After reading so many of the threads and post about a female Thor , and all the concerns and issues that have been raised amongst comic fans I really questioned why would Marvel make such a move in their comics now. I first became suspicious when I realized that their stated reason for the change were actually lies. First lie , they need more female super heroes , lie , they have dozens of female super heroes , and they have strong leader type characters with Jean Grey , Emma Frost, She Hulk, Ms. Marvel , Rogue, Valkyrie, they even have strong Asgardian female Lady Sif , they even have a strong female that can wield lightning , create storms, hurricanes and tornados , fly , and is a goddess (to some) ....STORM ! So Marvels "reason" is a really big lie.

The second lie is revealed by the way Marvel went about the change. Instead of promoting or building up one of the already popular female super heroes to their own high profile comic , they REPLACE an already high profile male super hero. What !! That isn't anyway to support feminism in the comics , it's just the opposite. The goal of feminist is not to replace men but to be treated as equals and given equal opportunity to use their skills and ideas , NOT to be piggy backed on to or carried by a mans successes. So to try to create more female interest in comics by first destroying a popular long standing male hero and then replacing him with a female is not a way to go about gaining female interest.

So now I look at the bigger picture which includes , Captain America and Ironman, and ex-Thor.

Captain America , in this case Steve Rodgers is having some very nasty things done to him to move him out of the picture, and his replacement is bringing with him some obvious changes , I'm talking about the Falcons' wings. When I saw the Falcon was being put in the role as Captain America , I thought it was really bad what they did to Steve Rodgers , and they could do it another way, but I was also surprised Falcon was keeping his wings. Sure without the wings from a distance he looks like another guy in a Cap suit carrying a shield , yes he's also black but the costume does cover most of his body and face, but those wings now thats a whole new image.

Then there is the new changed up ex-Thor , armor is gone , no helm , no hammer an axe instead , and only one arm. Now that's a big change in looks, but if you don't like him you also have a female version of Thor too and she has both her arms and comes with a Hammer.

And last but not least Ironman with New Armor.

So what do these 4 characters , she Thor , ex-Thor , Captain America and Ironman all have in common ? They all got a dramatic new IMAGE !!!

So in the business this is called re-imaging or re-branding , which leads to remarketing , DING ! Yes with all these new images of Marvels top comic book characters Marvel can now sell new licenses of new toys and games and make more money off essentially the same characters with little to no real work done. Hey do your kids already have Thor/Cap/Ironman toys and games , well guess what thanks to re-imaging they are the Old Thor/Cap/Ironman so now you can buy them all over again , and Marvel gets even more money !!

So there you have it comic fans our favorite super heroes have becomes victims of their own success/popularity.

I guess now what happens to your characters and their story is dependent on how Marvel can market toys and games to kids. When the market is saturated with one image they can just change the equipment , or gender or race to make it a new character , and the comic writers create an appropriate story line for the changes. I'll say it does kinda suck now for Marvel fans that the comic book characters stories are now driven by the guys in the Toys and Games marketing department and not the writers anymore.

For the doubters ...

good try but I think you missed the target. Marvel is under attack by another group. Money is tight and they are trying to get back the characters and some other things from other companies. They had to go to Disney to get them oney to buy back some of the characters they lost. Disney said if you come to us we have some say in your company. Marvel is having their arms twisted and some bad guy at marvel is saying hey make Thor a women , change Steve and Tony Stark is doing to well change him to. Not a damn thing to do with women its about Disney flexing its muscles and being a bully to marvel. Just look at the Avenger group picture right out of some Disney movie. any more purple you would get sic. Some say its the beginning of the death of Marvel comics. Even further they may not even exist as a company at all soon if some groups have their way. The bigger picture is far larger then you think...Even larger still then I can fully see. Just what is the force behind all the changes at marvel company? We will never know till the shit hits the fan. Then people wont care because they will be covered in shit and running for the showers. Trust me wear a rain coat.

Its bound to get ugly.

I thought Marvel was rolling in dough , they have the movie franchises and didn't Disney just buy out Marvel for 4 billion dollars.

it could be that they just want to shock readers so much they leave. Then go and retire to a island and never have to make another comic again lol.

Maybe just maybe they all drank just a little to much at the last company party and have ran out of any idea on what to write.

Hey you cross dressing maid..

... Why does everything need to be turned into some twisted conspiracy theory? Occam's Razor applies here, I think.

Why these changes now? cus that's the story they wanted to tell. The end. And I bet a lot of people will be changing their tune after they actually read it, just like happened with Superior Spider-Man. Do you think replacing him with Doc Ock for a while was a conspiracy to sell licenses, too?

I mean... why would they even want to sell licenses when they make more by keeping it in house? Now that they have the power of Disney behind them, anyway. The licenses were sold to Fox and Sony in an act of desperation when they were facing bankruptcy, that's not the case now. And if Disney was 'twisting their arm' in all this, it wouldn't be THESE characters. Marvel Studios (a subsidiary of Disney) already owns the rights to all characters affected. There is literally nothing to gain here for Disney. If it was possible to win back rights to (a version of) a character simply by radically changing them, they would have done it already. Superior Spider-Man would have meant they could have a MCU Spidey. But the licenses don't work that way, if anyone is doing a Superior Spider-Man movie, it will be Sony. The licenses are distributed by character-family, not individual characters. This is why Quicksilver can appear in both the MCU and Fox's X-Men movies. He belongs to both the X-Men and Avengers family of characters. But Wolverine and Spider-Man don't count because they joined the Avengers after the deal was signed. Sticking them on the Avengers after the fact didn't mean Marvel/Disney was suddenly able to use them. So as you can see, doing all this with the comics accomplishes nothing as far as winning rights back for movies and whatnot. If they sold the rights to Falcap and female Thor, it would mean selling the rights to the originals as well, severely screwing over the MCU. Same goes for toys and whatever, they sell licenses for groups of characters. Also, Tony Stark is still Iron Man, so all licensing remains exactly the same for him, as far as use goes. It's just the armor and the plot of the story that's different, no new characters at all, and the armor design is irrelevant with licensing, unless you seriously believe every new costume a character wears leads to a new licensing deal. I mean, HOW many armor designs has Iron-Man had? So why is THIS one a conspiracy all of a sudden?

I never gave superior spider man a try lol sorry I just like my characters to stay true to whom they are nobody else taking on the rolls it always ends up being the same story just sounding bad. I loved a stronger Captain America when they did that but he still was no Steve and they have so much they can do with his character. He is the perfect leader of the Avengers and I hope they never let somebody else lead the team. Like Professor of kick ass learning for mutants I hope he also stays top dog for mutant learning. It does not make people bad if they choose to pass on reading the female Thor story it just does not appeal to them like every time I tried to read WW and it simply did not grab me as something I liked to read no matter how well they drew her or how great or how strong she became it was not my book. However with a strong male role (Clark Kent AKA Superman) I could see the point and would be willing to buy some of the books.

I like Thor with the hammer , Thor with the honor and pride and classic hero idea.

Not Thor I fell down yet again , Not Thor oh look she is a women. If Thor had been born a women. They would not have named her Thor that is for sure.

"Thor pull that miniskirt down but moooom .." yeah um no

Thor as a Women's name is horrible lame and bad. No offense but if I named my daughter that she would have good reason to look at me later in life and say. You know Johny Cash and the song about Sue...

Yeah um really bad.

Hmm, Disney's corporate masters did this to wring ever more money out of obsessed fans who will (presumably) buy anything bearing their favorite characters' names?

Yes, I agree. I wish it weren't so.

Pretty much this. It's a dangerous and possibly destructive cycle for the business. The only thing keeping it afloat is the live-action films and the interest in the characters for film/television rights. Eventually though people will tire of superhero films. I'm wondering if both DC and Marvel keep relaunching and rebooting their characters for short-term profit, they'll eventually drive away many of their most loyal fans.

It wont matter Marvel/Disney has enough intellectual property they will make all their money off the multi-media sales , Marvel superhero's are going the way of Transformers , He-man , and Smurfs .
