General Thunderbolt Ross

General Ross works in the air force where he is in charge of a gamma bomb project by Bruce Banner. Ross's daughter, Betty, grows to love Bruce no matter what but still, her father isn't interested with her flirting with a scientist whom he has a dislike for. As Dr. Banner is transformed into the Hulk, after saving Rick Jones from the explosion of the gamma bomb test, General Ross spent many years trying to capture the Green Goliath, despite commiting treason allying himself with the Hulk's enemies, The Leader, MODOK, and Emil Blonsky AKA the Abomination.

During a battle between Bruce and a deadly mutant Ross sacrifices himself and gives his blessing to Betty and Bruce. His body is stolen by the Leader and resurected as a mindless drone to replace the Redeemer. He eventually returns to normal and goes back to the Air Force. He makes peace with Banner and everything starts to go well until Betty dies of gamma poisoning and he begins to hunt the Hulk again. After he finds out that it was actually the Abomination that killed her he let the Hulk temporarily escape.

In the Mangaverse (Earth-2301) General Thunderbolt Ross is in charge of the Space Command Defence Network, set up on the surface of the Moon. When first seen, the Defence Network is preparing to fire on the Galactus virus, which is moving towards Earth. General Ross was in charge of implementing the deployment of the Richards Barrier, and after he received the time codes and tactical information from Reed Richards, he fired on Galactus. With the Richards Barrier having no effect on Galactus, the virus rained meteor’s down onto the Moon Base, destroying it and killing General Ross.
