Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr reported as New SUPERMAN Creative Team [Update]

It seems there aren't many secrets left in the world of comics. While we're still waiting for the official announcement from DC, which was teased yesterday on DC's site and YouTube channel. In the video, we saw Dan DiDio and Geoff Johns mention a "major announcement" coming but the video is cut short. Bleeding Cool reported that it is Geoff Johns and John Romita Jr on SUPERMAN.

The site even had screenshots of Romita Jr talking to DiDio and Johns. We'll update when DC officially confirms and gives more details.

It's been officially confirmed/announced on DC All Access. They will be the creative team on SUPERMAN this summer.

Geoff Johns: "We've been talking about Superman now for quite a while and it's going to be a blast."

John Romita Jr: "This is going to be interesting. Very interesting. I'm actually a little intimidated seeing how many great artists have done his images before. This is not an easy thing to sail smoothly through."

Really odd time to announce this, Why didn't Johns take the book over for Superman's huge 75th anniversary?

Since I only have a set amount of comics I can read I might drop Justice League to check out the first storyline, but I fear like every other Superman title and I will be disappointed.

Why all the Romita hate? Loved his fathers work, and absolutely LOVED his work on Spider-Man. Who's to say he won't do another iconic character justice?

Hooray for Geoff Johns but boo for Romita Jr... Romita Jr. has had some really good showings but none that I have seen recently. The Man Without Fear with Miller and Romita Jr was amazing and I actually liked his art but it seems like he is rushed most of the time and it really shows. His art looks lazy to me most of the time. Maybe, just maybe, he will bring his A game here and prove me wrong but I hope he only lasts an arc and then they can pair a good artist with Johns.

This is pretty big news. With a couple of exceptions on indie titles, Romita JR has always worked for Marvel. I wonder if he is DC exclusive now? I hope not because it doesn't seem to be the most stable working environment for most creators these days.

It would be pretty funny if this was just for an Adventures of Superman arc

Given how unreliably Johns has portrayed Superman in the New 52 thus far and how poor Romita Jr's artwork has been in his recent works, this isn't the kind of news I feel inclined to get so excited about. So I probably won't be picking up Superman for a while longer. Still, at least Johns will be better for Superman than Lobdell ever could be.

I don't hate Romita's art but he is so hit or miss. His ASM was good,his Captain America was rediculously bad. So I will have to wait and see.
And I prefer a story with mediocre art and good story rather than the opposite.

I actually really enjoyed Romita Jr's stint on Remender's Cap. And I loved Geoff Johns on Superman. I'm looking forward to this!

Well I'm looking forward to this Romita Jr is a good artist and I for one are going to be getting this.

Love it! JR Jr. absolutely killed it on Captain America last year and I've been waiting for a non kick-ass series ever since. Also Johns is my favorite Superman writer, this is gonna be awesome!

Awesome! This will replace Superman Unchained on my pull list when it ends. I've always enjoyed Geoff Johns stories and I'm sure he won't disappoint on this.

1.) cant agree dean white saved much of that series, and still made it look better than jrjr's work in general, praying they get a similar colorist on this new series

Excited for Johns, not so much for Romita jr. Used to really like his work, but his art on Cap was just so meh. Still looking forward to it

Haha. I was hesitant to post this when I first saw it early early today. But I decided to go with it and update when it's official.

Well, thank goodness. Lobdell's run has been inconsistent at best.

After seeing JRJR's run on Captain America I. CAN'T. WAIT.

YES It will, I asked earlier some time if people liked to see a JRJR Superman, and well.... a resounding NO happened. But I liked Geoff Johns Superman so hopefully this works out.

Im really trying to think of something good that came out from Lobdell's run, there is actually nothing. this is good news

I'll just be sitting over here continuing to be flabbergasted by how much people seem to dislike JRJr.

All in all, I've enjoyed all of the Superman stuff by Johns I've read, so I'm on board with this.

Hard to argue with this logic, mon ami. The only times I've even casually enjoyed JR Jr's art was on Thorion and the New Asgods, Thor (Post-Heroes Reborn), and that character SHOC's design.

On Superman though.... I don't even know what to think...
