If Gambit is in a new movie...who should play him?

#2 Posted by Methos (40103 posts) - - Show Bio

Well he's in the Wolverine: Origins movie, and is going to be played by Taylor Kitsch

I'm not really a Gambit fan though, so i couldn't give my opinion on that, Gambler might be the best one to talk to about casting...

Welcome to the vine :D

He seems like a good choice. Josh Holloway is a bit to manly to play Gambit IMO.

i wonder how well he can do a cajun accent

#6 Posted by Dormath (2398 posts) - - Show Bio

he is in the new movie and an actor has already been selected.

#7 Posted by Methos (40103 posts) - - Show Bio

lol... as long as he leers at women and continues to piss everyone off, i'd say they've got the character done :D

I think you have to be good at over-acting if you should play Gambit.

No, you have to have the Cajun accent. It's one of those things that makes Gambit Gambit.

Good point, Josh Holloway would be awesome, but i don't know much about Gambit, if he was a humour kind of Guy, judging by Holloway from Lost he would be the perfect person to play Him.

I remember in i think it was X-Men 2, when Storm and Professor X are walking and wheeling through a Corridor there's a Kid flying two Paper Aeroplanes in the background, i always thought that might of been a glimpse of Gambit if they ever included in Him a Movie when he grew up, but like i said i don't know much about Gambit, that's including his Origin.

Taylor Kitsch /does/ have the look, but I don't know anything about him.

And I swear, if they change Gambit's origin, I'm gonna be ticked. They screwed up Pryo in the x-men movies, and I can fogive them for that (doesn't mean it doesn't irritate me though) but not Gambit! You never mess with the Cajun.

#15 Posted by Sparrow (18 posts) - - Show Bio

They messed up a lot of things in the movies!Like the fact that Wolverine's claws can't even come through is knuckles.

But I'll be happy if they get Gambit right.

#16 Posted by fesak (7054 posts) - - Show Bio

Be certain they will change his origin since they did so with every other character.

Well I could be wrong but I think it should definitly be an unknown, and I'm not sure if Taylor Kitsch. Oh course we'll see when Wolverine comes out.

#18 Posted by Midnight Shadow (13 posts) - - Show Bio

Well, the movies are only loosely based on the comics. Really, the only thing transferred from comic to screen is the idea of mutants and the general ideas of the different characters. I mean, the director himself said that he didn't want it to be too much like the comics.

I still think he has to be Cajun through and through.

He's definately got the look. Though, that's pretty much all we can know till the movie comes out.

#20 Posted by Silenttiger43 (182 posts) - - Show Bio

He's just not Gambit if he's not Cajun

#21 Posted by Sparrow (18 posts) - - Show Bio

Gambit has to have a Cajun way about him. He's what makes him...him.

It's great if you get the look right, but the actor HAS to have an accent or it messes it all up.

As long as he dies fast.... anybody can play him.

#25 Posted by Silenttiger43 (182 posts) - - Show Bio

O_o what? You want Gambit to die?

#26 Posted by batpool (414 posts) - - Show Bio

It makes sense. If he dies really quickly, then nobody can say "Oh, that dude suuuucked as Gambit!".

But, all in all, I hope this guy does a really good job with Gambit. Through reading the Gambit comics, I have a new respect for the character that I didn't have before. He is slowly making his way up to my top 10.

I-I guess that makes sense... but I think a part of me would die inside if Gambit kicked the bucket too quickly x.x I'd be so much happier with someone playing him well. Of course there's always going to be things to nit-pick I'm sure, but if he's decent I'll be happy enough.

#28 Posted by Sparrow (18 posts) - - Show Bio

No! Gambit can't die! He has to steal Rogue from Iceman, and win her affections and they have to live happily ever after...well at least that's how I think it should be.

There is no way that they will kill Gambit. It makes no sense. There is talk that they want to make Wolverine more then one movie, and since they got a "name"  actor to play gambit and the rumor is that they payed him a handsome sum of money. so even the legistics in the movie making aspect of it leads on to belive that Gambit will not die so he can come back if they are going to make another movie.

He's French as well

They should really re-cast Gambit and the others, give him black and red eyes, a Cajun accent and...... ah hell, just reboot the X-Men films.

#36 Posted by MyraMyraMyra (296 posts) - - Show Bio

I think that Taylor Kitsch made an okay Gambit - though horribly costumed, he looked the part, and did a decent job with the little screen time he had - but I sorely missed the Cajun accent. I think the Cajun identity is such an essential part of the character that he just doesn't seem right without the proper accent. So, Kitsch was okay, but far from great.

I'd very much like the entire Wolverine: Origins movie to be retconned (= completely forgotten and never spoken of again) in future X-Men movie continuity. It was a terrible, terrible movie, and such a waste of so many good characters like Gambit, who really didn't have a proper part to play in the story in the first place. I also disliked how he was inexplicably portrayed being much older than the principal cast in the previous movies for no good reason. I certainly wouldn't mind seeing some whole different actor portraying him in the future, preferably with the red-and-black eyes and the Cajun accent.

P.S.
I dream of the day I see this guy Kevin Zegers as Gambit. He definitely looks the part (= is freakishly handsome, drives most women and some men crazy), and he's a very good actor. Check him out in Transamerica, for example.

 Just add stubble!

That the dude from the Bleu de Chanel commercial?
'Be unexpected!'
That commercial makes no sense, yet the music is really cool.
