I have to say All Star Superman. And just because of this ONE scene.
This one scene makes this the best Superman story. The rest is gravy. Ridiculously good, delicious, gravy.
Though for the life of me I can't determine that kid's gender. 'Regan' would imply male, but all the make up and piercings implies female...
All Star Superman. And not because of that one scene (even though it is one of the best Superman moments ever) but because the whole thing is a rich, emotionally resonant story that uses the entire Superman mythology and explores what it is that makes Superman who he is.
In that case there is no simple choice, like that better or other. This two story fundamentally different, but almost equally awesome.
All Star Superman to me not some elseworld story, its compressed awesomeness of Superman’s legacy, perfect blend of his most noble personality traits and deeds plus some SA good-natured silliness.
Superman Red Son is one of most enthralling and successful Superman’s else worlds. Its story of superhuman who don’t have human alter ego, who don’t fully connected or understand humanity, yet still try to do what best for them and what result of superhuman taking political activity in his own hands in modern world. If you like gritty world, tough characters, moral-challenging choices and war of ideas and ideology, then its Red Son for you.
In my collection of not-mainstream Superman’s stories, I have 3 clear winners: Kingdom Come, All Star Superman and Superman Red Son.
Well I'm conflicted on this one. As far as I'm concerned All Star Superman is THE definitive Superman story and is my favorite Superman story of all time. I even use it to convince people once and for all the Superman is not lame or some idiot that only knows how to punch stuff. It has everything you could ever want in a Superman story and also show cases THE definitive Superman. While I site Kal-L from the Golden Age as my favorite version of Superman, All Star Superman is what I always picture when I think Superman because he embodies everything Superman SHOULD be and is what writers should strive to imitate as best they can.
However Superman Red Son is also a favorite story of mine. I love alternate historical stories and Red Son is a doosy. It does an excellent job of not portraying Superman as the bad guy nor as a good guy either and the same can be said for Lex Luthor in the story as well. Just as with the real life Cold War, there was a lot of grey areas and the comic reflected that perfectly. And if you haven't read it yet, then it has one of the best twist endings I've ever seen!
In all honesty you would greatly enjoy either. I suggest All Star Superman first and then Red Son, just because it's a great story.
All Star is the Better Superman story.
Ive said it once and Ill say it again, Red Son is the Best Lex Luthor story every. Anyone who thinks we've had Lex Luthor in the movies too much needs to read this book and see that we really haven't had a real Lex Luthor.
