Fritzi Ritz is the aunt and legal guardian of Nancy, as well as the previous star of her comic strip series. She first appeared in 1922 as the star of a typical "pretty girl" strip of the time. Nancy was added to her supporting cast in 1933 and by 1938 became the new titular character. Fritzi since remains a member of Nancy's supporting cast.
