Agreed. That's one of the reasons i've always loved Spider-Man so much. We get it, they're heroes and have to deal with fantastic and horrific events, but life goes on and every now and then its nice to see what they're like in their downtime.

Yeah i Read that one with black widow, lol. I mean what is up with her sleeping pose, that is not how a Queen should sleep like. She should sleep peacefully, Does anyone sleep like that? This is somehow Bendis fault. Anything weird out there, he did it.

@hopesummersforthefuture: Babies sleep like that. My niece use to sleep like that, when she was a baby. Not sure if Bendis can write Emma Frost well. It's still a funny moment though. Still can't believe she made a sex tape, she really is a slut.

Well she got used to sleeping in that position after remaining that way for awhile every night, when she was with Cyclops.

Apparently she loves being in that position...

Nice let's take emma to an even lower level. There are other ways to show strange sleeping habits that don't take the reader right to a sex position.

First of all there is no need to be rude. Secondly everytime a open and x-men book she is in her underwear alot and not only because she wears "revealing attire" for superhero unifoms

Criticizing someone's sexuality is just offensive either way. It's assuming the right to judge someone for something that's none of your business, it's the same as being homophobic.

And, yes, the double standard of how it's applied to women more than men does make it sexist on top of that. It propagates the idea that society is entitled to judge a woman (or anyone) based on what they do with their own body. This idea of entitlement basically objectifies women in and of itself. If you're actually calling someone a slut, it's slut-shaming, so just don't. :)

The criticism you bring up about Emma's character being over-sexualized by writers or artists may itself be valid (and, personally, I do think it's worth discussing), it's just that by calling her a slut starts that dialogue from a sexist perspective.

You strike me as person, who takes things way to seriously. Let's be honest here, it shouldn't matter if I'm calling Emma slut. You want to know why, cause she not real. She not real person, she is fictional character. So it shouldn't matter that much. It's not like I'm going out and calling woman those types of names. I'm woman myself by the way and I will never do that anyway.

I also I'm like to point out, I'm not the only one who has done it. Other people have called her a slut, some people have even called her whore. I think Rogue has been called names as well. As I've said before it shouldn't matter, there not real people.

It is my business, if I'm spending money on comic and all I'm seeing Emma being half naked all the time, then it is my business.

All Marvel have care about it making her look good. Just look at Matt Fraction run and Kieran Gillian run. How many times did we see her half naked. How many times was she in bedroom with Scott. Saying that did Jean Grey and Scott ever get kind of attention. Hell no. No X-Men couples got that kind of attention.

What about her solo series the one with the covers below. Did any of the other X-ladies get this kind of attention. Did Jean, did Storm, did kitty or Psylocke. Hell no. Rogue and Mystique had some good covers for there solo series, but nothing like this. As I said before Emma does deserve some criticisms.

That Emma's a fictional character does not make the term itself less offensive.

Northstar's a fictional character, but if I were to refer to him as a fag, it would still be offensive because the term itself is offensive. By using the term slut, you're not just judging a fictional character, you're also passing judgement on what actual people should or shouldn't do with their own bodies, and propagating the normalization of that type of judgement. It's an ethnocentric slur.

I do agree with you that the way many writers and artists have depicted Emma has been pretty insulting.

Not because of what she's doing (or what she wears) in itself; if an actual person did things that Emma does with her sexuality, I wouldn't feel it was my place to judge them, so I don't judge her on that basis.

But, as a fictional character that is a representation a woman, I often find the way she is sexualized is in a way that objectifies woman, and in that regard I generally find it to be in poor taste.

At first glance, I thought her position in bed was just to make the mood funny to follow the more light-hearted tone of the comic. I don't think the intent was for people to immediately go "doggy style! Yup, she's a slut!". Throw in the fact that the artwork is meh and she is in rather normal clothing in a bed by herself, it isn't meant to make you think sexy.

I'm not saying there's anything wrong with making a bum-sex joke about a picture of someone sleeping with their bum in the air, I'm just pointing out that there's also nothing implicitly sexual about it.

That you want to joke about it being sexual, that actually did make me chuckle :v

..i'm just saying that it's the joke that's implicitly sexual, not anything in the preview.

@oldnightcrawler: As I said before, you take things way to seriously. I'm not really bothered if the slut word is offensive. I haven't directly the word at any other female characters from comics or any real people. It's directly at a fictional character, someone who doesn't even exist. I'm not making judgements on how real people live, I'm criticizing Emma. Loads of people on comic vine called characters certain names on comic vine. They don't apologise for it or make big deal of it and neither should we.

I've been digusting with the way Marvel handle Emma Frost character, not only did she sleep her way too the top. The way she been promoting in comics has been really digusting to see.

okay, see, this is an example of what I'm talking about, what entitles you to have an opinion about someone sleeping their way to the top? Calling someone a slut is slut-shaming, and it effects how all women are treated. It's saying that it's acceptable to judge a woman based on her sexuality, and it shouldn't be.

Just because other people do it does not make it okay. But I guess you don't care that it's offensive, so I don't know why I'm wasting my breath. I'm just always disheartened in the face of willful ignorance, which sadly, Time, you are producing in abundance on this thread.

#34 Posted by lykopis (10756 posts) - - Show Bio

Slut-shaming is rampant on this thread. That a simple panel (which is obviously a character exhausted) being used to do so is just sad and even a little creepy.

I criticize Emma cause of her actions and how she written in comics. She did sleep her way to the top. She is where she today for 3 reasons. First reason, Scott Summers. Second reason, Jean Grey. Third reason, dumb Marvel.

I'm not criticizing her on the way sleeps, I'm criticizing her on fact, that she been in a sex video and how she got to where she is and how she been written in comics.

hey, I never said you didn't say you couldn't share your opinions; you're right, you do have the right to think and say whatever you want, but that doesn't make whatever you say right. or even okay. It doesn't justify something just because you can say it.

What I said was, what makes you feel like someone else's sexuality is any of your business? Who are you to judge?

#37 Edited by time (4845 posts) - - Show Bio

@oldnightcrawler: I'm comic fan, just like you. As comic fans we have right to judge and criticize any comic characters. That's what fans do. You did say to me 'what entitles you to have opinion about someone sleeping there way to the top'. I don't agree with what your saying and I think kind of rude to say that. I criticize a fictional character and you be rude to me.

What right in that.

I'm sorry if I was rude, but the only reason I was asking that question in the first place was because you were using offensive slurs, and said you didn't care if they were offensive.

Then again, if you don't care that I'm offended, why should I care that I've offended you? see where that gets us?

I was asking because I wanted to know how you could justify being intentionally offensive, and you still haven't.

Bendis' sense of humor on this really aggravates me for some reason. It's no reason to have Emma sleeping that way, especially when in other issues that had her sleeping or in a sleeping position it wasn't that way. IMO it's just Bendis doing whatever the hell he wants nobody shutting some of his stupid crap down. Is he trying to ruin the Xmen?

Now that I got that out and after my little b*tchfest...

Im ok with the occasional chill out issue. Let's face it every second of eveyday is not a life or death superhero cataclysm. However just so people like me dont feel cheated in paying $4 for a normal day- break from why we read in the 1st place issue..... I kinda wish this could be a double-issue with action and an advance of an already dragging storyline. Or of not a double then another release (in this case issue 16) in like 2 weeks or so. Or maybe even 40-50 page if we dont want to go full on double

By the way... though i love lingerie and have always been a fan of Emma's and Psylocke's uniforms as well as now Magik's. I could still go for Emma being in suit like Dazzler has been. You know the all-white deal with her holding the gun.... or even the high split-side thigh and leg out deal that Mystique and AoA Blink wear. With the white boots and belt of diamonds would be cool (similar to Mysique's belt of skulls before)
