The director Michelle Maclaren is leaving the WW movie over creative difference
Already a thread on this, but yeah I'm not all that concerned. I'm sure they'll find a great replacement
@mrtummytumms: didn't know there was another thread
@nybreezy: I think this is the problem with putting her in batman v superman. the only director they will get now is one there for the paycheck. they won´t want directors with strong vision. they´ll want ones who will be subervient to the bottom line. They should´ve allowed this woman what ever she wants. if she wanted a seperate universe so what. WW deserves her own movie with a director with strong vision. can´t stand the way DC has gone about there movie universe, especially starting with abomination MOS.
According to some, including Gail Simone's now deleted tweets, the depiction of Diana in BvS has come out with strong favors. So it's possible WB has settled on the frame of the on-screen Wonder Woman, and Maclaren just couldn't get into that frame with the stuff she wanted to do... which according to Badassdigest included a talking tiger-companion.
The heat. DC should give WW rights to an independent company. That would give us a chance to see more of her instea of aways being compared to this or that character. And more focus on who she is,what she represents and what she stands for instead of seeing some writers afraid of get into her. She is not cancer writers don't worry. Getting into her myth and background that develops around mythology, selfempowerment and equality themes will not kill you.
Yes, lets do like Marvel did with Spiderman and lease her out to some 3rd party thats only going to be interested in how much money they can make on her while churning out rubbish movie after rubbish movie.
@outside_85: what the frick? Talking tige..........who is she, Captain Mar-........err, Shazam!? (eff you johns)
Tiger.... sidekick? It's baffling to think that someone with her impressive resume could think of such bad idea. The Russo Brothers directed Community and they didn't pull that kinda nonsense
She was going to have a sidekick that's a tiger eesssh
Wonder Woman is a mythological character so I'm not entirely sure why a talking-tiger seems so wacky, I could get on board with it provided that the idea's realized well. She used to speak animalese. It's just speculation at this point though

Setting aside the whackiness, the tiger sidekick is Shazam's deal and has been for decades now. I wouldn't want to see that in a Wonder Woman movie, it would lessen the experience of seeing Tawky Tawny in the Shazam film later.
They were probably micromanaging and breathing down McLaren's neck because they don't trust women 100%. Or something like that.

I didn't know Shazam had a talking-tiger for a sidekick, seems like a bit of an odd coincidence
It happens. The movie doesn't come out til 2017, plenty of time to find another. Ant Man lost his director and we'll be seeing him in a few months.
Seems like the editors have been writing the Wonder Woman comic book since Gail Simone left, and the trend is only becoming more pronounced; I've notice a lot of common patterns, irrespective of the writer, since Simone left; although we have a new writer, the Finch(es) run is not that much different from the end of the Azzarello run; only the first issue seemed different. So, this Director wanted to make her own script, couldn't, than decided to leave. The editors should only insist on about 1% of a script or comic be revised so that the writer or director can have their own move or comic book. I don't think Marvel is suffering from the same problem; perhaps even other characters at DC are not suffering this same problem (e.g. I notice the gradual progression in the World's Finest comic book in the way Power Girl's costume has gotten better or back to what we're accustomed to seeing for Power Girl). Wonder Woman really needs an editor to behave like the one who was over Wonder Woman during the Messner-Loebs's and Marston's runs. I'm finding that I'm enjoying the Wonder Woman comic less and less now, since I notice this clear pattern, and this editor's taste is clearly not my taste for a Wonder Woman comic; the issues even extended over into the Superman/Wonder Woman book, soon after Charles Soule had written a comic that I really liked; I notice that a Wonder Woman comic was matching my tastes was never seen again after issue 5, I believe.
You are trying to say what exactlly?. WW is a legendary warrior that stands for truth, equality and justice with a background that moves around mythology and magic. A good writer should be able to respect these basics and make a movie with good balance between the warrior/mythology themes and heart/truth/equality themes.
The 3rd party studio is not going to be interested in getting a good writer or actor if they can settle with a cheap actor and director and still get the same numbers to go see the finished movie.
So tell me, do you seriously want someone like Sony to do to Diana as they've done with Spiderman? I think not.
@sodamyat: That sounds like the article is saying it´s bad for ww which I would agree with. I´m interested in hearing her take. I just wish they didn´t need these films to fit in with eachother. I don´t really see why WEB/DC are blocking themselves in like this. ww is already difficult to adapt now someone has to stick to what zack snyder has decided to come up with in his "dude. Yeah bro. cool. explosion. explosion. massive setpiece. pow. blam explosion. dude more explosions. shaky cam. whoah, that was so cool, like superman totally punched something explosion, yeah dude." Vision of the DC universe. Any way I´m out, until someone proves why they took one of the most talented directors off this project, i´m done, with B v S.-
Movies based on comic books are never more than good to me. I have watched a lot of them and none of them are groundbreaking. So considering the trackrecord of these movies. I can't put my expections so high when there is a chance that i will not get a groundbreaking movie. So i only hope they can at least make a good movie respecting her character and background.
So you have lowered stadards when it comes to superhero movies and would rather they pump out even bad movies as long as it's there for you to watch?
Count me in the other direction, I'd rather wait another year if I have to in order for them to get it right.

apparently her leaving is a good thing
A good thing for McLaren that won't take the fall and get her immaculate name tarnished by a flick that doesn't reflect her creative voice in case it flops but sad news for Wonder Woman that lost the cachet that Michelle McLaren brought to the table.

DC wants WW to have an acclaimed and successful movie. So they will stay away from the critically panned messner-loebs era.
Those are people giving an opinion more than 15 years later and who have gotten into a herd mentality about people recommending the Perez run as a jump on point for Wonder Woman; the people who liked Messner-Loebs run are probably all gone and lost their patience with how DC has been handling Wonder Woman, since each successive writer has slighted Messner-Loebs' run in some way; to point you into something more associated with peoples' real opinion, more people liked the Retro 90s comic by Messner-Loebs than the other Retro comics; no doubt, Messner-Loebs fans flocked back. In reality, I've actually read the most complaints about the Wonder Woman comics over the past 3 years than I'd ever read/heard about the Wonder Woman comics, even though it's supposedly critically acclaimed, although I've only been spotting complaints since April 2009.
I said i expect a good movie not groundbreaking since comic book movies never are groundbreaking. Ity's not hard to make a good WW movie. If it's harder to make a groundbreaking movie, But i think that at least a good movie is within their capability.
But you are expecting a 3rd party to actually make you one rather than the people DC can influence more directly.
@outside_85: Or we could risk staying with DC/WB and getting another atrocious like Green Lantern or Superman Returns. With all the concerns going on, I wouldn't be shocked one bit if this Wonder Woman movie turns out bad. Marvel fans are going to have a field day if DC screws up this time.

First up: Superman Returns was not imagined to be a relaunch, it was actually supposed to be an alternate sequel to the Reeve's movies. And all it did was to show why those old movies suck by todays' standards.
Secondly, yes they do risk a second Green Lantern... like they and every other studio do with every single movie they make, and with this studio being WB, they make a ton of movies a year that is not Green Lantern levels of terrible. So going out of your way to say WW is at risk simply by staying at WB is just silly.
Chill out, peeps. Look who WB got for Flash, Batman (potentially Affleck) and who they are looking at for Aquaman (James Wan of FF7).
Let them work. I mean, as bad as Green Lantern was, the guy who directed Casino Royale and GoldenEye was given the property, it was the script that was minor league.
@somayareece: WB had no say in Superman Returns, Singer didn't let them see it until the movie was set to be released. Believe it or not, WB hired Singer to reboot Superman like they hired Nolan for Batman, but Singer was "inspired" by Reeve's death to make a sequel to honor him.
Unless you forgot, Singer is the same guy who had directed The Usual Suspects, X1 and X2 when WB hired him. Green Lantern failed because WB wanted to be like Marvel, they didn't have a vision for Green Lantern like they have now for their cinematic universe.
Using Green Lantern and Superman Returns as indicative of what WB is capable of is a bit silly.
They know what they're doing now.
@superguy1591: @outside_85: Good for them. If the Wonder Woman movie fails then not my problem. In the meanwhile, I am going to eat popcorn while Marvel fans engulf DC with all types of jokes.
@somayareece: you do that.

And most of us will just shrug and remind them which company was close to file for bankrupsy and in an effort to raise money, sold off the movie making rights to their biggest and most profitable names.

Yes and he's great so Diana needs to back off from the tigers
@saren: i hope they get Kelsey Grammer to voice tawky tawny my god that would be awesome
It's not the end. There are many directors good enough to make a WW film.
YEP! :)
and uhm a tiger? Lol
Yes and he's great so Diana needs to back off from the tigers
That's more like a saber-toothed cat of the largest variety, it's awesome. Korra's polar bear dog aka Naga is also pretty cool in my opinion. Wonder Woman can have a talking minotaur friend though, her private cook used to be a minotaur

At a point, I was really hoping the New 52 Minotaur was going to turn out to be civilized when allowed to interact with people and then take the name Ferdinan.

I was hoping Azzarello would shed some light on that Minotaur, like whose body his head got grafted onto, who did that to him, how did he become so strong and how come his helmet trumped Eros' pistol. What was that helmet made of. That Minotaur was shrouded in mystery

loebs-messner was never an acclaimed era for WW. And it was not her most supported era by fans either.
Sometimes, people let the best opportunities go by. His run got a lot of support at the time and immediately after wards.

I am pretty sure Cassandra captured him and tortured him into being compliant, and then simply had him shaved for some reason. Dunno about the helmet. But regarding his strength, in some versions of the classical myth the Cretan Bull whom the queen fell in love with was actually Zeus in disguise. If that was the case here, the Minotaur would have been a demigod of the same 'rank' as Diana and imbued with powers from Zeus.
