The super senses are usually overdone and unbelievable, and the range just depends on the whims of the writers.

Depends on the writer. Sometimes he's hearing Kyle Rayner's cry for help from outside the solar system even though sound doesn't travel in space, sometime he's hearing every pin drop on Earth.
