I know he eats planets, every story i read though that's all he does.

he's not really a bad guy but just wants to live, like all life, but for what purpose?

so basically the question is, do you know a comic that explains this?

if he is so high and mighty god statues you think he would be doing something more productive, not just trying to survive like petty unintelligent creatures fight to do.

-Thank you! love and kissis and everything!!!!!!!

It's a deep seeded need. He does what he must. It is his sole purpose. It is what he devotes all of his energy and time to doing, because if he doesn't, he starves. Galactus is a cosmic balance, without him the universe becomes in danger of being destroyed. He claims that one day, he will return much more to the universe than he has taken.

He does spend some time creating his technology, but he only has the time because he has heralds finding worlds for him.

Show some respect. Galactus was the first hypoglycemic comic character.

Wasn't it stated that if he doesn't feed, some other force arrives that can destroy the universe?

Abraxas. But Galactus has been dead a few times and Abraxas only came once, so I don't know if he is the only reason Galactus must exist.

Also, a long time ago.  Galactus is the division between Entity and Death.  Without him these two beings would disrupt the universe causing another big bang.

The purpose of Galactus is hinted at in the "Trial of Reed Richards" story in FF #262.
It's also been speculated that he exists to keep the Celestial population in check by consuming worlds that harbor "Celestial embryos."

@ARMIV: LOL!  Sometimes simple is best...

So, why exactly does he have to look like a dork?  Seriously, why can't he sport an Armani once in a while?  If he's going to eat a planet, then wear dinner attire dab nab it!!!

Although, Reed Richards did say (in FF #3 I think) that there is an underlying science explaining why Galactus looks like a dork...  Still can't help but wonder why he can't put on jeans and a t-shirt once in a while....
