Sooner or later - - even if they get denied the chance a couple times - - every actor’s going to play a superhero eventually. Just as Armie Hammer’s near-portrayal of Batman seemingly delayed an inevitable casting as the Lone Ranger, so too has Adrianne Palicki gotten another shot at superheroics after the rejection of the WONDER WOMAN TV show. Empire’s reported that she’ll be playing stealth operative Lady Jaye in G.I. JOE -- COBRA STRIKES.

You know, I was actually wondering where Lady Jaye was in the first one, anyway. She felt like a bigger part of the old cartoon than Cover Girl, Ripcord and Heavy Duty were, for sure. This new JOE movie’s almost getting a total make-over for its line-up, as only three characters from the first flick are coming back (Duke, Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow.) If you haven’t been keeping up with these quieter casting announcements, the team this time will include Dwayne Johnson as Roadblock (!), DJ Cotrona as Flint, Stephen Martines as Cross-Country, Elodie Yung as Jinx and the RZA as the Blind Master who presumably taught her and Snake Eyes.

I think I speak for every one in the Comic Vine community by voicing hope that Shipwreck will show up , too.

This could be better than the first one but that's not saying much. I'm glad to see Flint and Lady Jaye but The Rock as Roadblock? Wasn't D.J. Cotrona supposed to be in that  Justice League movie from a few years ago that was shelved?

Better for Palicki in the long run.  It won't be a very good movie, but it's better than being hounded by malcontent WW fans.  She'll make it and move on.

I hope they keep her in something reminiscent of her old green outfit.   She had one of the more realistic outfits out of the GI ladies.

The RZA as the blind master, what the heck? He looks like he is the same age as Snake Eyes and Storm Shadow. What did he master by the time he was 3?

About time casting news for this movie started. I was hoping they would have already started filming. Unfortunately Joseph Gordon-Levitt wont be returning as The Commander. I'm glad they decide to get rid of some of the other characters though. I like the addition of Dwayne Johnson. I don't know much about Adrienne Palicki so I don't know whether or not this is a positive or negative seeing as the Wonder Woman show didn't get picked up.

Explosions happen in space all the time, only it's not as glamorous as Hollywood thinks it should be, which is why Michael Bay should direct space after NASA loses its creative rights. An ongoing fire wouldn't be possible in space, but so long as it has enough energy a spaceship exploding is possible.

I wasn't saying they happened or not, just that people don't really care about things like "sinking ice" in action\war\comic book movies as long as their entertained, witch is way their making a squeal that hopefully well be better.

My only problem with the movie was the fact that there were actual casualties. No one parachuted out of their tanks before they blew up, which was a serious letdown.

The first movie was fun yet flawed. I was hoping the sequel could get things rolling in the right direction. Lacking Destro and Cobra Commander, as well as Scarlett leaves me shaking my head in WTF-ness.

So...the only confirmed returning villain is the one that was quite clearly killed in the original, eh? Yes, yes, I know...ninja and all that. So does this mean no Cobra Commander, no Destro, no Baroness, and no Zartan, or are they merely recasting them? Much as I hate seeing actors change between films, I don't know if bringing in some B-list baddie like Cesspool or the Headman is something I could get behind.

@Shadow_Thief: Their gonna recast Cobra Commander, Destro and the Baroness, but Zartan is still in the movie but as the U.S. President and they already reveled how Storm Shadow lived in the tie-in comic to the movie.

let me get this straight: you went to see an action movie about mech suits, world destroying nanobots, homing arrows, localized sonic cannons that can crumple steel but not shatter eardrums, jet packs, Hardlight holograms, and men who can change the bone structure of their faces... and the uncharacteristic properties of the ice are on your list of issues?  who cares? Are you really over-thinking your "based off a toy franchise" movies? you must have walked out of transformers screaming of scientific impossibilities.

    here:

The explosion caused the ice to fall, much like if you pushed down on an icecube in the water. And the camera just didnt stick around long enough to see it pop back up.

    or:

The ice around the base was created BY Cobra from a water-BASED liquid that kept the base and its technology/inhabitants from freezing. This substance is slightly heavier than water.

it was Gi Joe, not an L.Ron Hubbard novel. cut it some slack.

Pretty much my point of view on this.  Most of the new cast sounds pretty good to me.  The Rock is one of very few true action stars around under the age of 50 (or so it seems anyway) so getting him is great.
Should be a good movie to turn your brain off at the door and munch a giant tub of popcorn to.

@NightFang:  I'm so sick of people trying to excuse terrible movies by pretending their opinions are the only ones that matter.

    Nobody cared...

I cared.  Everyone I've ever talked to about this movie cared.  Just because you're entertained by explosions and gunfire and swords and loud noises and keys being jingled in your face, doesn't mean everyone else is.  I'm not saying that everything in the movie has to be perfectly realistic, but this was such an unnecessary thing.  An ice sheet was floating happily above the base, but if you break it up, the pieces sink to the ocean floor...  It reminds my of that Family Guy scene where the Amish cart and horse fell off a cliff and the cart exploded like a classic car crash and then the horse exploded for no reason.  Played for laughs, it can be funny.  But there wasn't the slightest hint of irony or self-awareness in any of the film.

I usually give a wide berth for films to defy my expectations.  Transformers have super-advanced technology, so I'll give the film the benefit of the doubt (though the most of the plot, dialogue, and acting can't really be excused).  Most of the rest of what you said, I'm inclined to give a pass.  If I were as peevish as you make me sound, I couldn't have enjoyed Inception because it seems implausible to share dreams through a wrist band, but I'm not like the caricature you paint.  If there's the slightest possibility that a technology could exist, I really don't make a fuss. But we're not talking about technology.  This is the mundane behavior of basic matter.  It's like if in the end of Armageddon the asteroid bounced off the atmosphere like a billiard ball.  The base was underwater.  There was an ice sheet happily floating on the water's surface.  Blowing up the ice caused chunks of it to sink, in the movie.  Ice doesn't sink.  Period.  The only explanation is that the screenwriter was too stupid to know this, or expects his viewers to be.

I had a lot of problems with this movie (more on the massive plot holes and horrible acting).  That's why I said I couldn't think of a single redeeming feature of it.  The ice was just symbolic of the complete disregard the people who made it had for even a minimum standard of good storytelling.

The first GI Joe film was awful and unwatchable. I have no doubt the sequel will be just as bad. I will just re-watch GI Joe Resolute instead. Thank you very much.

@dorsk188: im just saying in a fantastical world, that sort of things should not be a crippling feature in your eyes. It happens. Comics, books, and movies have done things like that hundreds of times. But its not that big a deal because in a fantastical world things like that can be explained away (ie those two examples i came up with that would be perfectly plausible in that world).  If you brought that up to the directors at a panel, they would explain it into cannon on the spot because thats such a small thing.
i remember something happpned in marvel that the fanboys were up in arms about, so they wrote a singe page where Richards and Stark explained it to each other, then broke the 4th wall to give the readers a "you happy now?" look.
Thats the same type of pointless nothing to be upset about.
and i meant that a Hubbard novel is an example of something that has no reason to have scientific inconsistencies. But seriously, Gi Joe was a 40 year old toy line based off of oa 60 year old comic. Unless Hollywood explicitly tells you they are going for realism... you should not be expecting realism.

I mean it was TERRIBLE, don't get me wrong, but it was a lot of fun.

The Rise of Cobra was good for at home flick so let's hope the second movie is where it's better than the original film.

@Grim: I don't want to belabor the point, but there is a difference between typical fantastical plot elements that are required to tell a story (which is totally acceptable to me) and tossing reality out the window.  If a movie character was shown as being very cowardly for the first half of the movie, then they suddenly, without a reason, start acting like He-Man, Rambo, and the Tasmanian Devil rolled into one, you would rightfully say: "That's bad characterization.  That character is inconsistent, and it's bad storytelling."  In this case, the behavior of the ice suddenly changed mid-scene for essentially no reason except the story called for it.  It's bad storytelling.  If you were watching a meteor disaster movie and space rocks were ping-ponging back and forth between the planets like a pinball, it would detract from the film.  That's all I'm saying about the ice.  It was a stupid idea that made no sense and if I had been enjoying the film up to that point, it would have severely pulled me out of it.  If you watch the scene, the ice certainly isn't being "blown downward", nor is there any indication it's anything but bits of ice.  If memory serves, there was a throw-away line about metal tunnels in the ice, but it wouldn't even begin to explain the behavior of the special effects on screen.

There were dozens of other parts of the movie that grated on me, whether it was Scarlet's dialogue that was supposed to make her sound smart, but was actually quite dumb, or the whole farce at CERN.  The ice example was just a really obvious, and (I thought) uncontroversial instance of how bad the movie was.  Judging by the comments here and the RT score, there seems to be wide agreement the movie wasn't very good (but it might be enjoyable depending on the viewer's frame of mind or expectations).  That's fine by me.  Different strokes for different folks.  I think NightFang's post about "nitpicking" has touched a real nerve with me, because if we can't agree on the laws of physics, then what can we agree on?  At this point, I think we've spent entirely too much time on the topic, and I think we should pretty much leave it here...

...Or I could start another argument about how they created artificial gravity on the space station in Armageddon.  Just thinking about it makes my blood boil...

Supposedly they might get Bruce Willis in as Joseph Colton, the original "GI Joe". Here's hoping the enemy in this movie is the Iron Grenadiers, or even a retooled version of the Coil.
