Imprisoned by her own people to safeguard a dangerous device called the Universal Amalgamator as only a mutant of incredible power could, she bore her burden with dignity until she was freed. Edit

The Universal Amalgamator is a device that would be used to merge all sentient consciousnesses into one being at the end of time. Gaia imprisoned by her own people to serve as the safeguard that prevents the Amalgamator from being activated by malicious people. She's refused evil before as at some point a great evil threatened to destroy her entire galaxy if she didn't activate the Amalgamator. As a result of her refusal, her home galaxy was wiped out.

M-Plate wanted to use the Universal Amalgamator to become the perfect being (with everything in the universe amalgamated into one consciousness), but Gaia refused him. A talking rat named Dirt Nap sacrified himself to separate M-Plate back into the St. Croix siblings and Generation X fled.

Synch refused to leave Gaia imprisoned, however. Gaia told him that it was no use, that nothing could break the chains, which were made out of some super-strong metallic alloy. Hollow, however, had gone back to help her friend Synch and was able to easily break the chains with her claws and the three of them fled through a secret passageway hidden beneath the rock to which Gaia was chained.

Gaia possess great power, but having been "the responsible one" for thousands of years while chained to a rock, she now wants to rebel, so she often uses her power for selfish purposes. For instance, she used her reality-shaping powers to change her hair color to pink and summon a fancy car.

She's currently travelling the Earth, however she hasn't been seen since she left Generation X. It's unknown whether she was affected by the events of "Decimation" but it's speculated that because she's from another dimension, she may have retained her powers.
