Busting... a medically aproved activity for making one feel good
I first saw Ghostbusters when I was about five years old, from then on I have loved it with every fibre of my being. The movie stars comedy legends Bill Murry and Dan Aykroyd as well as seasoned proffesionals Harold Ramis and Rick Moranis, the movie also stars "that chick from Alien" Sigourney Weaver and the token black guy Ernie Hudson. As hard as it is to describe the awesomeness of this movie, I will try my darndest to do so:
Characters:
-
Dr Peter Venkman
-Bill Murray brings the usual A-game you would expect from an SNL legend. The one-liners and his interactions with the other characters are beautiful.
-
Ray Stantz
-Dan Aykroyd brings both the science and the myth of ghosts and ghost busting in his roll as both actor and writer. Ray's lovable, nieve nature truely makes him the heart of the Ghostbusters.
-
Egon Spengler
-Harold Ramis brings the straight comedy and the technology as well as being a writer. While I don't think the character was as funny as Venkman or Ray, I do think that the character is necessary for the story.
-
Winston Zeddemore
-Ernie Hudson brings affirmative action, there is honestly no reason I can think of for him to be in this movie, he wasn't even in the movie poster. Actor good - character pointless.
- Dana Barret -
Sigourney Weaver brings the realism and the damsel in distress-edness, Dana is not all that funny a character, but for what she was designed to be, she is practically perfect... and he turns into a dog.
-
Luis Tully
-Rick Moranis brings another great roll to the movie, I don't think Luis is a necessary character, but he does expand on Dana's character, so I would call that a good thing.
- Walter Peck -
William Atherton brings the unlikeable @$$hole to the table and does it well, the character is only really useful as some for Venkman to annoy, but that's good enough for me.
-
Gozer the Gozarian
-Slavitza Jovan brings that modelling swagger, that can be found in pretty much every female model there is. All in all the character was vital, but the actress wasn't... they didn't even use her voice.
Writing:
-
Story
-To combine an extensive knowledge of paranormal mythology, science fiction and science fact with legendary comic genii like Aykroyd, Ramis and Murry you get something beautiful.
-
Script
-The monologues were awesome, the one liners were perfectly timed and brilliantly executed, anything that you didn't like would soon be replaced by something you loved.
-
Props
-The Ecto-1 may not be fast or furious, but she is a beautiful car and it has a siren, which is a plus. The proton packs were highly detailed and anything that can melt a persons' face off is always welcomed.
-
Special Effects
-Considering it was 1984, the computer graphics were very well made and the practical work was well devised and well executed.
Overall:
- Verdict -
While the the movie in totality is awesome, it is not perfect, I didn't like Winston because he didn't really belong in the movie, that's all I can think of... other than that I think it is probably one of the best movies that I have seen, though I don't think it has ever been given a 5 star rating, where lesser movies have.
In my opinion everyone should see this movie at least once... and then see the sequel which is also awesome!
