Does galactus have to consume planets energy in order to survive, or does it just make him hungry but he'll live on even if he doesn't satisfy himself. How come SS doesn't get hungry?

Are you under the belief that it is the Power Cosmic that makes Galactus hungry?

Galactus must consume the biospheric energies of planets to survive. The Power Cosmic does not cause his hunger, it is merely his role in the universe. Galactus just happens to be the source of the Power Cosmic. Thus, the Silver Surfer does not need to feed his Power Cosmic, nor does Galactus.

So galactus eating planets is just him eating, and SS doesn't have to eat.

@Edamame: There have been a few times he fed on something besides a planets energy. I think other types of energy will help in a pinch, like when he wanted to consume Epoch. The Surfer mentioned being able to detect suitable energies for Galactus. In the end, Gravity used his power to feed him. So yes, he has fed on other types of energy before, but not consistently.

@Edamame: If the plot wanted it to, sure.  ;)

Galactus knows that the Phoenix Force is the being responsible for all life and if he did consume it, he would end all life in the universe. Galactus is supposed to be a balance between life and death and doing that would disturb the balance he is supposed to keep.

@ComicMan24: Yes. The Old Power should have sustained him for thousands of years according to the Silver Surfer, but Skaar gave him an OD and he became addicted to it instead. He expelled the Old Power in the Microverse and apparently has returned to his normal self.

Could the Uni-force be a form of "power cosmic" ? Is Galactus (and his peers) the only progenitor of the "power cosmic"?
Could the "power cosmic" be related to "cosmic" origins of the F4 and the Phoenix (even in apstract terms)?

@RavenDark: The Uni-Power and the Phoenix Force are both sentient entities, whereas the Power Cosmic is a force of the universe. So far it seems that Galactus is the only source of the Power Cosmic and anyone else who has had it was because it was given by Galactus or taken from someone who possessed it in such a way.  There have been plenty of other forces and powers in the universe compared to the Power Cosmic, such as the Primordial Power of the Elders of the Universe or the  Proemial Gods who possess a similar power from the Crunch, or the end of the universe (among others).

The FF were hit by cosmic rays. In the Heroes Reborn story line, they indeed possessed the Power Cosmic and it could be sensed in them by the Heralds of Galactus. I don't think that has been stated in the 616 universe though.

The Silver Surfer once said that the astral plane was the source of the Power Cosmic, but I have never seen anyone besides Galactus and his Heralds able to wield the power for themselves, unless stolen from a bearer.

@jloneblackheart: Thanks for the reply, I got my cosmic powers and Power Cosmic confused...
The definition of the Power Cosmic, in Annihilation (comicbook), as a power embedded into the aura of a living being using it and not physically into its body, and similarities and bonding with the Uni-Power(Force) in Captain Universe: Silver Surfer  made me think it was an abstract concept of cosmic power instead Power Cosmic.....

    Great explanation
