I'd rather read comics than study any day!
Gladstone's School for World Conquerers #4
Ok so this is my first review for this series and I have to say, I enjoyed it very much. But I'll get into why later in this review. So the basis of this issue is the Skull Brothers, Ghost Girl, Kid Nefarious, and Martian Jones go over Mummy Girl's house to study for mystic arts. Kid Nefarious of course doesn't want to study, so he stumbles upon Mummy Girl's comic book collection, not know what they are or who's in them. Mummy Girl reveals that their parents were the stars and main villains for those comics and of course Kid Nefarious gets addicted! So as they leave Mummy Girl kisses Kid Nefarious, which means that they have a romance now and Kid Nefarious isn't afraid to admit that. Although being a friend and villain, Martian Jones views that as black mail! The issue ends with Kid Nefarious reading the comics mummy girl lent him until he fell asleep.
The GOOD!
This comic was fun and very easy to read. I really like each character and their own personality. There wasn't much story to this issue but it was still a light and easy read, which I enjoyed. I don't know how serious this series is supposed to be? From what I understand it seems funny and almost kid friendly. My favorite part to this issue was when Mummy girl explained that comics should be taken much more seriously as a literary form. She also says how influential they can be, and I love her point of view on comics because what she's saying is true. I remember the reason I started reading comics at a young age was to see some cool fight scenes, but when I read them now I read them for the story, art, and character development.
Art: I do like the art a lot, but the thing is...is this comic supposed to be serious? The art gives off a light hearted and cartoony feel to it and I like that. The cover I didn't like because Martian Jones was not the main focus of this issue and I don't like misleading covers.
The BAD!
Once again I don't know the tone of this series. What I also feel is that these kids are not villain material. I actually feel like they're training to be heroes. I can't picture these characters as villains because they don't seem bad enough. I want them to be heroes though but I don't think that's what this comic wants.
The VERDICT!
I had fun with this issue and it definitely makes me want to go and pick up the previous issues! I say pick it up! 4 out of 5!
