WTF, MARVEL!??!?!
SO, I understand why Fearless Defenders & She-Hulk got cancelled-- But Elektra is getting canceled now? AND to top that off, rumors about Storm being cancelled soon are starting to swirl. I DON'T THINK SO!
Storm has received so much love for SOO many different people. Particularly, minorities, women, and the gay community. I've seen people buy multiple Storm comics. The Storm solo has such strong and powerful writing.
So next I hear Spider-Gwen and Gamora are getting their own solos.... Seriously?? Marvel if you can't make your classic women A-listers fly and give them a reasonable chance then you aren't doing your job and have no business popping more out to receive a similar fate.
Keep Storm's Solo alive-- Rogue Fans, Jean Fans, Psylcoke Fans, Emma Fans, etc this applies to you too. If they can just cancel this book all willy-nilly, expect the same to happen to your favorite women character-- or worse-- they never get another chance at solo.
#savestorm
Diversity isn't Marvel's strong suit. So I feel they owe us this much. AND BEFORE ANYONE DARES SAY 'We have black Cap and a woman Thor solos-- NO! Those are knock offs of more famous heroes riding off previous success.
I swear if this series gets cancelled I am switching to Image and DC. Marvel plays too many foolish, childish, trolling games with my beloved X-men. Saga is better than 99.99% of Marvel books anyways.
STOP CANCELLING WOMEN CENTERED TITLES!
All of the love in the world won't save a title from low sales and editorial indifference. Marvel will trot out books with female stars for the press coverage, but with rare exception they won't stand by them. If you want good female led titles you have to go independent. Princess Ugg, the Life of Bold Riley... far better than most mainstream titles.
You can't really blame Marvel, at least they put out the books, it's not their fault no one buys them.
All of the love in the world won't save a title from low sales and editorial indifference.
And this goes for all titles regardless of the leads gender, race, or popularity. There are more then a few team titles getting this treatment as well.
What we should be concerned about is the indifference to titles across the board and lack of efforts to improve not only sales but quality. Editorial indifference indeed.

I don't want to sound like a dick, but I'm pretty sure that that literally is their business.
I'm not saying I don't feel you on the Storm front; I'm really digging Storm's book, and I'd hate to see it go. I'm already pretty disappointed that She-Hulk and All-New X-Factor are getting cancelled, because they're two of my favorite books. At least with Storm, she'll certainly still be around in the X-men, so while it would be a shame to lose her book, it's not like she wouldn't still be a marquee character.
But, anyway, I guess I just don't feel the same sense of entitlement about comics. If a book doesn't sell, it's not unreasonable for them to assume that people aren't interested, and it really is marvel's job to try to find something will interest them. It's not like they haven't been trying to give more characters a chance; maybe you're right that they deserve more of a chance, but the blame ultimately doesn't fall on them, really. I mean, if they didn't want Storm to succeed in her own book, they wouldn't have given her one.
I get the frustration of this -books I love seem to get cancelled all the time, but it's the fans who are responsible for what stays in print and what doesn't. If it were up to marvel, they'd have every character get their own book; but even if the books are good, not every character sells books, and that's not really marvel's fault.
personally, i'm more inclined to get frustrated with other fans. Surely the X-men have one of the largest fan bases in comics, and certainly a lot of those fans are fans of Storm. So when I see so few of them willing to give actually good books like Storm or X-factor a chance because they aren't the *main books*, it just makes makes me kind of sad to think what great stories we might all miss out on.
If it doesn't sell, Marvel has to get rid of it, that's business. I don't like it, but I understand it, same with DC and all the fallen 52.
I don't understand what you don't understand. They are a business. What do you think makes them put out or keep a book? It's Money. Either money they get or money they think they will get. You don't meet those two requirements you get canceled.. Diversity? doesn't matter. Sales do. Love? If she was getting the love you think she is then she would be selling enough to keep her afloat. They don't owe anyone anything. They put out a product and either it gets bought or it doesn't. They don't care what it is as long as it sells. If it's a problem for you then switch.
I don't blame them for cancelling it at all. It is only the fourth issue and it is already selling less than 20,000 issues. That is really bad. Elektra is only selling at 15k.
Storm was the 71st best selling Marvel title in October. There were only 15 that sold less in the Diamond top 300. Two of those were Death of Wolverine issues that were from a previous month. Five more are niche titles like Miracleman, Dark Tower, Figment, and Empire of the Dead. There are only 8 regular titles below it and I believe most of them are being cancelled or scheduled to end soon shortly anyways.
Pretty much what everyone else said. If the title doesn't sell, then Marvel is inclined to cancel the title, even if we don't agree with those decisions. I think the reason why we've been getting a lot of canceled X-Men titles lately is because they are not the main titles and it would be pretty hard for many fans to keep up with so many characters and titles and they could only stick with titles that has the main story, even though they would want a solo series for their favorite characters.

5th issue, but yeah. Surely there are more than 20,000 Storm fans among the 90,000 or so fans who bought X-men #1 last year, but they either aren't interested or don't think the book is good enough.
I like Storm's book, but my favorite character is Nightcrawller and I don't read his book because I don't think it's good. There's also that, you don't want people to just buy a book even if it's bad, just because it's got your favorite character. That's why there ends up being so many mediocre X-men comics: because people will buy them regardless.
Storm is getting cancelled?
When was it announced that Gamora is getting her own solo?
Not too long ago.
@dagmar_merrill: Is there any covers? Or when it's going to be out?
What everyone else said. Things get canceled if they don't make money and hating on the things that May or may not replace them isn't right or helpful to anyone
Everyone already said it, but yeah, they're getting cancelled 'cos the sales numbers just aren't there, not 'cos they star female characters.
I frankly think Marvel should be applauded for making a concentrated effort to appeal to the female market (and anyone else who enjoys reading about powerful women starring in their own series) by releasing all sorts of different female-led ongoings, INCLUDING "Spider-Gwen" and "Gamora."
The real problem is a lack of advertising by Marvel. The new female "Thor" was advertised on TV talk shows and its #1 issue sold 150k+. Books like "Storm" receive zero promotion from Marvel, leaving it to the creators (like Greg Pak) and fans to be cheerleaders for their series, month after month watching sales hover around the 20k line.
But seriously, Marvel is awesome for finally pushing female ongoings the way DC has for decades.
I don't know how many we had in December 2013 and before, but I've gone back and looked at sales throughout the year. I won't post the whole thing 'cos it's super long, but just to give you an idea, take a look at the #1 issues (numbers from ComiChron):
JANUARY 2014
20 Black Widow 1 $3.99 Marvel 53,879
FEBRUARY 2014
24 Ms Marvel 1 $2.99 Marvel 50,286
36 She-Hulk 1 $2.99 Marvel 41,894
MARCH 2014
32 Captain Marvel 1 $3.99 Marvel 44,248
APRIL 2014
32 Elektra 1 $3.99 Marvel 47,676
JULY 2014
46 Storm 1 $3.99 Marvel 47,566
And then, of course, that brings us to:
OCTOBER 2014
3 Thor 1 $3.99 Marvel 150,862
91 Ms Marvel 9 $2.99 Marvel 32,915
120 Black Widow 11 $3.99 Marvel 23,922
132 She-Hulk 9 $2.99 Marvel 21,418 - cancelled
141 Captain Marvel 8 $3.99 Marvel 20,692
148 Storm 4 $3.99 Marvel 19,862
177 Elektra 7 $3.99 Marvel 15,021 - cancelled
Going forward, we have:
NOVEMBER 2014
Spider-Woman 1
DECEMBER 2014
Angela: Asgard’s Assassin 1
JANUARY 2015
The Unbeatable Squirrel Girl 1
FEBRUARY 2015
Spider-Gwen 1
Silk 1
SPRING 2015
Gamora 1
That's a whopping nine new female ongoings in 2014, with the promise of at leastfour more in 2015.
I don't want Marvel to cancel Storm. I want it to last 100 issues. But in the comic book market we have today, I just don't think that's a realistic goal with the way sales have been.
They'll cancel anything that's not selling well enough for them. If you want to help save Storm, get more people to preorder her comic and then go to the store (or digital retailer) and buy it.
Funny, I remember a few months ago reading an old article on this site about all the good books about female characters in Marvel Now, and feeling weird since all but one of them had been canceled. It seems like for whatever reason these books just can't stay afloat. I was going to buy Storm in trade, but maybe I'll start buying it weekly to help keep it afloat.
@starleafgirl: Nothing wrong with being a cheerleader :3 heh.

+1 to this comment. Lol.
@starleafgirl: Nothing wrong with being a cheerleader :3 heh.
Especially if you get to wear a sexy cheerleader outfit!
@starleafgirl: yeahhhh I probably won't wear a skirt XD
@starleafgirl: yeahhhh I probably won't wear a skirt XD
But how else are you going to be able to show off your totally ripped calves??
@starleafgirl: Well see, Chris Hemsworth is taken so I have no need to flaunt what I've got.
Okay- I don't believe it's just about sales and marketing. It's about a social responsibility. How many black heroes have solos??? Don't even dare say black panther. And personally I am still very vexed over all that time Storm spent out of the X-office as Black Panther trophy wife wallpaper, A hot minute getting her butt kicked as an Avenger and practically not being in X-men titles for a good while.
AND EVERYONE'S GOING TO HATE ME FOR THIS-- BUT WE ARE GOING THERE!
I still strongly believe X-men and Fantastic Four were sabotaged by Marvel to make the Avengers look good. Disagree if you want, but I remember once upon a time when Marvel was going bankrupt-- the X-men and Spiderman were the only thing keeping the entire company alive.
So on sooo many levels, I feel Marvel owes Storm this. Just sayin'. It's more than just those numbers. I'm buying double issues next time I go out!
I just want to point out that Storm brought in more money than She-hulk and Elektra last issue.
both of the books are getting cancelled though
it sucks that your favorite character's book is getting cancelled but this isn't some plot by Marvel
you've got to realize that this book had a lot going against it from the get go...Marvel has tried before to get a Storm ongoing to catch on and they failed...that should have been a sign to not get your hopes up for this one
Wolverine is the ONLY solo X-man that can sustain an ongoing title...plain and simple
I imagine that it won't be long before we get word that the Cyclops ongoing is getting cancelled as well

1) Storm is NOT getting cancelled... yet. We can still boost her sales numbers with preorders, people!
2) Marvel has never tried to get a Storm ongoing to catch on before. This is their first shot at an ongoing. All those other Storm comics were miniseries.

what do you think mini's are? Mini's are like sales pitches...this was especially true in the 80's and 90's where a strong selling mini would lead into an ongoing...this was Marvel and DC's way of testing the waters...you can guarantee that if any of the Storm mini's would have sold well then there would have been an ongoing...they didn't..there wasn't

The problem isn't ever the character, but the writer: you can have the best character in the world of comics (he can be Batman, Wolverine, Gambit, Storm, Wonder Woman…], but if the writer isn't able to write able to attract the readers, the series will have poor sales and it will be cancelled. This is what the Marvel do: it proposes various titles and if some titles don't have good sales, the Marvel cancel those titles and proposes others.
Electra is a perfect example of this: it is a very fascinating character, famous and loved in all fandom, with a background rich of possible starting point for various stories, but after her resurrection she had not ever have a successful series and she has became a secondary character.

Just preordered the next 12 issues from Marvel-- however that much good it will do.
And so true-- Mini's aren't attempts. Magik had a mini-- but nobody ever had intentions of giving her a mini solo. Doop has a mini-- Nobody is trying to give him an ongoing. If Doop got an ongoing and Storm go canceled, I'm done. I can't.

This.
You may not like it but in the end that is the only thing that matters. They put a product and and if it sales it will continue. If it doesn't it will be cancelled to put those resources into something that could actually sell.
Cold and hard business.

Just saying, I called this. Every X-Book is going to be cancelled, save the ones Bendis is writing.
This is the Bendis' comment: «Somebody somewhere for whatever reason, be it a lack of attention at home, frustration with their own life, whatever it is that motivates such things, completely pulls something right out of their ass and posted it on the Internet.
and sometimes, no matter how outlandish the claim, no matter how many people point to the lack of logic, no matter how much evidence there is to the contrary… some people choose to believe it.
I was told when I started writing the X-Men that there is a very small part of the readership that feels very persecuted. that no matter what Marvel does these readers think that marvel hates the X-Men with a fiery passion and are looking to destroy it.
and this goes back way before movies or cartoons, this goes waaaay back, so even though the best artists on the planet and franchise writers have been put in charge of this very important part of the Marvel universe some people still think that Marvel is out to blow its own foot off.
why THAT happens I cannot tell you. it just does.
but, without any kind of spoilers, something exciting is coming next summer. definitely. for sure. for the marvel universe and the X-Men which happen to be one and the same thing and have been for 50 years
EDIT: I just looked up what reboot means,
uh, never mind :)"»
I don't want a lot of book, I want good book.
I do not think to news is not verified: ten years ago, in an italian automobiles forum, I read the news that the FIAT was going to sell Ferrari. Ten years are passed, but I don't still see that sale.
Maybe it is true, all x-book will end in summer, but I want know why Marvel will end those book and what are its project about the mutants.

Dude, not quite true.
It's first arc is spinning out of a event, and while I was following and enjoying the event Im sure there's going to be an obvious sales drop for starters.
That and as a first time reader, nothing about the issue taught me anything about the character or endeared her to me. It even made me think less of the Silk who i was enjoying up till then. Basically this book is off to a bad start as far as first issues go so if if i had to make a (admittedly) early call it won't last long past the tie-in. Though it could turn it around after the event and return home for the character to make a fresh start.
If Storm gets canceled us Storm fanboys riot!
You don't want Jhazzroucher to riot .. we're just getting over his aftermath.
Perhaps marvel simply plans for the runs to be short and doesn't admit it? They won't mind an title that sells well enough to be an on going, but they plan only for a limited run and don't admit it for fear that some won't buy the regular comic and will wait for the trade.
I could have told you Storm wouldn't pass twelve issues, you should just be happy they even gave her a book.
She can't hold a book like a lot of characters male and female
While I do believe marketing has a hand in it, as a huge Elektra fan I can find no fault in her latest run. It had everything I wanted and yet, it didn't get picked up. While it will always be a gamble to have a character carry a book on their own, free of what's happening in the rest of its publisher's comic universes, there are some characters where nothing else will work. Elektra is one of them. Having her be part of Thunderbolts was particularly painful. Look what happened to Gambit? I loved that series as well but it got cancelled and even the New X-Factor. One thing they all have in common is working outside of what's happening with the other, well established team titles. My heart in in my throat for Iron Fist and Moon Knight. Ghost Rider too. I'll enjoy them while I can.
The same for She-Hulk. While a lot of people complained about the art, it was a top notch book and I'm bummed out that it's been cancelled. Another book I adored. Spider-Woman is doomed for failure because I can only take so much Land before I gouge my eyes out. I am hyped for Angela's new ongoing though. So, we'll see.
To be perfectly honest, most titles that become cancelled are usually my favourites. Plus, there is a sense of a merry go round. New titles will come and go. There's a reason why Elektra's recent run is V3. I can wait for her to get another ongoing again. In the meantime, I'll enjoy whatever is out there.
