Last week Taylor Kitsch talked to Rotten Tomatoes at Cannes about Gambit and his future. Kitsch will be appearing in "The Bang Bang Club" with Ryan Phillippe and Malin Akerman. He's expressed excitement over playing Gambit but was unaware that a sequel to Wolverine Origins was already mentioned.
"Man, good on Hugh for doing that to his body again," he laughed as we told him about the film. "I hadn't heard that was going to happen! You have my brain going now about what I'd love to do with Gambit!"
Hmmm...that doesn't sound too good for Kitsch, the fact that he didn't know it was going to happen. It's great that he's excited about playing Gambit. He should be. We know that Gambit is a cool character that hasn't really been properly used lately. It seems that Kitsch is already thinking about the things he could do with the role.
I want to go deep into Gambit. He has so many more colours to explore. I want to go dark with that cat. There are so many things I want people to see of him and he really is his own deal.
The problem with this is, there hasn't been any word of a Gambit movie. It also appears that Wolverine's next adventure will be in Japan. I'm not sure if there'd be any room or reason for Gambit to be there. We've already seen the announcement that there will be a Deadpool movie. With Kitsch not knowing about the sequel to Wolverine, Gambit's (immediate) future doesn't look too great.
Do you think Gambit could carry his own movie? We do have the Thieves Guild that could be explored or maybe his time with Storm. Also, since he helped Wolverine towards the end of the movie, do you think there's any room for Gambit in the Wolverine sequel?
