Could she work for any kind of serious take on the character? No. But I could totally see her playing Wonder Woman in a music video, or in a skit on SNL or something. She has a certain whimsical quality that fits well with Diana's more whimsical elements.
Visually? Sure I can see it. But can she act? I honestly dont know. For what its worth, I dont know if Gadot can act either. Basically, im assuming no matter who the studio picks (Gadot in this case) if they picked her, she must be an impressive actress, because they know more about acting then I.
I've seen Katy acting, and know she'd pull it off. People who only know her from music videos and the occasional TV appearance with a hit performance don't know all her abilities and versatility. She is neither manufactured nor without multiple skills and talents. All those who just see her as a sex object and reduce her value to her boobs would be surprised if they knew a bit more about her.

I know her backstory about her uber Christian parents and whatnot and I still think she has a great rack, not to mention talent and catchy pop songs.
