The first Saturday of May, every year, is Free Comic Book Day, where participating comic shops, as well as libraries and a few other places, offer free comic books to people who show up. That's pretty dang awesome, isn't it? This year, Free Comic Book Day (FCBD) is happening on Saturday, May 2nd.

In order to encourage fans to participate this year, Mark Hamill (Luke Skywalker, The Joker, The Trickster, our hero growing up) made a video promoting the upcoming event. Check it out.

Here's some facts about FCBD:

· Over 2,300 comic shops are participating across the country and around the world

· Over 5.6 million comics will be given out for free

· There are 50 free titles available to choose from

· Comic shops also host special events for communities to take part in

· FCBD is a great opportunity for those who have never read a comic before to check them out for free

· FCBD is a family-friendly event as there are comics for readers of all ages available for free

· You can see the 50 free comics and find participating comic shop at www.freecomicbookday.com

You can check out a full list of comics in the link above. FCBD is happening on Saturday, May 2nd, and remember, if you do plan on participating, don't go nuts. FCBD is for everyone, so don't get greedy.

The last time my comic shop had a free comic book day they had a tiny shelf of about 4 comics nobody had ever heard of for free, and that was it. So I'll pass, plus Marvel.com and Comixology put out free comics from time to time + sales.

My comics shop is in another town :P

Last year though they mailed me the FCBD issue with my subscription.

I was already going to participate, but now I'll be sure to bring a friend, maybe two. Also as I said in the newest trailer for the Flash "Who could say no to Mark Hamil"

I love FCBD. It's like a mini convention in a way. My local shops will have cosplay and local artists doing sketches. They'll put out superhero cupcakes and give out lantern rings and buttons for the kids. It's a good day and sometimes you might even discover something cool.

IIRC last year comixology gave some free issues and so did Image.

I TRY TO PARTICIPATE ... but my local store has a line all the way down the street on Free Comic Book Day, full of fat cosplayers who never usually read comics!!!!
