François Maingoval was born on May 5, 1975, in Belgium. He grew up in an appartment formerly rented by Peyo, creator of The Smurfs, and the master's old workshop was his first bedroom. He wrote his first cript at 14 and had two gags published in Le Journal De Tintin when he was 16. He continued to write for various comic book magazines while pursuing engineering studies in Louvain. In 1998 he had a chance online meeting with Vincent Dutreuil, who was looking for a writer and that led to the creation of Les Spectres du Caire, his first album, in the Ada Enigma series. He then worked on several new series, such as Barbara Wolf, with Bruno Marivain or L’Empreinte de Satan with Ed-Nane, as well as several one-shots, such as Lovely Trouble and Les Allumeuses. In 2005, Maingoval joins Jacques Martin's team and starts scripting the Les Aventures D'Alix series based on the master's synopsises. He initiated the short-lived spinoff Alix Raconte, a series of fictionalized biography novels based on important figures of the Ancient World such as Alexander The Great, Nero and Cleopatra. In addition to his comic book work, François Maingoval coaches business executives.
