@squalleon I'd have to disagree. Although, the thing about graphic novels or.... "combined" comic books (I'm not quite sure what to call it right now), is that it tends to repeat itself a lot. What with having to share the same story between 3 different series (Superman, Supergirl, Superboy), it dragged on quite a bit one it was 2/3rds of the way in. I found the parts with Superman and Supergirl to be very interesting, as well as Superman's comic's artist sporting very unique panels, artwork and colours.
Well, I guess that “H’el on Earth” is ok reading material – it’s not an awesome story, but neither it has “Lobdelness” at its worst. Kenneth Rocafort’s art is one big plus though – personally I would have bought this story only because of art.

Anyway I still find H'el on Earth, meh. Why would you spend money on that, rather than al those wonderful Superman stories that exist out there.
The characterazation was poor and Lobdell dumbed down the characters (especially Supergirl) for his plot to advance and when the plot was advancing it was out of panel(how did H'el took over the fortress), why spend so many issues on fights and pocket dimensions instead of the actual plot. Since it is a crossover the art and story are very inconsistant. The dialogue was sometimes cheesy as hell or forced depending the issue and who was writing it. H'el was never a compelling villian! A good villian would make you question him, there wasn't a reason to feel invested or interested in H'el, now that is bad because the writer clearly wanted us to like H'el to make his actions feel excused.Plus the ending felt so flat. Not to speak about characters, that even if they weren't in the story nothing would have changed.
I enjoyed H'el on Earth. It wasn't a masterpiece, but then how often to we get those in comic books anyways. Not spectacular, but enjoyable. H'el is crazy powerful and it really delivers in showing Superman pushing his strength to its limits.

@squalleon: You basically covered what I meant - the art is inconsistent because its between several different artists and writers, and it was sort of drawn out and repetitive. I agree with @reactor, just because it isn't perfect doesn't mean it isn't worth it. Plus I wanted to read a New 52 Superman story (and lets face it, he isn't one of their best sellers for a reason right now).

If you want to read a New 52 story then, you should read Grant Morrison's run, Pak's run, Snyder's Unchained before you read the mediocre story that is H'el on earth.

Yep.... but he really f**ked up H'el with that second appearance. I liked what his origins and the reveal but it was a horrible story
The H'el On Earth saga was one of the best I've seen in Superman comics for quite some time.
Not only that, he was a character that showned the true potential of every kryptonian. He was what superman could be if he wanted to be, in terms of power.
And both his motives and origins were quite surprising. But to know the whole story, H'el On Earth isn't enough. You'd need to also buy Krypton Returns.
