Call me shallow, but I always liked him because he's hot, his costumes don't suck, & he has long hair (sometimes).
Gambit
Character » Gambit appears in 4687 issues.
A charming master thief and skilled martial artist who became a member of the X-Men, Gambit possesses the mutant ability to change potential energy in inanimate objects into kinetic energy which causes them to explode. His signature move is throwing kinetically-charged playing cards at his opponents.
Gambit Respect Thread
Gambit is a great character, I've always like him, not just because he's charming and always looks hot. He has had the power to charge people just by looking at them and he chose to depower himself with the help of Dr Sinister. He can also charge people by touching them, which he also choses not to do. Instead he uses his agility, dexterity and skill with his bo staff. I respect him for that, there are few characters in the marvel universe would do the same :)
ALLLL HAIL GAMBIT!!!
My favorite X-Men or former member or where ever he he is now. I wish he was lil younger though.....
I have heritage in Louisiana!!
I LOVES me some Gambit!!! I actually just watched X-Men Origins: Wolverine tonight & despite what many people told me.... Gambit wasn't thaaaaaat bad. Don't get me wrong, there was Plenty of room for improvement but he was only in that movie for the sake of adding another character anyway so it didn't really matter what the hell he said or did. Although I was bummed that he didn't say "Cherie" once!!!
What the Hell Taylor Kitsch!?
Hi there and gotta say i love Gambit. Been a long time lurker here so i decide to finally make a account and post here. Right now just wanna say how much i like Gambit and hoping to see more of him in and outside of the X-books. Also i'm thinking of setting up a Amalgam Contest dealing with Gambit. Any ideals
2 years with no activity? So sad but hey Gambit is by far the best character in comics! He doesn't get the credit he deserves.
Can we get some more feats here? I love some fanboying (or fangirling) but I like these threads to have applicable feats.
im working on a better one here

@darkchild: Thank you, I'm sure Gambler would be really happy with this thread <3
I respect Gambit even if the editors at Marvel do not.
Sad but true, the X-Men '92 comic writer (yeah, right) Chris Sims was asked
Cyclops and Gambit aren't the only '90s X-Men that fans are asking about. Neko wants to know how you will write the X-Men's Ragin' Cajun, Gambit.
Looking forward to this book the most. Will Gambit be the mysterious guy he should be? And how much of a wild card type role do you have planned for Gambit?
Sims: Gambit will be a scumbag.
"Everyone can relax. Gambit... will be a scumbag." Now that I've filled my "X-Men" Paraphrase Quota, we can move on to a question from FlawedCoil82 about the characters' iconic looks.
... Marvel just keeps letting these hack douchebags crap all over their characters... that issue where Lorna talks about Rogue having any common sense... HA! That's something she's never had.
@lsrotj Thanks for the quote. Sucks that the marvel comic editors hate Gambit. It probably is in their writer interviewing process. What do you think about Gambit?
Writer: I love him!
Editors: Okay. We'll give you a call.
Writer: I hate him. He's a scumbag.
Editors: You're hired!
@sincereagape: Most writers really liked Gambit., which is why he got his very own solo series that lasted for nearly a decade. It wasn't a sell-out like Wolverine, but it was still successful. Some of the editors didn't like him though, especially Chris Sims. He just wouldn't shut up about Gambit. Everytime he would make an X-Men post, he HAD to always bring Gambit into it. On his review of the show, he's constantly bashing him calling him a "scumbag" which got really annoying very quickly. He didn't seem to like the show that much either. I think he's a stupid excuse for an editor. Claremont had good amount of respect for Gambit, although he originally wanted him to be the villain, which unfortunately, he kind of was in Evolution. I much prefer him as a hero.
Axel said they have plans for Gambit, but was he talking about X-Men 92? Maybe 616 Gambit will be one of the mutant casualties.
@sunsetgold: His two most recent solo series were TERRIBLE. Gambit was losing to C-rated villains such as Nighthrasher's younger brother and getting beat by Jolie a new female character.
The marvel/x-editors have done nothing but sink the character since the early part of the 2000s. I can give you a bunch of examples.
1. AvX - Gambit vs Captain America. Nuff said. I don't mind Gambit losing, but it was the way he lost Cap is on the radio the entire time with Iron Man, until the end when he punks Gambit with one punch.
2. Golgatha - The crappy story with Foxx and Mystique calling him a loser.
3. House of M - Ms. Marvel capturing him.
4. X-men vs Dracula - Cylcops :Here Gambit hold this :Blops head in his hand:
5. His power ratings on the 616 Marvel Wiki Site. Everything is a 2, except for fighting ability.
6. He didn't do anything signficant in All New X-Factor.
--I am in a comic store right now, and the Gambit Classic TPB is 25.00 and the Gambit series TPB are 20.00 a piece. They even jack up the prices for his books so ppl won't can't/won't buy them.
@sincereagape: Well that really sucks. Gambit used to be a really respected and popular character. That's really pushing it. Mystique calling Gambit a loser is not surprising though, since she didn't want Rogue to be with him, kind of hypocritical since Mystique herself screwed up many times.
Gambit's recent solos were terrible yes. But Gambit 2012 was actually a decent read. The author himself James Asmus, claimed that Gambit was one of his favourite characters and wanted to give him the credit he really needed since Gambit's solo in 2005 was abysmal. Mike Carey said that he found it unfair that Gambit's reputation had got lower and was unused for a lot of major stories, and I completely agree with him. Despite Gambit's bad phases, he's still a very complex character nonetheless and has had a really dark and tragic background and started off from the wrong side of the law but that all changed when he joined the X-Men. I think what some people don't like is that he frequently changes sides instead of just sticking with the X-Men. He sort of gallops off on his own, like Wolverine, except Wolverine always comes back to where he's needed whilst Gambit couldn't decide. I think he's just being mislead a lot of the time.
In the right hands, he's a really interesting and fleshed out character. Chris Claremont and Fabian Nicieza definitely gave him the best credit. I don't know if this is entirely true or not, but I read somewhere that even Stan Lee himself said that Gambit was one of the characters he liked the most, at the time he was first introduced. I know a lot has changed then but also some points of dismissing a character are kind of immature and ludicrous.like hating their costume means they're a worthless character. Gambit's red armour (it IS red. It may look pink, but it's definitely red. It's even been purple on some occassions) isn't bad, (I like his steel cap boots) and I don't even like Wolverine's blue spandex and even Cyclops's looks a bit out of place. Doesn't mean they're bad characters. That's another pet peeve of mine. An un-stylish costume means a worthless character. It's who the characters are themselves is what makes them likeable or unlikeable not what they wear.
I hope the old Gambit would return. The one that defeated villains and thrashed them about. He's the Gambit everyone likes. I reckon it's because they've made Gambit a really wimpy character, kind of like Rogue in the films.
@sincereagape: Anyway I thought this was meant to be a respect thread, not a bashing thread?
