Leap-Frog is defeated by Daredevil

Eugene's father, Vincent Patilio was a small-time inventor who turned to crime after failing to make any profit from his work. As the Leap-Frog, Vincent battled Daredevil multiple times with his Frog Suit which gave him the ability to leap great heights courtesy of electrical coils in his boots.

After constant defeat at the hands of Daredevil, Vincent retired from supervillainy; however, his son Eugene was constantly taunted for his father's failures (he even briefly adopted his uncle's surname, Colorito, in hopes he wouldn't be recognized as the son of Vincent). Eugene eventually decided to take revenge on his bullies and took to wearing one of his father's old Leap-Frog costumes, but Eugene decided instead to try and redeem his father's name by becoming the "heroic" Frog-Man.

Origin

Frog-Man was created by J.M. DeMatteis and Kerry Gammill. The character's first appearance was in Marvel Team-Up #121, which was released in September 1982.

Major Story Arcs

Meeting the Superheroes

Despite his best intentions, Eugene at first couldn't quite control his father's suit and appeared as being more of an annoyance or distraction to other superheroes such as Spider-Man, Human Torch and the Defenders. In his troubled career, he has actually managed to defeat the likes of Speed Demon, White Rabbit, Walrus, Toad, Yellow Claw and Flag-Smasher through sheer luck.

Frog-Man has also petitioned to join the Defenders, the Avengers and to become Spider-Man's sidekick, luckily for them however, Vincent almost always arrives just in time to "save the day" by dragging his son away, disapproving of his choice to become Frog-Man.

Fear Itself

Commander Steve Rogers informs Prodigy of the unknown meteors that have fallen from the heavens and that mass panic is on the horizon. Rogers asks Prodigy to gather heroes on a volunteer basis to help keep the peace and lead a new Initiative where there is no forced conscription or registration. Prodigy agrees to become the leader of the new Initiative and most of the Initiative's former members gathered together in to meet up in Washington DC. Frog-Man would help Firestar and Gravity evacuate some children from a burning building in New Jersey. Later, Crossbones would escape from The Raft after a mystical hammer fell from the sky and crashed into the prison facility. Crossbones was inside the burning building and already killed several officers and innocent civilians. Coming into conflict with Frog-Man and his teammates, Frog-Man leaps towards Crossbones after he shot Gravity but the deadly criminal kicks him in the gut. Frog-Man later recovered from the attack, with Crossbones making his escape.

Spider-Island

Frog-Man teams up with the Avengers

Most recently, Frog-Man teamed up with a team of Avengers to battle Flag-Smasher and ULTIMATUM. As a constant bother to the team, Frog-Man was particularly a nuisance to Ms. Marvel, wishing to establish a partnership with the heroine. As usual, through sheer luck, Frog-Man helped the team win the battle and save the day.

Powers and Abilities

Eugene Patilio posseses no superhuman powers. He wears an upgraded version of his father's Leap-Frog suit, which gives him the ability to leap great distances via electrical spring coils in his boots. The Frog Suit also gives him enhanced strength.

Alternate Realities

Earth-25001 - Marvel Adventures

Eugene appears here as Leap-Frog, who teams up with Stilt-Man and Rocket Racer to commit various crimes for the Tinkerer and finds himself in conflict with Spider-Man.
