'X-Men: Apocalypse' to End 'X-Men: First Class' Trilogy

While answering fan questions over at Yahoo!, X-Men movies writer/producer Simon Kinberg stated that Bryan Singer's next X-Men movie, X-Men: Apocalypse, will be the conclusion of the trilogy which started back with 2011's X-Men: First Class. Kinberg said the "thrust of Apocalypse" is "to complete the stories of young Raven, young Hank, younger Charles and Erik." Kinberg added that the movie will also add new characters that we've yet to see on the big screen. Any guesses on who those characters could be, readers?

"Why didn't they use Quicksilver to solve their problems in X-Men: Days of Future Past?" It's a question many fans have asked. Well, according to Kinberg, the purpose of the Mystique mission was to save her spiritually, not physically. Because of that, Kinberg says that's something Quicksilver couldn't have done since he's a stranger to the shape-shifter. Technically, he could have stopped her and then brought her to the team so they could talk with her, but that would make for a way less exciting movie, wouldn't it?

X-Men: Apocalypse is directed by Bryan Singer and it's slated to open May 27, 2016.

I hate it when fans think too logically about movies. Yeah, Quicksilver COULD have helped, but where's the fun in that?? It's like when people complain that the Avengers don't show up in individual movies to help each other out. The movie would end in 10 mins if that were the case.

@the_stegman: That and Marvel has done an excellent excellent job giving reasons why they don't just show up, and monitoring all of their movie continuity.

I bet it's the same reason that every character doesn't appear in every comic when something big happens, they each got their own shit going on! I just imagine that all of the Phase 2 movies happen around the same time.

Days of Future Past felt more like 'X-Men 3' than 'First Class 2' to me.

Since we know Gambit has been cast he may show up in Apocalypse. And since Gambit used to run with a young Storm, they might show up together in the movie. I think I read somewhere that they were maybe looking at Psylocke to show up as well

This. DoFP definitely looked like the end of a trilogy.

I don't excpect a lot of new mutant if it's the last movie of the trilogy. My hopes for Cyke are washed away. At least Magneto will still be a freaking boss.

If this is so, please let their be Morph like in the series instead of Mystique!!! he would no doubt steal the show- humour yes... but also if I can remember right he turns into rogues/magneto's son to get rogue up and angry and fighting again against holocaust- she then says that she didn't know he could be sentimental etc...So yes, Morph please-he kicks arse!!

they seriously have an amazing cast right now, they should take advantage of it and make at least one more after Apocalypse. I mean whens the next time that we are gonna get amazing talented actors like Fassbender and McAvoy???

Can't wait for Apocalypse! This trilogy is so much better than the first X-men trilogy and could give the Dark Knight trilogy a run for its money.

I really wonder where the franchise will go after this.

Plus, Quicksilver was still just a teenager living with his mom. The movie made it clear he was more into using his powers for his own gain and for fun than taking a stand with them and doing something important.

Nooooooo, The First Class trilogy was awesome and had an incredible cast.

What happens to the X-Men franchise after Apocalypse?? I want more of the first class characters.

I hope they stay in the 80's for awhile. I think the period settings for these movies make them special.

And I definitely want to see them launch the real "First Class" with young versions of Cyke, Iceman, Angel, and Jean done well.

The Blu-ray comes out on the 14th. Or you could wait a few more months for the extended version.

With the advent of the Deadpool movie, Fox will be wanting a blank slate universe for X-Force and all of that.

Plus, AoA will technically be the 8th film of the franchise, which is crazy when you consider that the entire MCU only has 10 films.

awesome cast, be a shame to let it go based off of invisible industry rules of never making more than three of a movie. Singer has an incredible ensemble cast. This chapter shouldnt end without taking full advantage of the talent they have

Quicksilver could also go back in time as his secondary mutation. But I guess his future self didn't survive or must have been captured in the concentration camps.

So, the trilogy of Wolverine joining the X-Men and f*cking sh*t up happened, now the prequel trilogy is coming to a clo-... waitaminute... prequel trilogy?

Imagine if early in the movie there was a scene where Hank talks about his new invention: a teleporter that can find anyone in the world and bring them to you even if you don't know where they are. They talk about how cool it is, and show how it works, the audience sees how useful it is, and then its never used again for the rest of the movie.

That would be infuriating. You just can't do that, its not good writing. You either need to come up with an in-story reason for why they're not using the teleporter, or you just shouldn't introduce it into the plot in the first place. And its the exact same deal with Quicksilver; If they couldn't think of a plausible reason for why the most useful member of the team wasn't brought along, then they just should have left him out altogether.
And its such an easy fix too! Just have him hurt his leg during the escape from the prison or something. Speedster can't run, ergo he's no longer useful and has to be left behind.

That's really my only issue with the movie though. Well, that and the fact that they killed Emma Frost off-screen between movies. Because, yknow, its not like she's an important character or anything :P

Why does everything have to be a trilogy? Just keep making movies until you run out of ideas, don't just stop when you are just getting started.

My guesses as to who they might throw into this movie that we have yet to see in the X-Men movies are Archangel, Psylocke, and Jubilee.

The Four Horseman have to be in here. Often in the comics they're established characters who've been corrupted, so it wouldn't surprise me if Mystique was one, and maybe Sabretooth. Holocaust might be in here too, which I'd like. I'd be kind of surprised if Sinister didn't at the very least show up after the credits or in a tiny cameo. And you have to imagine Magneto will probably have a new follower or two. Exodus would be great in an Apocalypse movie, I think.

You are missing out. It was a very good movie imo and turned out to be my most favorite x men and one of my most favorite superhero movies to date. Even if the overall story doesn't appeal to you you can enjoy the movie throughout. Singer seems to have captured the fun aspect of comic book characters far more than any other superhero movies he did.

Can't wait to see what he comes up with in the next installment.

Highly recommend watching it, man. Best X-Men film by far.

I actually prefer this cast than the older one (but Huge Jackman is still the best X-men actor though).

I still think that making the First Class movies canon with the Singer movies was a wasted opportunity.

I have yet to become engaged although I am pretty sure I saw every movie in this series. I just kinda watch them cause: it's the X Men on the big screen? I used to wish for this as a kid?

Please TOAA, give Marvel their properties back. Fox is ruining everything.

1) The Juggernaut? I seriously want to punch someone for that.

2) They ALREADY used Deadpool. They removed his mouth and turned him into Baraka/clops. I wanna kick some balls. How ever do they plan to retcon that bullsh;+.

3) First Class? Not the ACTUAL first class, just a bunch of random mutants.

4) Sentinals? Not AS bad a s what they did to Juggy but still pretty wack (Just use the design from the !$%&*&^!*^&*%! COMICS!!!)

In conclusion: this series is like a nightmare to me. Maybe we can get some real X Men movies in like 2030.

1) There's nothing wrong with the Juggernaut. If you're thinking about Xavier's relationship with him, there's none. The last name, Xavier and Marko are different. Just like Eric Lehnsherr and Pietro Maximoff, which means there wasn't any son and father relationship hinted in the movie.

2) Logan altered the timeline, which means Deadpool won't become that mouthless character and will get stick to his comic book roots in the upcoming movie.

3) First Class is not just a bunch of mutants. It's how the X-Men started in the 1960s.

4) The Sentinels looked fine. Not everything has to look perfect in the comics. These are movies and they had to be different. Remember, these movies were not just meant for comic book fans to watch.

Juggs is the size of the freaking HULK and he's not even a freaking mutant. Grrrr.....

The point about Deadpool is: some MORON wrote that and some other group of MORONS green lighted it. If they go that far wrong, then I don't trust them with this material.

The "first class" of the X Men did not include Darwin and Fairy Girl. Like not even close. Not even close to close. Banshee I could give a pass to... but why not use the actual first X Men team?

@edblank: you can blame directors and writers who don't care and who decided "oh this persons power was cool lets use them". "We need fresh faces" so eff using the original x-men. Instead of using a back story and changing things to make it fresh,they assemble everything like a random legos. Everyone loved whedon cause he made the avengers...THE ACTUAL avengers.

With deadpool I think fox knows they messed up. That is why the test footage looks and feels like deadpool.

I actually liked the sentinels of the future. So powerful and sooooo creepy. They blew my expectations away. But with the movies and using the original looks and storys of characters? They never will. I don't think they will respect comics enough to treat it like lord of the rings or harry potter.

I just try to enjoy the movies for what they are.
