SDCC 2015: Jay Garrick and Patty Spivot Cast for 'The Flash' Season 2

If you watched the first season of The Flash, you know there was Jay Garrick Easter Egg. There's also been rumblings about Patty Spivot coming on the show. At Comic-Con, it was revealed who would be playing both characters.

• Teddy Sears (Masters of Sex, Raising the Bar) has been cast as Jay Garrick, who is well known to comic book fans as the first DC Comics character to take on the mantle of The Flash. In the TV show, Jay is a mysterious figure who arrives in Central City to warn Barry Allen and his team at S.T.A.R. Labs of an impending danger that he alone cannot hope to stop.

The Flash executive producer Andrew Kreisberg said, “Having Jay Garrick come onto the show was one of our earliest ideas. It is so exciting, as we rush into season two, that we finally get to bring the Crimson Comet to life. We couldn’t imagine anyone more suited to play the original Flash than Teddy.”

• Shantel VanSanten (The Messengers, The Final Destination, One Tree Hill) has been set for the role of Patty Spivot. A more recent addition to The Flash’s comic book history, Patty Spivot is a police officer and science enthusiast who catches the eye of Barry Allen. Patty is obsessed with metahumans and partners with Det. Joe West this season but has no idea that her new crush is The Flash.

“We were huge fans of The Messengers and are excited to have Shantel join us to help complicate Barry Allen’s love life in season two,” said Kreisberg.

A highlight reel of the first season was released.

The Flash returns on Tuesday, October 6, at 8/7c on The CW.

That's a young looking Jay Garrick... But I guess when you're acting alongside Grant Gustin, you can make just about anyone look old beyond their years in comparison.

Plus, we already live in a world with an extraordinarily young Aunt May having been cast, so...

I was hoping they'd cast older for Garrick but o man they gotta do a FLash of Two Worlds episode!

Blue Streaks off of 'Zoom' make me think Cobalt Blue amalgam. But that' smostly because I want crazy circus folk and cursed mystic gems that grant speed for some reason.

Damn. Patty got hot.

@jonsmith: Well the New 52 Jay Garrick is a 21yr old man so CW couldve went EXTREMELY young if they wanted.

At least Teddy looks "man-sized" instead of "boyish".

Teddy Sears is almost like 40 years old, the man isn't THAT young. Not that old either, but he's at least twice Grant Gustin's age.

Marissa Tomei is 50, not exactly young, then again, not exactly old. Her age makes sense given that they're casting a young teenage Peter Parker. When he's a young adult, she'll be about 60, which makes sense. She just happens to age incredibly well.

I guess it depends how far into Jay Garrick's career they're doing this. They could always have him show up again as much older.We also have to consider that if they plan to use some characters for a while, we may want to see them age into the characters, instead of age out of them.

Can't wait for the second season of Flash.

Isn't Jay Garrick supposed to be old?

I was hoping for Jay to just be an old guy who knows what its like to be a super hero and gives Barry advice on life.

Blue streak looks like Future Barry who is darker, more of a no holds vigilante and has killed.

Hmmm, also is that Zoom's/Reverse Flash's voice again, so wait I guess they're doing like current comics separating Reverse Flash from Zoom???

Barry and Jay vs. Zoom and Future Barry? Mind blown lol. Who knows I can't wait!

I don't see any reason in complaining about the actor for Jay being young-ish. Unlike Aunt May, who was always old from the start, when Jay got started he was a young man, not the old hero audiences of this generation are familiar with. If he can portray Jay well enough it'll be fantastic.

I have no idea how you misunderstood me, so I'll address both. If you think I referred to "started" as in his own show, I was referring to his original comic book in the Golden Age. If you think "started" as in Jay isn't going to be in this show at all, then you should know they casted him for him to appear.
