THE WICKED + THE DIVINE Optioned for Television by Universal

THE WICKED + THE DIVINE by Kieron Gillen, Jamie McKelvie, and Matthew Wilson has been nominated for three Eisner's and on top of that, it has just been optioned by Universal Television. According to Deadline, Matt Fraction and Kelly Sue DeConnick will produce the project. Their company Milkfed Criminal Masterminds have a two-year deal with Universal and plan to bring other properties to television as well.

THE WICKED + THE DIVINE, which debuted in June 2014, is about twelve gods returning to Earth as humans. They are loved and hated. It won over fans as critics as one of the best series of the year and one of Image Comics top books. Currently, the series is on issue #10 and a trade has been released of the first five issues.

tonally this makes a lot of sense on Showtime with the glitz glam but if it were on showtime it'd run for 7 seasons and 3 seasons past its expiration date.

Still always curious to see how titles like this and Sex Criminals are handeled in the translation to televson.

God, this book is boring as sh*t

So that's what, a dozen or so books being optioned at this point. How many will actually make it?

Love both comics and hoping they both do well as TV shows.

I still get W&D pulled every month, but for whatever reason it has lost a lot of steam with me over the last 3 or 4 issues. I'm not really vested or even interested in any of the characters. However, I'm glad to see anyone work hard and succeed. So, It's good news to hear that it has been optioned.

Hopefully it comes to TV faster than Preacher comic.

would have preferred a movie but hopefully they can get a big enough budget for the visuals and powers of the gods. and for the sake of goddess please dont americanize it. keep it in the uk with brittish actors

I made this today ( early this morning when i heard the News ) I am super excited , I have been re-reading vol 1 faust act today with glee as I drew this little piece of fan art ( I even tweeted both Gillen & McKelvie ) :D !!!! now my weekend has gotten Better ^_^ ( Squeeeeee!!!!! )

Ever since this series was announced, I was intrigued by the concept. Plus, I will forever be grateful to Kieron Gillen for his Young Avengers run. I've been picking up every issue since its inception, and it hasn't let me down yet. It's a great series and I'm glad it's popular enough to warrant a tv adaptation. I just hope the show can capture the visuals of the comic (especially issue #9, the Dionysus issue).

Pretty cool. What channel are the shows supposed to be on? If it's regular cable I'm pretty sure they won't have the same ooomph as if they were on a Prime cable network. I guess we'll see.
