They Had The Best Intentions
This is an interesting issue and the first time we really see the kids in serious action. Of course beings kids they make simple conclusions from their view of the world and in a well meaning but misguided attempt to avenge the humiliations visited upon their parents by Shakurankai. The problem is due to the Armistice and the kids not being told the truth about the world they believe what they see in the comic books really happened. So they charge off into the night to avenge their parents.
In the course of teaching Shakurankai a lesson things go too far for a number of reasons. First Shakurankai is no pushover, clearly holding back throughot the fight. Kid Nefarious perhaps realizing he is out of his league pushes himself to reach a new level of power drawing a magical sword out of nowhere increasing his powers, though all the kids are stretched to their limits. In the end Martian Jones fires his gun at Shakurankai but it was damaged and a powerful beam slashed out at Shakurankai and blasted a whole in his chest.
Not too many sub plots here though the continued references to the Armistice and the Skull Brothers clearly don't want their friends to know the truth either. They are working on a plan to free their mother and they will probably manipulate their classmates into helping. Seeing Shakurankai was a suite for a small alien was interesting, and the Creature at the end I think is the Dragon Emperor that Abraxas references in his trial in front of The Congress of Villians in issue #3.
The art of Armand Villavert Jr both on the cover and inside thebook continues to be very good. His character look the part and the action sequences are well done. Mark Andrew Smith over th first 6 issue has begun to create an interesting world and has laid a train of bread crumbs with hints of what is to come.
This series has gotten out of the gate well and I hope will continue for some time.
Overall I would rait this issue a 4.5 out of 5.
