is shocked and runs away (except for Goku’s friends and the Referee).
Puar transforms into a pair of scissors and tries to cuts Goku’s tail off. But Jackie Chun uses the classic Kamehameha Wave, and seems to have killed Goku, but actually he destroyed the Moon in order to prevent further transformations. Because Goku is naked, he borrows Krillin's clothes. To Jackie Chun's surprise, Goku has enough energy to perform another Kamehameha wave, which Jackie Chun can only avoid by jumping. Goku uses this opportunity to kick Jackie Chun out of bounds, and it appears that he has landed just outside the ring. Goku's victory is declared but Jackie Chun draws the attention to how he managed to land. As he was falling he was able to insert his left foot into the side of the ring, only barely managing to stay off the ground. Jackie Chun climbs back into the ring, and then says to use only physical movements since they used up a lot of energy attacks and both are now depleted. After a lot of punching and kicking, they both charge at each other and both are hit by the others strong jump kick. The Referee starts a count for each one of them. When neither get up by the end of the count, he declares the first to stand and say "I am the world champion!" would be the winner. First, Goku seems to stand up, but falls before he can finish the sentence. Jackie Chun then lifts himself up slowly and remains that way a bit before he finally spouts the phase, thus he is declared world champion.
Master Roshi then takes everyone to dinner and plans on paying with his prize money but because Goku eats so much, the money is spent nearly completely.
Fighting the Red Ribbon Army
After the first World Martial Arts Tournament Goku participates in, he leaves once more in search of his grandfather's Four-Star Dragon Ball. Along the way he confronts the ruthless Red Ribbon Army who are also seeking the seven Dragon Balls and have no scruples with killing anyone — even women or children — who get in their way. Goku first defeats Colonel Silver and ends up traveling to Jingle Village where he meets Sno. Goku battles through Muscle Tower defeating many of General White's Minions. Goku then befriends a defective android Android 8 and they defeat General White. Goku then battles and defeats General Blue the Red Ribbon Army's most powerful operative with the help of Arale Norimaki. When that failed they turned to world's deadliest assassin, Mercenary Tao to kill him. Tao at first is too much for Goku, but with the assassin thinking he completed his mission, Goku climbs Korin Tower to be trained by Korin and then defeats Tao. After Tao is defeated (presumed dead until a later saga) by his own grenade, Goku promises his new friend Upa that he will use the Dragon Balls to revive his father Bora who's life was taken by Tao. Goku then storms the Red Ribbon Army's fortress and kills Staff Officer Black, defeating the entire army.
Battling Fortune Teller Baba's warriors
After Goku's Victory against the Red Ribbon Army he is left with one ball left to track down so he could revive Bora, but the only problem was that their radar couldn't track it. Roshi tells Goku of his older sister Baba who can find anything. Goku sets out to fortune teller baba's palace with Yamcha, Krillin, Upa and Puar. Baba then turns out to not be so generous forcing them to fight her five strongest warriors to get their request.
The first fighter is Fangs the Vampire who defeats Krillin easily but Upa and Puar team up and defeat him with garlic breath and an imitation of the crucifix. Yamcha goes up next and fights an invisible opponent, called The Invisible Man, who he defeats because of an idea that Krillin came up with, he pulls off Bulma's shirt and exposes her breasts. Master Roshi, overwhelmed by this surprising (yet enjoyable) event, literally bleeds a geyser of plasma from his nose. This ends up all over the Invisible Man, making him not quite as invisible as before, thus leaving him open and in clear view of Yamcha. Yamcha subdues the ruined Invisible Man, and the gang move on, to the next opponent. His name: Bandages the Mummy. This ferocious foe defeats Yamcha with ease, but Goku is able to overcome the odds and defeat him.
Next up is the infamous Spike the Devil Man, who's terrible Devilmite Beam attack is known to kill all those who are unfortunate enough to be hit by it by amplifying their inner evil to a fatal, explosive level. Goku, proving to be more than a match for Spike the Devil Man, pushes Spike the Devil Man to bring out his deadly technique, much to the dismay of Master Roshi and Fortuneteller Baba. However, Goku remains unharmed! Goku turns out to be pure of heart, through and through, and it doesn't take long for Goku to topple the wicked fighter from Hell.
The last opponent is a mysterious man wearing a bunny mask, who proves to be equal to Goku and even knows the Kamehameha. Goku has the man on the ropes until his opponent grabs his tail, disabling him, and then proceeds to repeatedly slam Goku against the ground; even to this end, Goku refuses to give up. At this point, Master Roshi, who had noticed something familiar about the man from the start, reveals that he is Goku's deceased grandfather, Gohan. Though shocked at this revelation, the others frantically try to think up a way to help Goku, but Roshi refuses to let them, knowing that Gohan will not give Goku any more punishment than he can handle. Bulma refuses to listen and accuses Gohan of outright cruelty, but at that moment, Gohan accidentally rips Goku's tail out by the roots. Free of this weakness yet again, Goku prepares to attack, but Gohan promptly surrenders, which surprises all around him. Gohan congratulates Goku on how strong he has become, but chastises him for never managing to overcome the weakness in his tail. Through these words, Goku realizes just who the man is, and, seeing no other reason to continue concealing his identity, Gohan unmasks himself. Overjoyed to see his grandfather again, Goku bursts into tears and leaps onto his grandfather in an emotional reunion. After greeting Master Roshi again, Gohan explains that he had masked himself to test Goku's strength, as Goku would most likely hold back if he knew his identity.
Baba and Gohan explain that there are two worlds; the mortal world and the Other World, and she has the ability to bring the dead back to life. However, travel between the two worlds is very specific; Gohan is only permitted to stay in this world for one day. Baba had predicted that Goku would come to her, and Gohan had even approached her and asked as such, though she was unaware that Goku was Gohan's grandson. Goku then shows Gohan the Dragon Balls, and explains their nature and his adventures with Bulma and the others. Gohan thanks Master Roshi for teaching Goku all he knows, but Roshi tells Gohan that he only taught Goku the bare essentials, and knows as little about Goku's strength as Gohan himself does. Upa expresses guilt for wanting his father resurrected when Goku's father is dead, but Gohan explains that he is quite content with the afterlife and thus wants to remain dead, returning to the Other World after a final farewell. Baba tracks down the final Dragon Ball; it is with Emperor Pilaf.
Goku catches up with the three in no time. Emperor Pilaf then makes a deal with Goku that they will fight and the winner will get all the Dragon Balls. Emperor Pilaf, Mai and Shu then enter robot battle suits to fight Goku. They know his weakness is his tail (they don't know it came off in the fight with Grandpa Gohan) so they get behind him (thinking it's still there) but can't see it, Emperor Pilaf then calls time to devise a plan to beat him, they think he's just hiding his tail in his pants so Mai grabs Goku and Emperor Pilaf uses a flamethrower built into the suit to burn off his pants to find his tail but all they see is his butt with a hole where his tail was, realizing his tail is gone and they have no chance they take the balls and run, Goku chases them and they fire a missile at him, he then throws it back and they give up the Dragon Balls and, because he is naked from the waist down Goku takes Shu's clothes and flies off on his cloud to get Upa and wish his father back to life.
Traveling back to Bora's grave at Korin Tower, Goku summons Shenron and wishes to resurrect Bora. As Upa tearfully reunites with his father, Goku grabs the four-star Dragon Ball before it can disperse with the others, and departs.
Upon returning to Fortuneteller Baba's place, Master Roshi assigns him his new training, leave and travel vast outside world on foot for new challenges and experiences. Goku would have to toughen up out there in the real world on his own this time, without the Flying Nimbus. Goku was reluctant carry on his training alone but had no other choice. Along the way, he meets a girl named Chao and saves a village from Terror and Plague, two mean criminals who have a gourd that traps people inside. He also finds himself supporting to Chin Star School by helping his new friend Chin to defeat the formidable opponent Sky Dragon in a massive battle.
Goku's travels land him in a tiny village terrorized by dozens of demons. The town's princess has been kidnapped by these frightening creatures, and the king wants Goku's help. Goku dares to go down into the underworld to retrieve the girl and battle Shula, who is responsible for taking her there. He successfully saves the princess from the demon tyrant Shula, and closes the door that lets demons exit into the living world. Later, he encounters Tien and Chiaotzu, who are running a scam, pretending to defeat the monster InoShikaCho for lots of money. Goku eventually foils their scam and once again heads out on his own.
Three years later, he meets Fortuneteller Baba once again. After the encounter, it's about time for the sign-ups for the tournament to start. Goku saves a green fox fellow named Konkichi. Because he misses his plane while helping Konkichi, who befriends him and refers to him as his "brother," Goku ends up swimming the whole way across the world to get to the tournament.
Meeting Tien and the 22nd martial arts tournament
Goku later fights in the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament a year later. At this time Goku is now 15 years old (though he still looks like a young boy). Goku's next major opponent is Tien, a warrior trained by Master Roshi's nemesis, Master Shen the Crane Hermit. Like Yamcha and Puar before them, Tien along with his best friend Chiaotzu, eventually side with Goku.
In the Preliminaries Goku is set up against a previous Champion from the 20th World Tournament King Chappa. Goku defeats him and then defeats Panpoot a famous movie star in the quarterfinals. In the Semi finals Goku is set up against his best friend Krillin and defeats him in a fierce battle in witch Krillin use clever tactics to combat Goku’s more advanced fighting skills.
The fight between Tien and Goku starts off at a very fast tempo. Tien takes an early advantage the younger fighter , nailing Goku with a Dodon Ray, seeing through his After Image Technique technique, hammering him with the Machine Gun Tsuki (a sequence of rapid punches), and then knocking down him with the Haikyuken (a technique where Tien treats his opponent like a volleyball). Tien’s attacks seem to start there tole on Goku however Goku declares that he will now fight Tien with all his strength. He starts off with a quick series of attacks, nearly finishing with a Kamehameha, but changes his mind at the last second, knowing that Tien would simply deflect it.
The fight continues with a short After Image Technique duel, each fighter using the technique to dodge an attack and try one themselves, with Goku getting the final kick in. Tien then attempts his Solar Flare again, but is floored by Goku, who was wearing shades after learning of the technique from Tien's previous match. As Goku goes to return the shades to Roshi, he is hit from a behind by a recovered Tien, smashing him into the wall.
When the combatants next charge at each other, Goku becomes frozen in place, allowing Tien to land a punch. This happens twice more, and Tien pummels Goku in the process, but, realizing that he is winning too easily, discovers that Chiaotzu is using his powers to paralye Goku. Tien telepathically tells Chiaotzu to stop interfering in his match, as he wants to beat Goku in a fair fight. This angers Master Shen, who then orders Tien to kill Goku. Tien defiantly states he won't kill Goku, both because he doesn't want to be disqualified, and that he no longer wants to be an assassin like Mercenary Tao. The now infuriated Master Shen orders Chiaotzu to kill both Tien and Goku. When Chiaotzu refuses, Master Shen then threatens to kill him instead. Master Roshi puts an end to this by blasting Master Shen out of the stadium with a Kamahameha, allowing Tien and Goku to concentrate on their match.
Tien then attempts one of his "aces-up-sleeve" techniques, and uses his Four Witches Technique ability to grow an extra set of arms. Goku counters by using a pseudo-eight arms technique he learned from his battle with Panput, which Tien is hard pressed to defend against.
Tien soon loses the additional arms and decides to use his final attack, the Tri-beam. He warns Goku to dodge the blast, forcing him out of the arena, as there is no way to survive being hit by it. Tien then floats high in the air and uses the attack, destroying the entire arena. Goku did dodge the blast though, leaping incredibly high in the air. Tien is convinced he'll win at this point, as he can levitate and Goku can't. Goku readies one final Kamehameha and, at the last moment, turns around, using the attack to send him rocketing into Tien. Both fighters fall to the ground, Goku slightly ahead. He tries to use another, smaller Kamehameha wave to slow himself down, but is hit by a truck and lands first. Tien lands an seconds later, thus winning the tournament.
After the match, Yamcha and the others return from the hospital and meet up with Goku and Tien. Because Goku's outfit is in tatters, Krillin gives Goku his uniform (as he has changed back into the suit he originally arrived in). Tien offers Goku half of the prize money, as he recognizes that it was mere luck that he won, but Goku declines as money has no interest to him; Tien then insists on at least paying for dinner. At this point, Goku realizes that he has nearly left his Power Pole (a magical extending staff) and his Dragon Ball behind and Krillin volunteers to retrieve them for him. Tien next apologizes to Yamcha for using such excessive force during their fight and Yamcha grants his forgiveness. Roshi then offers to let Tien stay at the Kame House, which Launch encourages him to do, but Tien declines, stating that he can not follow the teachings of another, even if he has betrayed his master.
The group goes to celebrate the Turtle House's stellar tournament performance at a restaurant, but uncharacteristically, Goku has little appetite. Krillin has been gone too long. Hit with a vision of dread concerning his friend, Goku races from the restaurant, leaving behind his shocked teammates and friends. When he reaches the tournament grounds, Krillin is already dead, his monstrous killer has already left, and both the Dragon Ball and the announcer's list of competitors have been stolen by the creature.
The evil King Piccolo
Right after the end of the 22nd World Martial Arts Tournament, King Piccolo, the evil half of Kami, appears, Krillin is killed by Tambourine, one of his sons. Goku gets angry and chases after him through the skies. A tired Goku is defeated by him, and after he meets a samurai named Yajirobe who has a Dragon Ball. After sensing Yajirobe kill Cymbal, another one of Piccolo's sons, Piccolo orders Tambourine to find his killer. Upon seeing Tambourine again, Goku finally destroys him. Soon after King Piccolo appears and swiftly defeats Goku with his Masenko attack, causing Goku's heart to stop for a short time. After two failed attempts consisting of attempting to seal King Piccolo back up with the Evil Containment Wave by Master Roshi, and a change of the wish to King Piccolo's destruction by Chiaotzu, King Piccolo wishes for his youth to be restored, giving him the power he once had.
They both head to Korin Tower for Goku to recover. Once Goku is healed he heads out on a quest to find the Ultra Divine Water, a sacred liquid that unleashes the drinker's hidden powers if they have any, if not they simply die. Goku drinks the water and survives, then heads off to King Furry's castle where he finds King Piccolo's newest son Drum beating up Tien. Goku steps in and defeats Drum and challenges King Piccolo to a battle. Towards the end of the fight King Piccolo uses Tien as a hostage, attempting to force Goku to surrender, Goku nearly resumes the fight despite the fact Tien will die, until King Piccolo tells him he had destroyed Shenron.
Goku ends up with a broken arm and two broken legs. As King Piccolo takes to the skies for his final attack, Goku, full of rage over the fact that Krillin and Master Roshi are gone forever, fully launches himself at King Piccolo, punching a hole through his chest and killing him. Moments before King Piccolo's death however, he manages to spit out an egg far off in the distance that contains his final son and reincarnation, Piccolo.
Becoming the World champion and Piccolo
After Goku defeats King Piccolo Goku goes off to Korin Tower where Korin tells him of Kami's Lookout. At Kami's Lookout Goku overcame Mr. Popo's challenge of speed and Kami the Guardian of Earth brought back the Dragon Balls back and revived Krillin, Chiaotzu and Master Roshi. Kami has Goku train under him and Mr. Popo for the 23rd World Martial Arts Tournament to defeat Piccolo Jr. who wants to get revenge on Goku for killing his father.
After three years, Goku, now eighteen years old, meets up with his friends at the Tournament. Though they do not recognize him at first, Goku removes the turban that he is currently wearing to reveal his full face but it is only after he notices Bulma wearing lipstick and asks her if she is bleeding that they are convinced that it's him. Soon afterwards, Krillin, Tien, Yamcha, and Chiaotzu arrive, and Krillin emotionally thanks Goku for what he did for him. When the group notices that Goku's tail is missing, Goku mentions that Kami had it permanently removed in order to restore the moon. Goku then briefly meets Piccolo Jr. and an angry young woman who is angered that Goku does not recognize her. Goku and Tien unanimously decide not to tell the others that Piccolo's spawn is at the tournament.
In the preliminaries rounds, Goku is put up against King Chappa again who wants to get back at him but fails again. In the Quarterfinals Goku was put up against a unknown female fighter who seems to know who Goku is and knows the same fighting style that Master Roshi teaches. After Goku defeats her she then reveals herself to be Chi-Chi whom Goku promised to marry. Before leaving the ring, Goku asks for her hand in marriage. In the Semi Finals Goku is put up against Tien to settle the score from the last tournament.
Goku and Tien both start the the way their last fight, charging into each other with a flurry of blows. After a few scuffles, and a doubly reflected ki bolt, Tien is left a bit out of breath while Goku remains unfazed.
Tien then demonstrates his true speed and seems to dominate the fight after that though, landing several blows and evading all of Goku's attacks. Goku asks Tien if he can remove some of his clothing and Tien is shocked to discover that they're heavily weighted and was part of his training for the tournament, all together, the weight of Goku's boots, wristbands, and undershirt equal a weight of one hundred kilograms. With the burden removed Goku's speed is now considerably greater than Tien's, and he is able to take Tien's belt without Tien noticing.
Realizing that he's outclassed, Tien uses his secret weapon: the ability to divide himself into four separate, thinking bodies. Each of Tien's new bodies quickly heads to an arena corner and fires a blast at Goku, who has nowhere to dodge except up; once he's in the air though, each Tien hits Goku with a blast from his third eye, bringing him crashing to the area floor.
Goku gets back up and announces to Tien that there are two flaws with the technique and that he'll soon win. Tien disbelieves him and attempts to do the same attack pattern as before; he's interrupted though when Goku uses the solar flare technique after leaping in the air, blinding all of the Tien's. As he's recovering Goku explains that Tien's eyes are too good, and that since he relies on them so much, he's almost helpless when blinded. Goku then proceeds to quickly dispatch each Tien with one hit, demonstrating the second weakness; splitting into four bodies reduced each of them to 1/4 of the original Tien's strength and speed.
After the other semi-final Piccolo beat Kami to set up the fight Piccolo has been waiting for. He now has the chance to get his revenge on Goku.
Piccolo squares off against Goku, after some initial attacks, Piccolo attempts to destroy the arena, and all the spectators, with a powerful attack; Goku manages to deflect it though. When Piccolo attempts to do it again, Goku counters with his Kamehameha and reflects the beam back at Piccolo, scathing him and destroying some of his clothes, including his turban. Without his turban, the crowd recognizes him as King Piccolo and flees in terror; this works to Goku's advantage, as he no longer has to worry about any innocent bystanders getting hurt and is able to fight care free and at full power.
Piccolo next uses his Giant Form to grow roughly four times his size. After being thrown and taunted by Goku, Piccolo Jr. grows even further, to the size of a large building; this again works to Goku's advantage however, as he is able to enter Piccolo’s mouth and then escape with the bottle where Kami is stored. Realizing that his great size is not helping him fight Goku, Piccolo returns to his normal size.
Piccolo hits Goku with his Antenna Beam (electricity from his antennas) and leaves Goku stunned. As he moves in for a follow-up blow, he is blocked by Kami who enters the fight. Goku protests this and after making Kami agree to let him fight on his own, allows Piccolo a free hit.
Piccolo next attempts another strong attack called Chasing Bullet technique, a blast which follows his opponent; Goku once again turns the tables on him and manages to get the beam to hit Piccolo instead by dashing right behind him.
The blast seriously damages one of Piccolo’s arms and he is forced to rip it off and grow a new one. In a fit of rage Piccolo next uses an attack which generates a massive explosion emanating from him. Though Piccolo puts a great deal of his energy into the attack, it has little effect on Goku. Goku uses Piccolo now exhausted state to land a series of attacks on him, finishing with a powerful Kamehameha.
Thinking he had Piccolo defeated, Goku lets down his guard down while the announcer begins the countdown. As the counter approaches 10, signifying a defeat, Piccolo suddenly springs up catches Goku by surprise with a beam from his mouth, blasting a hole through Goku's shoulder. Thus weakened, Piccolo is able to systematically cripple Goku, costing him the use of all of his limbs, including his right arm, the one that the original Piccolo made the critical mistake of leaving Goku. To finish him off, Piccolo leaps in the air and fires a powerful ki attack at him, leaving no trace of Goku.
Piccolo, though heavily battered by the battle, turns to Goku's terrified friends, gloating. His victory is short-lived though, as, unknown to all, Goku had mastered the art of flight and dodged the attack. Goku then smashed his inert body into Piccolo, knocking him out of the ring. Goku is crowned the best fighter in the world.
With Piccolo beaten, Yajirobe approaches and gives Goku a Senzu Bean, bringing him back to perfect condition immediately. Goku begins to dance about, celebrating his victory, until he notices Kami about to finish off the defeated Piccolo. He quickly places himself between them, knowing that if Piccolo dies, Kami and the Dragon Balls will vanish as well.
Kami then laments that Piccolo's existence is his fault, and for that he is no longer worthy of life, let alone to be the Earth's God. Master Roshi then speaks stating that it was because of the Dragon Balls, and their setting Goku off on his grand adventure, that the world is now in peace, logic Kami accepts.
After Kami restores Goku's tattered uniform, Goku asks Yajirobe for a second Senzu Bean. To everyone's surprise, he gives the Senzu Bean to Piccolo, instantly putting the him back on his feet. Goku tells everyone that he doesn't want to risk Kami's health by leaving Piccolo on the verge of death, he also admits that he doesn't want to lose his rival. Piccolo shows complete contempt for Goku's mercy, thinking him soft and, just before leaving, giving his word that he will return someday to shatter Goku and take over the world, Goku just shrugs this off and welcomes Piccolo’s next challenge.
Kami, seeing Goku's strength and pity, judges him worthy and offers Goku to take his place as Gaurdian of the Earth. Goku protests this though, stating that such a position was not the adventure he was looking for. At this point Chiaotzu arrives on the scene after leaving the hospital. With one final rejection of Kami's offer, Goku summons his flying cloud Flying Nimbus, grabs Chi-Chi, and flies off, shouting, "Sorry, Kami, it just doesn't get any better than this!"
Dragonball Z
Saiyan Saga and meeting Goku's brother
5 years after his victory at the tournament and now at the age of 23 Goku has become a powerful fighter and is attending a reunion at the Kame House, Goku is reunited with his old master, Master Roshi, and his friends Krillin and Bulma, who all haven't seen each other in five years. Goku surprises everyone by bringing along his four-year old son, Gohan. Unfortunately, the reunion is interrupted by the arrival of a mysterious being, who identifies himself as a Saiyan by the name of Raditz. Raditz identifies Goku as Kakarot and berates him for not completing his mission. Raditz revels that Goku is from the same Saiyan race as he is, and that he and Goku are in fact brothers. Goku and Krillin understandably think that Raditz is nuts, however Roshi reveals that there may be some truth to the Saiyan's words. Master Roshi reveals that Goku's adopted grandfather, Grandpa Gohan, found a strange space capsule in the woods containing a baby Goku. As a baby, Goku was violent and ill-tempered, though one day he fell down a ravine and suffered memory lose. Goku is stunned by this and refuses to believe it.
Raditz then goes on to state that Goku's original purpose was to destroy all life on Earth, which he should have done in a matter of years after his arrival. Raditz also reveals that the Saiyans' original home planet, Planet Vegeta, was destroyed by an asteroid some twenty years ago, and that there are only four Saiyans left, including Goku. Finally, Raditz mentions that he needs his brother's help in destroying all life on a distant planet. Goku refuses, which prompts Raditz to notice Gohan, who still retains his Saiyan tail, which leads Raditz to threaten the fate of the child. Goku tries to attack, but is quickly stopped by Raditz, who then kidnaps Gohan, and gives Goku an ultimatum; Raditz will kill Gohan unless Goku kills one hundred humans within the next twenty-four hours. With that, Raditz flies off. Goku is clearly distressed at his situation, and vows to rescue his son; Krillin and Master Roshi offer to help him fight. Before they can depart, however, he is confronted by his nemesis Piccolo. Piccolo encountered Raditz after Raditz had first arrived on Earth, and was terrified by his raw power. Aware that they now have a common enemy, Piccolo suggests that he and Goku join forces to confront Raditz, which Goku hesitatingly agrees to. Bulma offers up her Dragon Radar so that Piccolo and Goku can track the 4-star Dragon Ball in Gohan's hat, thus finding his location.
Raditz arrives at his spaceship and locks the crying Gohan inside. Through the use of his scouter Raditz discovers that two fighters are approaching; as they get closer it is revealed that they are Piccolo and Goku. The duo face-off against Raditz, however they find that there is little they can do against the more powerful Saiyan. Raditz gains the upperhand and firing dual ki blasts out of his hands at Goku and Piccolo. Goku is able to dodge his, however Piccolo loses his arm. Piccolo, unhindered, reveals that he has been holding back a new technique that he designed to kill Goku, however he decides that he'll use it against Raditz. In order to give Piccolo time to charge the attack, Goku distracts Raditz with his Kamehameha. Raditz is astonished that the two fighters can concentrate their power into single attacks, however he manages to neutralize the Kamehameha with ease, and then takes care of Goku with a blast of his own. Fortunately, this was all the time Piccolo needed, and he fires his new attack, the Special Beam Cannon. Despite the power of the blast, however, Raditz side-steps it. Goku takes advantage of the distracted Raditz and grabs his tail, which Goku remembers as being one of his own weaknesses as a child. Raditz is rendered helpless, however he appeals to his brother to let him go if he promises to leave the planet, which Goku does, much to Piccolo's disagreement.
Raditz predictably double-crosses his brother, and pins him down, breaking bones and causing Goku much pain. Gohan hears this and in a fit of rage unleashes his dormant saiyan powers shattering Rabitz’s space craft, Rabitz reads Gohan’s power level at over 1000, Gohan flies straight into Rabitz causing massive damage to Rabitz, Gohan's power level soon drops back to a low level and Raditz realizes that Gohan's power is affected by his emotions. Raditz quickly smacks Gohan aside, but is still physically hurt by his nephews attack. Goku, using what little strength he has left locks Raditz in a full nelson. Raditz is unable to break free, and Goku tells Piccolo to try his attack again. Piccolo does not hesitate knowing that the beam will kill Goku as well, though he knows that Goku's friends will most likely use the Dragon Balls to resurrect him, he is nonetheless satisfied with killing his archenemy. He fires off another Special Beam Cannon, and Raditz, held by Goku, is unable to dodge it again, and the beam goes right through the both Raditz and Goku killing both of them. Raditz curses Piccolo, but commends his brother's spirit.
Piccolo informs Raditz that Goku will be wished back to life using the Dragon Balls. Raditz, with his dying breath, retorts by saying that the scouter on his head acts as a transmitter as and that the other two Saiyans will come to Earth and avenge his death and destroy it. Piccolo then delivers the final blow to Rabitz.
Back on Earth, Krillin, Master Roshi, and Bulma arrive at the scene, and Krillin mourns the death of his friend. Just as Goku dies, however, his body vanishes. Piccolo takes that to mean that the Guardian of Earth, Kami, has plans for Goku in the Other World. Piccolo then surprisingly regenerates his arm, tells the others of the impending arrival of two more powerful Saiyans, and picks up the unconscious Gohan and takes him away.
6 months later Goku is nearing the end of his hundred thousand kilometre run down Snake way where he finds a small planet in orbit just above him, the planet is about 100 feet in diameter, on the planet Goku struggles to move due to the increased gravity. On the planet Goku meets King Kia, who after explaining that his planet’s gravity is ten times greater than Earth’s, he also informs him that in 6 months two more Saiyans will attack Earth and try to destroy it and that Goku is the only one strong enough to defeat them but he needs training and new techniques which King Kia will teach him but first he must catch King Kia’s monkey friend Bubbles.
Goku thinks this is an easy task but due the increased gravity it is very difficult but he eventually catches him [after 2 months] King Kia then begins to teach Goku his two signature attacks the Kaio-ken and the Spirit bomb [arguably the most powerful in the universe] the Kaio-Ken is where the user is able to increase there power by what kind of kaio-Ken they use for example if the user uses Kaio-Ken X2 multiplies the users power level by 2, the Spirit bomb is where the user gathers energy from other being [if they let the energy go with consent] and form a blue ball that can destroy a planet with ease and can only be used by a pure of heart person and can only be deflected by a good person.
Goku manages to master the Kion-Ken technique managing to get up to Kaio-Ken X3 but struggles to learn the Spirit bomb due to the massive power of the attack but finally masters the lethal attack in a couple of days. With only a few days until the Saiyans arrive on Earth so using King Kia’s telepathic abilities to contact Master Roshi, who along with the help other z-fighters has gathered the Dragon ball’s, to revive him which they do. Now Goku that was alive again he could return to the land of the living but to get back to defend Earth he has to run back down the hundred thousand kilometre Snake way in only 2 weeks until the Saiyans come to Earth Goku sets of down Snake way at full speed.
Namek Saga
Piccolo was dead and without him, the Earth Dragon Balls were useless, so Gohan, Kuririn, and Bulma traveled to Namek while Goku came behind them in training.
Unfortunately, Vegeta also came to Namek for the Dragon Balls to achieve his goal of eternal life. Vegeta's former master Freeza had also arrived on this planet seeking eternal life, having learned of the Dragon Balls from Vegeta's scouter. By the time Goku arrived, Vegeta had allied with Gohan and Kuririn and the three had taken a beating from Recoome, a member of Freeza's elite Ginyu Special Force. Goku saved the three and defeated Recoome with one elbow. The Saiyan then fought Jeice and Burter and mystified Vegeta that he might be a potential candidate for the legendary Super Saiyan status. Goku defeated Burter with two quick strikes and Jeice would flee and arrive with Captain Ginyu, the leader of the Special Force. Goku fought Ginyu and revealed to him his Kaio-Ken and Ginyu fancied Goku's body, using his body change ability to switch for it. Goku managed to get his body back and threw a frog into Ginyu's change beam when he tried to steal Vegeta's body, defeating him.
Goku would then recuperate in the rejuvenation chamber before fighting against Freeza, whom he could not defeat even with the Kaio-Ken technique. He tried using the Genki Dama, but Freeza survived and killed Kuririn before Goku's eyes. Goku was filled with angst and hatred and he had become what had been considered a legend; a Super Saiyan.
Cell Saga
After the defeat of Freeza, it was a wildly held view that Goku was killed on Namek. But one day, the Z-Fighters and Vegeta felt Freeza's power level approaching Earth. As the fighters approached, a cybernetic Freeza and his father King Cold touched down, planning to destroy Earth. everyone was worried that the planet was doomed since Goku wasn't around to be the savior. But a mysterious young man came to confront them first. Both Freeza and Cold were clearly outmatched by the youth, who had revealed himself as a Super Sayian, and are defeated in a matter of seconds.
The young man then goes to the Z-Fighters and tells them that Goku would land on Earth soon. Goku did land, having escaped Namek via a Ginyu Force space pod and with a new technique learned from Planet Yardrat: Instant Transmission. The youth is Trunks , and says that two Androids will be here in three years. He gives Goku heart medicine, claiming that he died of a heart virus in another time line and this would save his life. They all go their separate ways and start their training. After three years, Goku and the Z-Fighters face off against the Androids and Goku would fight against Android 19. He then caught the heart virus and would then be saved by Vegeta who had become a Super Saiyan himself.
After healing, Goku would make ready to train with his son Gohan in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber for quite a while. While waiting for Vegeta and Trunks to finish, an evil bio-android from the future named Cell was wreaking havoc across Earth to absorb the Android units 17 and 18. The Hyperbolic Time Chamber was where Goku and Gohan learned how to maintain their Super Saiyan limits, and where Gohan learned how to manipulate his Saiyan strength. This was also how Goku and Gohan became able to hold themselves in these forms for elongated periods of time.
After Goku and Gohan got out of their training time in the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, they decided that since they still had much time left, they would just stay and relax until the tournament that the evil Cell had set up began. At the Cell Games, Goku would fight first and would then give the fight to Cell, knowing that he cannot win.
Goku had known since Gohan was a child that his strength comes from his anger. He was intending to wear down Cell enough so that Gohan could finish him off. Gohan had indeed become so powerful that he reached Super Saiyan 2 and broke down Cell, even punching Android 18 out of him. Cell then started to self destruct so Goku quickly used the instant transmission to teleport the Android and himself to Kaio-Sama's planet. He sacrifices himself so that Earth is safe, but Cell was able to regenerate and regain his Perfect Form.
Cell would then make ready to annihilate the entire world and it was up to Gohan to defeat him. Gohan, with the help of his father's coaching and Vegeta's interference, would win a Kamehameha power struggle with Cell and destroy the vile Android. When the Z-Fighters gathered the Dragon Balls to wish everyone back to life, Goku tells them that he thinks the world would be safer if he stayed dead.
Majin Buu Saga
Low and behold, it is not until Goku gets a day to walk among the living that Babidi comes and resurrects Majin Buu. earlier that day Goku had met all of his best friends, like Krillin and Vegeta, along with his sons Gohan and Goten, who he'd never met before. During the World Martial Arts Tournament, Two fighters with an M insignia in their forehead stole some of Gohan's power and fled. Goku and the others followed them to Babidi's ship. After the fighters gave Babidi the power they had stolen they were immediately killed. Goku, Vegeta, and the Supreme Kai went into Babidi's ship where they faced a few trials of combat. Goku fought a creature that came from the darkest corner of the universe. The creature had the ability to absorb energy. Once Goku realized this, he powered up and let the demon absorb his power until he exploded. Vegeta was secretly trying to get Babidi to see that he was evil so he would increase his power. Babidi noticed and did so.
Babidi transported them to the World Martial Arts Tournament where Vegeta proved he was truly evil by blowing up part of the arena in an attempt to gode Goku into a fight. Goku asked Babidi to transport them to a place away from people to fight Vegeta. He transported them to the mountains. Goku and Vegeta went blow for blow until they realized that Majin Buu had been released. Goku tried to persuade Vegeta to partner up so they could defeat Majin Buu. Vegeta agreed but when Goku went to grab some sensu beans, Vegeta knocked him out. Vegeta gave his life trying to defeat Majin Buu, but afterwards when Goku awoke he had to go back to the afterlife because his 24 hours were up. Before he left, he showed Goten and Trunks how to do the fusion technique and showed them the Super Saiyan 3 transformation.
Gohan would later be trained by the Supreme Kai and would remove an ancient sword of power, the Z-Sword, that released an elder Kai. The elder Kai would later exchange his life for Goku's afterlife so Goku could go to earth and find some one to use the Supreme Kai's fusing earrings to permanently bond with. Goku fused with Vegeta after his resurrection, becoming Vegito. In the end Goku used his Spirit Bomb to defeat Majin Buu's original form (Kid Buu). Before Kid Buu's defeat, Goku asked that Kid Buu be resurrected later in life so Goku would have the chance to fight him again.
Years later Buu was resurrected as a boy named Uub, and at a martial arts tournament Goku tried antagonizing Uub into releasing his hidden power. Goku would soon stop the fight and take Uub off to train.
GT Series
A couple of years after his battle with Uub, Goku his seen training with Uub within Dende's Lookout. Unknown to the both of them, Pilaf and his foolish henchmen sneak in and they attempt to steal the Black Star Dragonballs. The Black-Star Dragonballs were created when Kami and Piccolo were split. The Dragonballs that Kami made split along with them since they were linked to him. They found the dragonballs and summoned the Shenron of those dragonballs. Goku, Uub, Dende, and Mr. Popo stumbled onto them and Pilaf stupidly wished that Goku was a kid again so he could defeat him. Shenron granted the wish and Goku was transformed into a child again. The dragonballs split apart and instead of going around the planet, they went around the universe. Mr. Popo informs everyone that the blackstar dragonballs must be recovered within a year or the planet Earth will be destroyed. So he, Trunks, and his granddaughter Pan travel across the universe to find the dragonballs. During the series, Goku comes across old enemies and new as well as some old and new friends. Thanks to one of the enemies, Kabitokia and Elder Kia were able to pull Goku's tail out of his body so he could have it again. This caused him to become a Giant Ape during the battle with Baby. With the help of Pan's tear, Goku regained his reasoning and unlocked the ultimate Saiyan transformation, Super Saiyan 4. He later uses it excessively during his latter battles with Super 17 and the evil dragons.
Powers
When a Saiyan is wounded in battle and they heal, their power level increases. This is also true if a Saiyan is revived from death.
Goku has trained in the martial arts since he was a young boy. He was first trained by his Grandpa Gohan. He then trained under Master Roshi. After his death, he trained with King Kai on his planet in Other World.
Techniques
Kamehameha - A focused blast of energy, one of Goku's most powerful techniques learned from Master Roshi.
Spirit Bomb - A massive energy attack that can only harm evil creatures. It is formed by summoning the energy of all life around him. He was taught this technique by King Kai.
Kaio-Ken - A power increasing technique that can be used to amplify Goku's strength and speed. This technique was no longer needed after transforming into a Super Saiyan.
Transformations
Goku is also the only Saiyan in the entire series to achieve all known Saiyan transformations. In Dragon Ball he was able to transform into a giant ape-like monster called an Oozaru, though after his Saiyan tail was permanently removed by Kami, he no longer could achieve this form.
In Dragon Ball Z, Goku is the first Saiyan to achieve the fabled Super Saiyan state in over a millennium. He ascended to Super Saiyan after being overcome with rage by the murder of Krillin by the hand of Freeza.
During the Cell saga, Goku learned to become an ascended Super Saiyan. This increased the speed and power of a Super Saiyan, but Goku knew this was not the transformation he had been looking to achieve.
Goku achieved the Super Saiyan 2 transformation in Other World.
Other Anime Transformations
In Dragon Ball GT, he achieves the final Saiyan transformation called Super Saiyan 4. A Super Saiyan 4 is the most ultimate form of a Saiyan, but it only can be achieved by a pure blooded Saiyans such as Son Goku or Vegeta. To achieve Super Saiyan 4 for pure blooded Saiyans, they must first achieve a Super Saiyan and then transform into a golden oozaru. Once the saiyan has gained self-conscience, he/she then can now transform into a Super Saiyan 4. The aspects of a Super Saiyan 4 is that it gives more power (obviously) and other things that powering up gives. Unlike the other Super Saiyan forms, a Super Saiyan 4 does not have that draw back of reverting back to normal form when a Saiyan is either too worn out or knocked unconscious. The only draw back of a Super Saiyan 4 is the tail, the series has never shown what happens to Son Goku ot Vegeta when their tails get cut off, but if an oozaru gets revert back to normal, then a Super Saiyan should do the same.
