Krypton TV Series Announced for Syfy

Are you ready for another new comic book TV show? It's been a while since we've had a new announcement. It appears that Syfy will be getting their own superhero-ish show, Krypton.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the show will take place on Krypton long before Superman was born and the planet was doomed to blow up. When does this take place?

This drama, which is in development, follows the Man of Steel's grandfather as he brings hope and equality to Krypton, turning a planet in disarray into one worthy of giving birth to the greatest Super Hero ever known.

The network is getting David Goyer to develop the show along with Ian Goldberg (Once Upon a Time, FlashForward) to writer and produced, alongside Goyer.

Since show is in development, no word on when we might hear about casting or see a pilot happen.

Thoughts? Will people go for a show that doesn't feature any of the actual Superman characters we know?

BARF, I can easily see this being like Gotham ignoring the lore and adding characters that shouldn't be there. I'll give it a watch though maybe it'll prove me wrong.

Uh, cool? I remember hearing rumors of this, and SyFy apparently is trying to get back into the good swing of things so perhaps it'll be good. Optimism!

This sound cool. I will love to see more of Kryptonian culture and society, how it lead to war among themself, how it will lead to destruction of Planet Krpton, the animals of Krypton such as Kryptonian Dragon etc

@feartheliving: to be honest Krypton TV show sound more cooler than Gotham. I mean it just like sci fi and it takes place on planet outside earth which is Krypton

Also my theory is right. Looks like under Geoff Johns management, DC will put atleast one of their related tv show on every tv channel

@feartheliving: what are you talking about? What lore are are you talking about. The comics has never gone in the history of krypton before Jor-el so obviously the syfy writers get to start from scratch.

I mean in relation with Gotham (this is superman version of Gotham not very original). It almost seems like a joke.

Nope. I'll give this a solid pass. Syfy is an awful network and we're already getting another Kryptonian character show in Supergirl. Seems unnecessary.

@holyserpent: I'm referring to characters making an appearance before their time not what should actually be there.

Like Gotham having a lot of characters being 30-40 while Bruce twelve when they should be around his age. Other wise Batman would be fighting a bunch of geriatric villains when he actually became Batman.

In more exciting news, Geoff Johns tweeted that they're filming the Titans pilot next year.

Sounds like a pretty interesting idea actually. Like the Krypton prologue to Man of Steel mixed with Caprica.

If they make Krypton look anything like it did in MOS I am in! My reaction to MOS was very mixed but damn did I love their imagining of Big Blues home world.

A Jor-El themed show could be good. I mean "Alphas" was on SyFy and it was alright. And maybe we'll see Kara! <3

Goyer and SyFy were made for each other. Predicting this is going to be terrible, and it isn't unwarranted pessimism..just look at what they both produce.

I wonder if there will be a time travel episode or any hints at Krypton's future.

I wonder why DC wants to have a show on each network, instead of just building universes by leveraging the brands available to them through their parent company.

It's not about Jor-El it's about Supes' Grandfather.

PASS! I was happy with Smallville, don't need to see another Superman origin story.

That, and I never said I wasn't going to watch it. I'm still watching Gotham and I dislike a lot of that show.

Why? This honestly sound unnecessary, it basically centres around supporting characters that most people don't care(even know) about.

If done right, this could be extremely cool. But it's that first clause that can be oh so tricky.

Well to be fair Batman does already fight the mentally ill so I wouldn't be surprised to see him knock out an old lady.

Gosh, what do you think the odds are that ancient Krypton will just look like a slightly more futuristic Earth and will feature near-constant references to Superman and his allies and enemies?
