You may have heard the recent bit about Gail Simone being fired from BATGIRL despite fans digging what she's doing. There wasn't a whole lot of information but the internet was in an uproar when word got out.

It was said that Simone's Death of the Family issues would be her last and Ray Fawkes would be a guest writer until a new writer was announced.

Gail Simone, herself, has announced the new writer on Twitter.

    No Caption Provided

There hasn't been an official announcement or explanation. Perhaps DC listened to the outrage from fans. Maybe it was all a big misunderstanding. Fans of Simone and BATGIRL can now rest easily knowing the book and character are back in her hands.

    Congrats Gail.

Maybe it is a different Batgirl series or DC saw how big of a mistake they made and brought her back

I imagine that they originally planned to get a new writer, but then had to change their mind because of the PR problems that came from firing her. The DC editorial staff isn't exactly well known for thinking things through.

There has to be more to this story. It's too bad that we probably won't get it until after Christmas, if we get it at all.

Stop complaining now. I'm pretty sure the book will not gain readers. A lot of people only wanted to complain and talk crap about DC.

Thank God DC came to their senses. Now I won't have to drop the series. So glad Gail agreed to come back even after the way she was treated. Hers is a voice that needs to be heard within DC comics. Go Gail!

Well, for the record, it wasn't "DC" as an entity that fired her from the book, it was her new editor, after which she said that a lot of DC higher ups had given her their support. My guess, someone higher up than said editor overturned the firing.

I don't know why she was fired...but it seemed like a dick move from DC.

That said, I haven't been enjoying Batgirl, at all since its launch. But I seem to be in the minority, and its nice DC listened to the outrage and gave their fans what they wanted. Gail is a good writer (just didn't like her Batgirl or Birds of Prey) and I'm glad she wasn't just shoved to the side. But...she should really get back on a Secret Six title.

As far as I know, her editor got her fired, but DC brought her back because they didn't think she should have been fired. Or at least that is the talk that is going around.

I think they just want to keep their female writers so they can avoid all of the sexist remarks.

Regardless of what you felt about Gail Simone's run on this new BATGIRL series. She deserved a LOT more respect than to be fired through an emaill

She is one of DC's most prominent women creators. DC should have been much more respectful given their lack of women creators on staff.

This shows one aspect of the New 52 I am not liking where creative teams were thrown together with short development times and then kicked off when the book was not working or editorial differences made it too hard to work on the book. The problem is that editorial and higher still see the new 52 as too new and want to shape it certain ways and this is causing friction with creative teams as well as a lack of quality on certain books. I can't wait when we can just get to the point in which DC can focus more on quality stories.

Yay, good new! Does beg the question why it was done in the first place though. And what will happen to the editor that fired her to begin with. They obviously can't work together, would be a huge, and awkward, strain.

I'm not gonna say that I know everything about this drama and if anyone has anymore detail they can just reply back but...this entire thing is just too freaking wacky.

Gail Simone got fired by email from her new editor.

She went into borderline-vague detail about the whole thing and was pretty classy and calm even though she admit that she caught a little hell.

I've heard fan and fellow DC writer and artist outcry over her crisis.

DC and the new editor has yet to explain their side of this story.

And all of a sudden, things are back to the way they were last month?

    Seriously WTF?

If this was a social experiment to see if the media would pay more attention to a female writer than a male writer over the drama of getting fired in the manner it was explained to us, then the experiment would have been a success in this case.

Of all the forums I've been to over this, I've found out that a writer getting fired over the manner of creative differences with editorial staff is common place at DC and should be considered no big deal. However, it seems as though just because the DC writer, in question, getting fired HAPPENS to be a woman is why this drama is so extremely overblown.

This is dumb, though. There are talented female writers out there, but for some reason they keep latching on to her. Marvel has a fairly good stable of female writers I enjoy, but DC just has her, I think. Is Marjorie Liu doing anything at the moment? :V

Great! Now all of her fans can continue to gush and overrate her! Meanwhile, Batgirl, much like pre- flashpoint Birds of Prey will continue to be subpar with a monthly rotation of mediocre artists and no symmetry or momentum.

Is Gail perfect....no. But her writing skills are fine. The simple fact is that no writer is perfect. People have complaints on Bendis, Johns, Morrison, Slott, Lobdell and I'm sure even Claremont has haters
