6-0 to Exiles

Exiles. But I want to say I realy liked an alternate reality in X-treme where some of the mutants were gods, plus very nice art. Others were boring.

#208 Posted by JROCK72 (412 posts) - - Show Bio

Exiles, X-Treme X-Men is kinda irritating.

#209 Posted by McKlayn (1074 posts) - - Show Bio

Thats 8 Exiles win in a land slide, Next please!!

#210 Posted by McKlayn (1074 posts) - - Show Bio

ok what the hell, i'll do another :-p

X Men Blue: Cyclops, Wolverine, Psylocke, Beast, Gambit, Rogue and Occasionally Jubilee

Or

X Men Gold Storm, Jean Grey, Colossus, Bishop, Iceman, Archangel

#211 Posted by oldnightcrawler (4451 posts) - - Show Bio

@mcklayn: this is a tough one for me, not only because these were the teams when I started reading (back in 92), but also because most of the time members moved pretty fluidly between teams, depending on the story. So, for the most part, they really were just one big team.

For the most part though, when I think about which individual members really stood out from this period, it seemed like Colossus and Bishop were the only main characters of the gold team (with the other members being more supporting cast), while almost every member of the blue team (except maybe Cyclops) got a lot of focus. So, while I liked them both, and loved them as a whole, I gotta go with the blue team for overall characterization and group dynamics.

yeah, Blue Team.

Blue!

Gold, just for pity

which is sad, considering how great each of the members were individually. They just never had the same chemistry as the blue team.

#221 Posted by McKlayn (1074 posts) - - Show Bio

@oldnightcrawler: 7-1 One more For blue to win, alot more gold!

and your right, I LOVED both teams and its sad that blue is winning so heavy, GOLD is a great team i loved so many of the characters

#224 Posted by adamTRMM (1593 posts) - - Show Bio

Wow, the Gold team completely outclasses the Blue one by firepower.

#225 Posted by McKlayn (1074 posts) - - Show Bio

@oldnightcrawler: I havent voted actually so ill go blue for the win, 8-1 i think, Nightcrawler will you put up a new poll im running dry on ideas atm lol

#226 Edited by oldnightcrawler (4451 posts) - - Show Bio

@mcklayn: alright, I got the idea for this round from the last one:

Classic era X-men vs Outback era X-men!

#227 Posted by McKlayn (1074 posts) - - Show Bio

I am for sure tacking my vote to Classic, its so hard to beat that team, like period and the out back was great but in comparison with the classic team i just cant fairly vote for t hem

So mark one for classic!

#228 Posted by oldnightcrawler (4451 posts) - - Show Bio

@mcklayn: 2-0 for the Classic team, then.

#229 Posted by mechem_93 (122 posts) - - Show Bio

@oldnightcrawler: why did storm had those "feline" eyes during that era? I never understood...

Anyway, I vote for classic team.

so, 3-0 for the Classic team..

As I understand it, Storm's character design was actually the product of combining two character ideas. One was a male hero named Typhoon or Tornado or something, who controlled the weather, the other was a character who looked very much like Storm, named the Black Cat. The 'Cat's powers were basically like Wolfsbane, except she turned into a cat instead of a wolf, which is most likely why Storm's original costume was so reveling, so that, like Colossus, her physical transformation could be shown in a more visual way.

Storm's original look was basically the Black Cat + white hair and a cape, so I always thought it was because of that. Although, her eyes did start to get drawn more cat-like during her punk period, perhaps as an in-joke that she had lost her weather manipulation powers.

Outback X-Men. I just found them more interesting and it was nice to see the team change and grow

I can dig that. I did like the addition of Psylocke and Havok to the team, I just never felt like Longshot or Dazzler made up for what the team lost in Kitty, Rachel, and Nightcrawler. The individual members may have been interesting enough, but the change of the group dynamic, even with half the same members, made it a completely different animal.

Mostly I just wasn't a fan of the stories from that era. Except for the original Genosha story, that's the only arc I would consider an essential X-men story from that period.

don't even get me started on why I don't like the rest of the Outback era, just read this story and love the X-men.

Yeah, different strokes for different folks. I liked the Outback Era for multiple reasons. I actually liked Longshot and Dazzler and I was kind of bummed when they were written out of the fold. I enjoyed how the X-Men were kind of "renegades" for the first time...no generic headquarters...no mentor, just Storm leading a team that hadn't really been used to working together. I also liked how the X-Men were given some new villains at this time...this era just felt the beginning of the rebirth for the X-Men that was sadly stunted when Claremont left the book. I understand he was going to have Forge as a regular, Polaris was supposed to have super strength, Gateway would have been a regular. The 90s would have been so much more interesting IMO, if they would have followed through.

yeah, I can't deny that I was really into a lot of what the outback era had going for it. The outlaw law thing was cool, not having Kitty or the New mutants around made the book feel more mature and edgy, and the characters were all pretty well written and interesting. In some ways it was sort of the template for what X-force would become in the 90's. And, yeah, Gateway was just awesome.

I see what you mean about how the 90's could have been different, but I kind of liked that that was the first time all of the original and most of the classic X-men were together on one team. For good or ill it was, and probably still is, a time that the X-men are most well known for.

The outback era did have some really quality covers (even if the art inside was often a bit sloppy).

And they sure did emphasize how much punishment Wolverine can take in this period. It really played to his strengths though, like when he's just the only guy for the job, or the last man standing when the chips are down; it's pretty easy to see how he became the star of the book here.
