Yeah it's that time of year already. Marvel's getting ready to share the spirit with us. Normally I don't really get into these sort of comics. I mean, realistically, is anything really going to happen? Is there going to be any shocking event that will forever have an impact on the continuity of any of the characters involved. The way I see it, I'm not sure if it's worth my $4.
Buuuut, then you have to look at the list of creators involved. Dang it! Looks too good. Especially since Fred Hembeck's involved (you've read my interview with him, right?). Too much good talent on this. I think I have to get it. Plus Spidey and Wolvie "rushing a cake" to Aunt May's? How could you not want to see how that's going to turn out?
Tis the season to be a Marvel fan, as the Marvel Holiday Special dashes into stores with extra helpings of merry mutants, holiday cakes and…a rogue Santa? Featuring the talents of Mike Carey, C.B Cebulski, Fred Hembeck, Shaenon Garrity, Andrew Farago, Nelson, Alina Urusov, Lou Kang and more, this action packed extravaganza is perfect for the holidays! As Spider-Man and Wolverine rush to get a cake to Aunt May’s house, will a seemingly evil St Nick destroy the occasion? And just what happens when the Loners play Secret Santa? Plus, Power Pack looks back at holidays past! This extra-sized issue is wrapped up in a brand new cover (different than solicited) by fan-favorite artist Ron Lim!
It’s the perfect time of year to celebrate all you love in life and c’mon True Believer, what could be better than spending time with your favorite Marvel heroes? It’s the Marvel Holiday Special and it’s the best way to commemorate the season, bub!

Fred Hembeck,
Moon Knight,
Hulk
Here's our list of goodies from Marvel this week. First off, I strongly suggest picking up What if? Planet Hulk. Greg Pak wrote it so it won't be a so-so throw away issue. This is the mastermind behind all the recent Hulk goodness we've had since the Illuminati decided to chuck Hulk out into space. AND, none other that Fred Hembeck will be adding his talent to one story.
We also have a Moon Knight where he actually joins the Initiative. I was kind of bummed to hear that he was actually doing it but since he can be such an @$$, I'm hoping he really gives Stark some major headaches. Now he'll have a license to kick the crap out of the "bad guys." And don't forget, Peter David takes over on She-Hulk. Should be some good times.
And check out Gambit getting frisky on Rogue. It wouldn't be that bad if she hadn't just been shot in the chest. Give her a chance to recover. Sheesh.
All this and more Zombie variants that you probably won't be able to see (unless it has a big markup in price).
Hey there True Believers, here’s your official list of comic books and collections arriving in comic stores on October 24th, 2007. Fred Hembeck
We can now officially announce one of the things Fred has in the works. Bless Image Comics for pulling all this together. I cannot wait. February 2008? Argh. He's even offering autographed copies at cover price. He mentioned in his blog that he'll probabl even do a character sketch for a small, to be determined, price. Hey, this is your chance to get a groovy Hembeck drawn G-Man. Seriously, check out his site. He frequently puts up art on ebay and will do commissions of characters (not real people, I was an exception) or the cover re-dos.
Here's a bit of info on the upcoming book:
Come February, 2008, Image Publishing will be gearing up to release THE NEARLY COMPLETE ESSENTIAL HEMBECK ARCHIVES OMNIBUS, featuring over 900 (!) pages of material written and drawn by cartoonist Fred Hembeck (who, in this particular instance of shameless self-promotion, is the actual individual typing in these very words), culled from the past three decades.
And all of this fun stuff will cost you (get ready) LESS THAN TWENTY FIVE BUCKS!!
(A single solitary penny less, true, but still, I'm thinking, a pretty gosh-darn good deal!...)
So, what exactly do we have to offer you in this massive volume?
Well, how about every single Dateline:@#$% strip EVER?
That's how this whole thing started out, y'see--my old buddy (and veteran comics embellisher) Al Gordon's suggested I put together a collection of each and every one of those old cartoons, including all the ones that had never been reprinted in a more permanent format previously. Al then proceeded to get his pal--and Image Publisher--Erik Larsen interested in the notion, and once things got rolling along, Erik encouraged me to expand the scope of the book to include a wide variety of additional material as well, some of which had never been seen before and some of which had turned up only in the most obscure of places.
For the specifics of what will be inside (including mention of the Thing wearing a thong!) go to: www.hembeck.com/More/HembeckOmnibusInfoPage.htm
You can even pre-order it at amazon.
And if you haven't read my interview with him, what the heck are you waiting for? www.comicvine.com/fred-hembeck/40571/

A very good question. For one, we wouldn't have had so many crossover stories and tie-ins. Don't get me wrong, I love World War Hulk. Hulk has always been one of my fav's and I've been enjoying the stories since Planet Hulk. It's nice to have a change. No longer is the Hulk on the run. He's always wanted to be left alone but this time he was pushed too far. I do fear for how the story will end. How can things neatly go back to the way they were? I'm also very glad this is written by Greg Pak. If it had been done by anyone else, it would've been an insult to all that he's achieved. AND FRED HEMBECK is a contributor!! Hot Dog!!
As the summer’s biggest comic book event, World War Hulk, rages on, acclaimed writer behind it now turns his attentions to what could have been in What If? Planet Hulk. From Planet Hulk and World War Hulk author Greg Pak, artists Leonard Kirk, Rafa Sandoval and Fred Hembeck, comes this special extra-sized one-shot showing just how the year’s top selling event could have gone in three different paths! First, what if the Hulk had arrived at the intended destination of the Illuminati? Could this peaceful planet have tamed the savage Hulk? And then, what if Hulk died and his wife instead led the army against Earth? Finally, the one page story you demanded: what if Banner, not the Hulk, landed on Sakaar? That’s tree stories, one issue and a stunning cover by Planet Hulk artist Carlo Pagulayan!
“If you thought Hulk was brutal in WWH, you’ve seen nothing like Caiera’s revenge story,” said editor Mark Paniccia. “The Illuminati is lucky she’s not the one who came out of the stone ship. Iron Man will loose his head when he meets her (literally). Plus there are a few other surprising tie-ins to the current mythos. The other two stories are brilliant. Greg went absolutely wild with these tales.”
That’s three different outcomes for the Hulk straight from the man writing some of the most exciting stories in the character’s history! Greg Pak and friends bring you three stories that could—perhaps should—have been featuring the Incredible Hulk as you’ve never seen him before! It’s What If? Planet Hulk and once you’ve finished this special extra-sized one shot, your jaw will be on the floor!
