In this sequel/reboot, Zartan impersonates the president of the United States and orders an attack on the Joes. During this attack, all of the Joes apparently die except for Roadblock, Lady Jaye, Flint, Snake-eyes and Jinx. Now as fugitives on the run from the government, the surviving Joes enlist the help of General Colton to clear their names and defeat the evil corporation that is Cobra.

IDW released a prequel comic to the movie leading up to the film's release.

The movie was originally set to release in June of 2012 but was pushed back to March 29 2013 in favor to add 3D.
