    A charming master thief and skilled martial artist who became a member of the X-Men, Gambit possesses the mutant ability to change potential energy in inanimate objects into kinetic energy which causes them to explode. His signature move is throwing kinetically-charged playing cards at his opponents.

    Gambit is a character that was created in 1990 by Chris Claremont and Jim Lee. He made is official debut in The Uncanny X-Men #266 - Gambit – Out of the Frying Pan. Throughout the 1990s Gambit grew to become very popular as well as becoming famous for his relationship with fellow X-Men member, Rogue. He eventually became popular enough to star in his own ongoing solo series as well as appearing in the X-Men. The following is a guide to the key moments in Gambit's history including his appearances in X-Men comics as well as solos.

    See Gambit and Rogue start to become close as they're interrupted by the presence of Gambit's ex-wife, Belladonna. Gambit and the X-Men will have to return to New Orleans to settle problems with Gambit's Thieves Guild and Belladonna's Guild of Assassins, but they will soon be interrupted by the X-Men's old enemies, The Brood, and Ghost Rider.     Gambit gets his own series with this four issue mini. When Gambit's brother, Henri LeBeau, pays the X-Men a visit, Remy will have to return to New Orleans to revisit his family. You will see many of Gambit's family introduced here and learn more about the Thieves and Assassins guilds, as well as Gambit's home turf, New Orleans. Gambit will discover that his wife is still alive and be sent on a mission to try and save her. Here you will also witness more development in the relationship between Gambit and Rogue, as she plays a part in this series as well. Written by Howard Mackie with art by Lee Weeks.

    In this issue of X-Men, you will see a flashback story, as Sabretooth tells Rogue about when he first met Gambit. You will see a young, seventeen year old, Gambit come into contact with Sabretooth while saving a young woman.     X-Men #45 - The Enemy of My Enemy...

    When the world was about to end during the end of the 'Legion's Quest' storyline, Rogue kissed Gambit and absorbed some tragic memories from his past. Gambit went into a three week coma and Rogue ran from her problems too Seattle. In this issue, Gambit follows Rogue and Confronts her, hoping to Savage the relationship with the woman he loves.     This story is a direct follow up to X-Men #45, as well as a follow up to Gambit's previous actions with Sabretooth. During a fight between Wolverine and Sabretooth, Logan stabbed Sabretooth in the brain with his claws. This caused Sabretooth to lose most of his memory. He was currently staying with the X-Men during this time, and in this issue, he is confronted by Gambit. Written by Scott Lobdell with art by Joe Madureira.

    Another mini series starring Gambit, where this time he teams with his fellow X-Man, Wolverine.

    While missing Rogue, Gambit decides to pay a visit to another one of his Lady friends in London, a detective, Alexandria Davis. Unfortunately, he finds out that she had died earlier while on the streets posing as a prostitute thanks to a modern day 'Jack the Ripper' whom had killed five ladies thus far. While following the trails of the murders, it leads Gambit to Wolverine.

    During this time, Wolverine has been regressing to a more feral state, and seems like somewhat more of a animal than a man. Because of this, Gambit will not know whether or not he can trust Logan. He will have to discover whether or not Wolverine did kill those women while simultaneously looking for who the killer might be if it was not Wolverine. Written by Jeph Loeb with art by Tim Sale.

    The Trial of Gambit

    X-Men: The Trial of Gambit

    During this time, a lot has changed with the X-Men. Currently a younger version of Magneto, whom goes by the name Joseph, is staying with the X-Men. Professor Charles Xavier is gone due to the events of Onslaught. The Avengers and Fantastic Four are no longer in the Marvel Universe. It is a much different world in the Marvel Universe, but Remy LeBeau has made it this far without his secret shame being revealed.

    This starts off with a sci-fi story. The Gladiator comes to earth and transports Gambit and the X-Men to the Shi'ar Homeworld where they are forced to battle impossible odds against old X-Men foes known as the Phalanx. It doesn't start out as a Gambit focused story, but this does have some essential character development between Gambit and Rogue, as well as some development with Gambit, Joseph, and Rogue. However, after they return to Earth, Gambit finds that there are bounty hunters after him. When captured the X-Men will have to come face to face with the Nanny once more. Gambit will have to make a difficult decision and live up to his past. See the secrets to the mysterious Cajun mutant known Gambit here.     At last, Gambit receives his own ongoing solo series with this title. Here you will see Gambit tie up loose ends and reveal the truth of how he survived the land of Antarctica when abandoned there in 'Trial of Gambit'. You will see Gambit doing what he does best; being a thief. Remy LeBeau will have to work for a group that he is indebted to, known as the New Son. In this series you will also see the continued development of Gambit's relationship with Rogue and some development with his fellow X-Men member, Storm. You will see the truths behind Gambit's powers, and Gambit will eventually debut a new costume. He will battle the likes of Bullseye, X-Cutioner, Sabretooth, Riptide, Scalphunter, Ozymandias, Mystique, and his dreaded enemy, Mr. Sinister. You will see the supporting cast from Gambit's other solo outing in New Orleans return as well. Gambit will also be taking a bigger role in the Marvel extended universe here, teaming up with other Marvel characters such as Daredevil, Deadpool, Blade, and some of his fellow X-Men.     The 2000s

    Gambit's popularity started to wane during the 2000s, but he still remained a very popular character. While his best stories are definitely in the 90s, readers who find that decade to be too dated can give these a try as a starting point.

    In 2001 Gambit will join Storm's X-Men team and become a X-Man again. Here, he will be along side Rogue once again, but Remy will also receive a lot of character development with his long time friend Ororo Monroe; Storm. Gambit will fight along side Bishop and Sage as well. Written by Chris Claremont with art by Salvador Larroca.

    In this series, Gambit returns with the X-Men to New York. Here, you will see the limits to Gambit's faithfulness to Rogue stretched like never before, as a promiscuous new student know as Foxx actively tries to seduce him. Gambit will have to overcome that, and overcome more when her true identity is revealed. As this series progresses, you will see a Apocalypse story here, where Gambit becomes a Horseman of Apocalypse. Like with The Trial of Gambit, this event is seen by many fans as character assassination.
