Great Ride
The entire lead up to this film (teasers, trailers, snap shots, etc.) left me with high expectations. Let me state that I have never been a big (or even small) Godzilla fan. I may have found him "cool", but never really got into him (though I have seen some of the older movies). As the release date neared I was concerned about some of the reviews I had heard/read. I must say, the number one complaint, that Godzilla is barely in it, is somewhat legitimate. I definitely would have loved to see him in action a little more (not a lot more though), but I did find that they way he was used just led to my enjoyment and excitement levels being that much greater when you did get a clear look at him (tones of teasing!). There is always a fine line with these films. Too much or too little of the monsters. If you go to far to one side people will say "the monster was barely in it, lame!" and if you go to far to the other side they say "terrible story! weak acting! typical monster movie". I really feel like they struck the right chord with this film. It had an interesting story that, from what I do know of him, respects the character. Good acting, no oscar performances but no bad performances either. No overly campy one liners, so well written dialogue. Great pacing and suspense and an excellent score. And of course the most important element of any Godzilla movie, Big-G looks and sounds badass!
Definitely go out and see this one!
