'Ghostbusters' Cast Revealed
I was actually kind of hoping we wouldn't get McCarthy, but I really like the looks of this cast overall.
Now they just have to do justice to perhaps the greatest sci-fi comedy of all time. No biggie...
I'm completely open to adding women to the Ghostbusters team, but what was the point in making it an all female cast? Just from a marketing stand point. It's going to be a tough sell to a young male audience with figures or Halloween costumes?
Without Harold Ramis adding to this script and story and Bill Murray refusing to appear in it, I don't consider this a GHOSTBUSTERS movie. I was more interested in the concept of the older Ghostbusters passing on the torch to a new generation.
My thoughts exactly. I wouldn't have minded a reboot that involved a mixed team of both male and female talents. Also don't know most of the cast, and not sure how overall this will work. Would have loved a passing the torch movie as well, similar to what Episode VII is trying to do.
I guess re-doing an old movie is easier and safer financially than taking a gamble on something original.
@arturocalakayvee: The studio said it's not a reboot so far we don't really know .They might just say that to avoid criticisms before the plot is revealed .
@holylouie: Is that so? Thanks!
What they look like tells me nothing, honestly. They just have to be funny. I hope they're funny in this.
Ghostbusters was funny, but it's "world" was never a big deal. It was a comedy movie with one sequel. It's not exactly Lord of the Rings. It's barely a series, much less a continuity. It's the perfect movie to be rebooted, in other words.
@loki2u: You're right young males aren't the only ones that go trick 'r treating. But girls aren't the only ones that go out either. So by having a Ghostbuster's team of men and women you wouldn't alienate anyone and could more easily market to kids of both genders.
Fair enough. Not to sure on the plot details, but if any of the original busters make an appearance, which it sounds like they will, there's the male influence on the cast.
Personally, I like the idea of an all-female cast if looking at it from a marketing perspective and sticking with the halloween theme mentioned. The majority of superhero movies are male influenced so it's nice to see a change and maybe empower some more of the young girls out there.
Not that gender really needs to have an influence when it comes to a Halloween costume. I could care less if my daughter wanted to dress up as iron man or if my son wanted to dress up as a princess from frozen. But I guess that's a whole different discussion.
I'm just really disappointed all around with this...I have nothing against these ladies and I'm sure that they can do some really funny work but I really don't want this....I really don't want these ladies as the Ghostbusters since I feel like just casting them tells a lot about what kind of movie this is going to be and I don't feel like that movie is going to encompass the feeling of the first film (I didn't like the second movie)... a Ghostbusters movie where 2 of the original cast, 1 of whom has said that they don't want anything to do with this film, the other being deceased and one of the writers of the first two films not there does a lot to make me not want this film as well
Not interested in what I'm seeing.

Well I am. And I can't wait to see this when it comes out.

@rick_grayson: I would actually be surprised if they don't make this joke or some form of it in the film. I mean that's her one thing right? She is a fuller-figured woman and so the audience must be bashed on the head with how hilarious she is due to this. Am I the only one who doesn't get her comedy?

What I don't understand is that this seems to be the general consensus, yet paradoxically she is also still landing big jobs and receiving positive criticisms.
I couldn't be less enthused by this film, which they're clearly making for the sake of making and gender swapping for the sake of gender swapping and yet will almost certainly make enough money to run a beloved franchise into the ground with a sequel.
I've been trawling through different news reports this morning and all I can see Paul Feig actually saying is that he wants to make this movie because "Ha! Women Ghostbusters am I right!?" and "current technology is better than old technology". Nowhere does he even hint to an original idea worth the risk of trashing a fan favourite franchise.
Don't get me wrong, there's no problem with having a female in the lineup, or even a full female lineup if it benefits the script, but that shouldn't be the sole motivation.
@rick_grayson: Ic couldn't agree with you both more. She is just not funny and this film is just not needed.
@foxxfireart: have you considered that the intended audience in this case may not be men but women
They should have taken a couple of more famous actresses than these in order for the movie to gain a wider releases, popularity and earn more money. Something even better would be a mix cast instead of an all female cast. Something even better would be the original cast. Something even better would be to just have a different male cast for the movie.something even better would be to not make this movie at all. That's all folks!
Lets be honest here - this film is essentially just vying for people who liked bridesmaids and wants also to cash in on people who like Ghostbusters. It could have been just a generic movie with ghosts and an all female cast and that's perfectly fine, but why the hell is it ghostbusters? Other than just the complete lack of any new ideas or creativity in Hollywood.

More than welcome.

So much truth in this post. Seriously, my friends and I all dressed as Ghostbusters for Halloween back in the 80's (with me playing as Ernie Hudson's Winston Zeddemore since I was the only Black guy in our clique at the time:). Nothing about this mockery appeals to me, especially since I'm old enough to remember the awesomeness of the original(s).
F**k this project!!!!!
@comicace3: Because the original male cast had such a drama heavy background in 1984?
I'm not too sure about this so far. It could go either way, depending on the balance they shoot for with the script. They need to walk a line between making the new characters their own and a living up to the expectations of fans who grew up watching the originals.
Can McCarthy play more subtle comedy? I've avoided her movies so far based on the trailers.
I for one think Melissa McCarthy will make a great Slimer
The internet. You won it.
I knew before I even clicked that McCarthy would be in this. I agree that she's kind of a hack. Basically she's an inconsiderate idiot in every movie. Gets stale. Perhaps she will do something different.
I am ambivalent at best about this at the moment, but if the graphics look sweet I will likely see it on the big screen.
