So for a long time now I have prayed to the God of geekdom for a cosmic suoerman story and have to see my prayers answered. So that got me thinking back on any DC cosmic story and a large chunk of them seem to focused on the rainbow of lantern corps in the DCU. So that yet again got me thinking about how awesome a story arc could be made if supes got a blue lantern ring and a story arc with him learning how to use it and fighting some cosmic big bad. Would you guys think that would be something worth reading ?
Would you want a Superman Blue lantern arc ?
It could be fun. Recently, DC has tried quite hard to make Superman less boyscouty and having him interact with blue lanterns could help with that without being too dark and gritty. I don't think that current Superman would share Saint Walker's ideology and methods, so seeing these two work together would be really interesting.
I'd be down. I've had this very idea about superman acquiring a blue ring for a while(have a lot idea for supes). It really would open up cosmic stories, though i guess it's only a fan dream at the moment.
He'll need to be intertwined with Hal more for the arc to work.
Not a lot of Superman and Hal Jordan stories.
@soa: No he's not.
@superguy1591: I don't think Hal need to be in it I mean he is litarerly involved with every lantern story arc at some point so one without him could be good. Also Saint walker I think would be a better co star in an arc like this rather than Hal.
@z3ro180: you need a Green Lantern or the blue ring is pointless.
@superguy1591: Not entirely. It can still perform basic functions such as communication, flight, and a shield.
@mysticmedivh: He's Superman, he doesn't the basics.
He needs to inspire for the arc to have any importance.
It's a good idea.
But your idea sparked a even better one, in my opinion.
Instead of seeing him become a blue lantern or have the various corps fighting to add Superman to their ranks. Why not give Superman a bigger challenge?!
We've seen from the red lantern comics, that at least one new emotional entity has been born, to occupy the void left by the Butcher. What would be great would be to see Superman noticing that some of his emotions were getting heightened. More specifically, his willpower, hope, compassion, love and greed. To the point where he started to notice new powers emerging.
Also at the same time members from the green, blue, indigo, violet and orange corps would be drawn to him.
Superman mind would eventually start to feel the mental weight of whatever was happening to him, only to be revealed at the end that new emotional entities (specifically the ones that are still gone) needed a powerful enough host so they could be born, and because Superman has such a deep emotional variety in him has seen in the Blackest Night, by accident or fate, the new entities for willpower, hope, compassion, love and greed, all chose him.
That to me would be one hell of an arc.

Actually, I think it would be pretty interesting to see Superman show that Hope in itself is a powerful emotion. I know Hope is dependent on Willpower, but to even maintain hope in the face of the overwhelming odds Superman could encounter and continue to believe that you can win, no matter what takes a lot. It could inspire even the Blue Lanterns and give a permanent boost so that their not essentially useless when there are no Green Lanterns around.
Give Superman honorary Blue Lantern status (he gets to keep his ring, but only uses it for certain missions. Otherwise, it's in the FoS.) Give him a new enemy that's all about destroying Hope (also fights The Lanterns, but hates Superman personally.) Would also be a big turning point when Superman starts to realize that he is, indeed, a symbol of Hope, not just for Earth and Humans, but for everyone and everything he can come in contact with. Should weigh on him and make him think more about how he carries himself and what he does.
@scouterv: Okay, write a fan fic about it and send me a link to it.

What?
Sure, I'd read that. Maybe they could create a lantern Justice League spinoff with various heroes getting rings, like Green Lantern Oracle (I know she's batgirl now), Indigo Lantern WW, Yellow Lantern Batman, Star Sapphire Starfire, Red Lantern Red Hood and Orange Lantern Lobo. (Yes, I've had that idea for a while!)
@heavenlydarkdragon: that would be cool but it sounds way to much like what happen to Kyle Rayner when he was becoming the white lantern
Yeah, it's similar. But in the end it's quite different.
After all, Kyle was kinda forced to the whole white lantern thing. But ultimately it stick because he had in him the potential to become a white lantern.
But Superman on the other hand, would not be able to handle it for long. In the end either with the help of the new guardians or with members of each corp, the entities would be removed.
And that would be the end of it. No collateral effects like he becoming a white lantern.
While he had the entities inside him and they grow, what we could see was something similar to what happened to Superboy-Prime when he absorbed the energies of the Oan guardian.
@mysticmedivh: nothing, I'll try to fan-fic it.
@saintwildcard: true but it wasn't blue :)
@2cool4fun: it was that or avarice. i do not really see him as a death kinda dude (like thanos) so that was a nay. lol
Id like to see Supes with a green lantern ring. A lot of times, he becomes depowered before these sorts of arcs, but I want full power Supes with a green ring.
@2cool4fun: eh?
