He was released on the sea train, and he fought along with Usopp and Sanji of the Straw Hats. They were trying o free Nico Robin, and Franky had heard of her ability to read the Poneglyphs from Tom.Franky was captured again when Robin betrayed her friends, and they were both taken to Enies Lobby.

The Straw Hats came to Enies Lobby to save Robin, and Franky burned the Pluton plans once he realized that Robin had no intention of reviving any of the ancient weapons. Franky then aided the Straw Hats in trying to free Nico Robin.m but that meant defeating all the CP-9 since only one had the key to Robin's cuffs. Franky fought Fukuro and won after he got a power boost of fresh cola. Then following Nami's instructions, he stopped the rampage of the monstrously transformed Chopper. It was ultimately Franky who ran on ahead to free Robin of her cuffs and defend her until the rest of the crew arrived.

Once back at Water Seven, Franky swore to the Straw Hats that he would build them anew ship using the wood of the Adam tree. He was helped by Iceburg and his Galley-La Workers in building the Thousand Sunny. Due to the Enies Lobby incident, Franky was now a wanted man, and his own Franky Family was trying to force him to run off with the Straw Hats on their journey. Franky was still reluctant, but his protesting was broken by the actions of Nico Robin. Iceburg also reassured him that it was time he followed his own dream aboard the sip he created. Franky officially joined the crew as their shipwright.

    Thriller Bark Arc

Franky's first adventure as a pirate led into the Florian Triangle where the crew met a talking skeleton named Brook, then were captured in the gates of Thriller Bark. The crew went on the island to find Nami, Usopp, and Chopper, and they found the island filled with monsters and zombies. Franky fought along with the his new crew against the island of monsters who were being led by Gecko Moria, one of the Seven Warlords.

Franky and the Straw Hats had to join forces to fight and defeat the giant zombie Oars, who was powered from Luffy's shadow. With the monster and Moria defeated, they were caught off guard by the attack of Bartholomew Kuma's shock wave. However, only Zoro was injured when the rest of the crew was awake. They all soon left Thriller Bark with Brook as their musician.

    Sabaody Archipelago Arc

The crew met a mermaid Camie and freed her captured friend Hatchan. He in turn offered to help them find his friend Silvers Rayleigh, who could give their ship the coating they needed to reach Fish-Man Island. Franky mostly stayed aboard the Sunny on Sabaody Archipelago until they got word Camia had been kidnapped to be sold into slavery. The auction house became a brawl after Luffy decked one of the Celestial Dragons and the island was being overrun with Navy.

The crew's plan to go into hiding was short lived when a cyborg copy of Bartholomew Kuma stood in their path. The entire crew barely managed to stop this cyborg, but more arrived with Sentomaru and Admiral Akainu. Just as things looked at their worst, the real Kuma arrived and used his powers to cast all the Straw Hats off Sabaody to separate islands.

    Lost Friends Mini Arc

Franky crashed on Mechanical Island. he befriended the local boy Kitton, who saved him form the winter weather. While searching the island, Franky discovered that the island was filled with cyborg animals, and they were guarding the former lab of Vegapunk, the world's greatest genius.

    Dawn island Arc

The Navy had been attracted to the lab by information from the locals and it ended up with them chasing Franky through the labs. During the chase, Franky found a button that accidentally blew up much of the lab, and it seriously damaged Franky's face. However, he also found a secret Vegapunk lab filled with amazing plans.

After learning through the news how Luffy had taken part in the Paramount War at Marineford and lost his brother Ace in the fight, Franky tried to find a way off the island. A few days later, Franky saw the picture of Luffy in the paper that had a code for the Straw Hats. They were to wait and reunite in two years. Franky took that time to advance his own cyborg body and create new devices using what he learned from Vegapunk's plans.

    Fish-Man Island Arc

Franky arrived a bit earlier than much of the crew to Sabaody to do some work on the Sunny, and what he found there was Bartholomew Kuma. He had been guarding their ship for two years. One by one the crew gathered back together on the ship and sailed off for Fish-Man Island. During the trip, Franky told them how he learned that Kuma had in fact saved the crew by separating them two years ago.

The crew were scattered in the currents by entering Fish-Man Island after blasting past the the New Fish-Man Pirates. Franky then went to see Din, Tom's brother, at the Sea Forest. Much to Franky's surprise, much of the crew began gathering there as well. When Hody attempted to kill the royal family, Franky and all the Straw Hats joined in the battle to save them. Franky was able to show off many of his latest inventions hidden on the Sunny. More importantly, he showed off the General Franky as he fought Ikaros Much. He still finished him off with the Franky Radical Beam.

There was a huge party to celebrate the island being saved, then they prepared to leave the island for the New World.

    Punk Hazard Arc

Franky and much of the crew were knocked out with sleeping gas right outside Punk Hazard, and they woke up in a cell along with a talking severed head of the samurai Kin'emon. They busted out of the cell to find a room full of kids asking for their help. During the escape, they crossed paths with the Navy facing off with Trafalgar Law, one of the Seven Warlords. Before they could get away, Law used his powers to switch the minds and bodies of Franky, Sanji, Nami, and Chopper. Franky's mind was in Chopper's body, and Nami was in his own.

When the Yeti Cool Brothers captured Nami, Franky insisted on joining Lufy since it was his body she was in. Franky was of little help since he took one of Chopper's Rumble Balls right away and turned into a monster. He had no way of controlling this form, and Luffy was forced to knock him unconscious. Franky was later put back into his own body by Law after Luffy had formed an alliance with him. Part of the plan was to capture Caesar Clown, but they wound up captured by him. While in a cell, they were put out into the island filling with a poison gas, but Law got them freed and back inside.

Franky took this opportunity go retrieve the Mini Merry from the fire side of the island, and he waited outside in the General Franky. When Buffalo and Baby 5 arrived, Franky fought with the pair of Doflamingo's men. After Baby 5 finally pierced the armor of the General Franky, he stopped going easy on the and defeated the two. Only then did he realize they were there to rescue Caesar Clown. Once the crew were free of the facility, they gathered up Caesar Clown to head for Dressrosa along with Trafalgar Law and Kin'emon.

    Dressrosa Arc

Franky was part of the team to search Dressrosa for the artificial devil fruit, but much of them got fractured in some chaos in town. Luffy was the only one left with him. While they were investigating, they learned that Doflamingo was offering Ace's Flame-Flame Fruit as the prize in a tournament as a trap for Luffy. Luffy entered the competition, and Franky went in search for the factory.
