First off, I want to start by saying I like the massive amounts of violence done in books like Conan The Barbarian or The Goon... but that's not to say that it would've at all been noticeable without a great stylization and intriguing storyline.

With The Boys I have to ask a simple question, why the hell are the Vought American so fucking retarded? We're to believe they're cooperate businessman, the elite of the world, the true masterminds behind superheros and even politics themselves, and a force to be reckoned with (how red river forces demolished the G-men). But as shown many times, even the man in charge of keeping homelander and the rest of the seven on a leash blows wads of cash unnecessarily at problems like Black Noir not understanding how to fly a real plane. He acquired actual high class technology when he could've went the simpler route of storing Black Noir in virtual reality simulators to see if it panned out. Even in WW2 they said the first douchebags they can find who were willing to take the superhero drug without actually training them and testing if their highly expensive projects would work. Are we to assume they have that much control over the government already that these failures can go highly unnoticed or overlooked? Then why the hell have Vic The Veep in the first place if you can cover up your tracks endlessly?

Because it's Garth Ennis. Dude is a waste of talent that thinks blood, guts, and a man ejaculation equal an intriguing story.

Harsh, but THE BOYS is definitely not Ennis's strongest writing. It's got all the outrageousness and vulgarity of PREACHER but none of the heart.

To see the real measure of Ennis's talent check out his 'War Stories' series. They're poignant, sometimes heartbreaking single issue stories.

Also his PUNISHER BORN is just pure brilliance.

True. He seems to just go through the motions. started strong but you can tell he was writin for the sake of long wind around Hughie going to Scotland again.
