DC To Cancel Superman/Batman and Superman/Wonder Woman?

According to Bleeding Cool, these two titles are speculated to be on the chopping block when we approach Rebirth. No verification yet other than two titles are definitely going, we just don't know if it's these two.

If so, there probably will be a trinity book on the cards for better synergy with the climax of Dawn of Justice

It's only a rumour right now so take with a pinch of salt for now. I wouldn't be surprised if this turns out to be true though, Superman/Wonder Woman has suffered a lot of sales loss and negativity against the relationship, rightfully so IMO. It'd be no loss to lose SM/WW from DC's line up and have a Trinity comic replace it instead. I expect Batman/Superman might be relaunched, though without Pak as the writer moving from the Superman line in DC according to his Newsarama interview on his upcoming Teen Titans stint.

Who've been accurate before. People don't like to admit that bit though.

Hope they do cancel these. I think team ups should be a rare and special thing where the heroes and their supporting casts all get together and we see some new dynamics. A regular book kinda kills that I feel.

I don't really want SM/WW gone. I've only got two trades. I'd like a third. I haven't kept up on BM/SM.

The way that I see it is that they are putting it on hold because Superman's own titles are suffering. He's been getting outsold in his own series some months by SM/WW and IIRC, American Alien. If this is true, they are consolidating the effort so that maybe Superman's title series becomes more solo material for him, and more focus to get some quality for him individually.

IDK, but Batman/Superman seems to diminish Superman to make Batman look good. Don't get me wrong, I like Batman as a character, but I am a little fatigued at Crossovers between him being regular. Plus, there's also the issue of Superman being demonstratably better and taking on Zod himself.

It's the other way round actually, Superman titles outsell SM/WW, it's consistently been the weakest selling Superman ongoing title for a long time.

Damn, I hope they don't cancel SM/WW, I really like their relationship.

I can see why. One is redundant and the other struggles in quality and sales.

When it comes to Superman they have a great success rate. They predicted Lee/Snyder Unchained, JRJR on Superman along with Johns, Truth almost half a year before actual release and months before announcements.

They have been way more right than wrong.

As long as they publish good monthlies, I have no problem with it.

And I heard the biweekly are gonna be the filler/event titles. So it is a necessary evil for the monthlies to not be contaminated from editorial hindering. Which is good, especially for Superman.

I like Superman/Wonder Woman but Batman/Superman was terrible. I think that was one of the first books I dropped.

@squalleon: I really don't think Superman, Batman and Trinity will be filler books.

they only split up because Clark lost his powers, they both still have feelings for one another. Also with the new way DC writes their stories, they don't need to follow continuity they can simply tell a new story from the time they were still together.

@ht003: I just hated how DC made Clark an ungrateful bastard. Let's see, he treated everyone who tried to help him like s$;&3 after losing his powers. Who up in DC approves of that?

At this point I don't really care, now it seems to be the sole purpose of New52 B/S and S/WW is just to make crossovers.

Diana still loves Steve and they almost kissed in Darksied War, Steve later told Clark he had come to terms with them being together...that is, before Clark dumped her, so he probably thinks she's fair game again.

I don't really care if these rumors are true or false, I haven't been impressed with any Superman story in a long time and this goes way back pre 52. I've dropped all Superman books and I don't see myself picking them up if they revert back to doing crossovers and go back to the status quo. At this point and I have been for a while more excited in else worlds story wether it's animated of graphic novel. This relaunch won't do much for DC in terms of sales, Superman has been selling between 40k to 60k for a long time because there isn't any progress with this character anymore that hasn't been told and it will continue to be like this.

@nerevarine_11: True, but DC has had tons of leaked information over time. I am just personally tired of all the plots in DC that go nowhere. It would be cool to see Superman re-earn trust from his supporting cast rather than have an easy retcon, as just one example.

I like the idea of having a trinity book instead of SM/BM SM/WW.

That and having it be its own stories while Superman and/or Action comics have their own.

Exactly. Someone said in this thread that Super Man could be set in the past, like during the 40's, a have a more realistic and serious tone. I think that could be great.

While not return to their former partners, I take it, especially with Steve(with lois, I be able to overcome), he has been an interloper who has been waiting for it to end that relationship... Now Darkseid War ... Steve to take ownership .. Now the Special will be to kidnap. a chapter all to... Stupid Character..

Based on BC, they will be the books the crossovers and events will take over. Instead of hurting the monthlies the editorial mandates will influence the bi-weeklies.

That also means more crossovers and events...hurrah, sigh.

But it does have a selling point since Dawn of Justice essentially is a promotion for it.

@rustyroy: as opposed to a BM/SM book? All and all I agree there's not much point but I'm glad BM/SM and SM/WW are ending. These team up books aren't my thing. Maybe if they were miniseries it would be ok but not as ongoing.

The minute SM/WW get cancelled a whole lot of people on this forum are going to say it was awesome, same thing happened with Superior Spiderman
