Poll: Which is a better Superman story Red Son or All Star Superman? (69 votes)

Red Son 25%
All Star Superman 75%

I want to get a Superman story and i'm having trouble picking, i've heard great things about both and i'd like to know which is a better story?

hard to tell. i would go with all star superman, cause this is the silver age superman and noz an elseworld story. don't get me wrong, red son is one of the best superman storys, but all star just captures the spirit of him perfectly.

I have to say All Star Superman. And just because of this ONE scene.

This one scene makes this the best Superman story. The rest is gravy. Ridiculously good, delicious, gravy.

Though for the life of me I can't determine that kid's gender. 'Regan' would imply male, but all the make up and piercings implies female...

Both are essential Superman stories. But I'd go with All Star Superman. Its as close to a perfect Superman story as I can think of. Really good stuff.

However you should pick up Red Son as well when you get the chance as its fantastic too.

I gotta agree with everyone else. Both - but if you HAVE to choose, All Star first, then Red Son on your next chance.

Best story is: Whatever Happened to the Death of All Star Kingdom Come from Soviet Russia of Steel for All Seasons - aka Secret Birthright of Earth One.

All Star Superman. And not because of that one scene (even though it is one of the best Superman moments ever) but because the whole thing is a rich, emotionally resonant story that uses the entire Superman mythology and explores what it is that makes Superman who he is.

In that case there is no simple choice, like that better or other. This two story fundamentally different, but almost equally awesome.

All Star Superman to me not some elseworld story, its compressed awesomeness of Superman’s legacy, perfect blend of his most noble personality traits and deeds plus some SA good-natured silliness.

Superman Red Son is one of most enthralling and successful Superman’s else worlds. Its story of superhuman who don’t have human alter ego, who don’t fully connected or understand humanity, yet still try to do what best for them and what result of superhuman taking political activity in his own hands in modern world. If you like gritty world, tough characters, moral-challenging choices and war of ideas and ideology, then its Red Son for you.

In my collection of not-mainstream Superman’s stories, I have 3 clear winners: Kingdom Come, All Star Superman and Superman Red Son.

All Star Superman focused a lot on the character. Red Son, though I liked the story, featured the same stiff Superman from the regular comics only in a gimmick setting, ex: communist Russia.

Wow, it seems I am the minority here with my preference of Red Son over All Star.

All star is my favorite Supes story of all time. Red son was cool though

Red Son was more enjoyable to me. All-star was good but its not my favorite superman story

I enjoyed both, but I liked the creativity of Red Son better. Although All Star was great, I've read only All Star once but reread Red Son multiple times.

Red Son Superman is a fantastic story starring Superman, but it's a twist on the iconic representation, so I'm not sure I'd call it any sort of "definitive" superman story. Plus, All-Star is just perfect. Gets the tone exactly right.

I will always view All Star Superman as the 'real' Superman. For me, it was a perfect depiction of him.

While Red Son is not a definitive Superman story (mainly because it is an Else worlds) , it is still to me a better Superman Story than All Star. So if me I'm with the minority that think Red Son is better.

All Star Superman

Well I'm conflicted on this one. As far as I'm concerned All Star Superman is THE definitive Superman story and is my favorite Superman story of all time. I even use it to convince people once and for all the Superman is not lame or some idiot that only knows how to punch stuff. It has everything you could ever want in a Superman story and also show cases THE definitive Superman. While I site Kal-L from the Golden Age as my favorite version of Superman, All Star Superman is what I always picture when I think Superman because he embodies everything Superman SHOULD be and is what writers should strive to imitate as best they can.

However Superman Red Son is also a favorite story of mine. I love alternate historical stories and Red Son is a doosy. It does an excellent job of not portraying Superman as the bad guy nor as a good guy either and the same can be said for Lex Luthor in the story as well. Just as with the real life Cold War, there was a lot of grey areas and the comic reflected that perfectly. And if you haven't read it yet, then it has one of the best twist endings I've ever seen!

In all honesty you would greatly enjoy either. I suggest All Star Superman first and then Red Son, just because it's a great story.

The right answer is the story which superman dipped into the sun and regnite it.
Hint : It's not Red Son

but for a newbie i think red son would be more appropriate

all star superman definitely but red son is a great book. its fun to read comics out of canon like red son (has a nice ending twist too).

All Star Superman.Maybe my favorite Superman story ever that just shows the readers who Superman is and what makes SUperman who he is.An amazing story and one of the best things from Morrison ever.

#24 Posted by spinningbirdcake (1430 posts) - - Show Bio

Yeah other people have said it. Red Son is a good Superman story, and just a good story in general. All Star Superman defines the character in the best way possible.

#25 Posted by Z3RO180 (6433 posts) - - Show Bio

I've not read Red Son but All Star Superman is by far the best Superman comic and DC comic I've ever read in my comic read carrier.

#30 Posted by ComicStooge (12481 posts) - - Show Bio

I honestly prefer Red Son. I think All-Star is kinda overated.

All Star is the Better Superman story.

Ive said it once and Ill say it again, Red Son is the Best Lex Luthor story every. Anyone who thinks we've had Lex Luthor in the movies too much needs to read this book and see that we really haven't had a real Lex Luthor.

ALL Star Superman is his best story, and one of the best stories in comics.

#35 Posted by ArturoCalaKayVee (11323 posts) - - Show Bio

All Star Superman. Red Son Superman was a great story but every time I reread All Star it reminds me why I first started idolizing Superman.
