The Jaden Rumor

I'm sure you've all heard the rumor that Jaden Smith has been cast as Virgil Hawkins/Static. In this post I'm going to give my reasons why I think that Jaden Smith does not fit the role and why I would seriously consider someone else.

1. The look. At the expense of sounding like an over the top fanboy (I admit to being somewhat of a fanboy), I don't think he has the right look to play Virgil. Virgil has been drawn to look dark-skinned with either a messy afro or dreadlocks. Yes, Jaden has dreadlocks but they don't look like typical dreadlocks that would allow him to blend in with most of the other young guys you see with them. One thing I could give him though is that he could probably pull off the physique.

2. Sense of humor. One of Virgil's most prominent characteristics is that he has a great sense of humor. From what I've seen in Jaden's interviews his sense of humor seems a little too dry to play a character with a sense of humor as colorful as Virgil's. Maybe if his sense of humor was more like his dad's he could possibly work in that sense.

3. Personality. I don't think that his personality fits with Virgil's. Keep in mind I know we're talking about a fictional character here but I would like someone that when giving an interview has the charisma to draw people to a show. I'm not saying Jaden has no charisma but I would like to see someone that can give an interview and people that know the character can think "I can definitely see him as that character."

4. Fan Interest. We've all seen the reaction the reaction to Michael B. Jordan playing Johnny Storm. We've seen the Fantastic Four bomb at the box office which I think was in part (as small as it may have been) due the reaction of the casting. There's been a lot of negative reaction to the rumor of Jaden being cast as Static and the last thing I would like to see is my favorite character being blamed and failing because of people being put off because of the choice of the actor portraying him. We all saw what happened in the New52 title with the alleged editor interference.

I would like to note that I seem to recall one of the people of Milestone 2.0 saying that they haven't made any casting decisions yet so this is still as far as we know just a rumor. With that being said my problems with this potential casting are not due to who his father is or how he got into the industry as I am a big fan of Will Smith and also a fan of Jaden.

Also I know I'm late in posting this topic but just wanted to discuss something about Static while waiting for some more news.

What are you all's thoughts about this list and what do you think about this potential casting?

@statfan201: Honestly I would like Tyler James Williams play Virgil Hawkins/Static, Everybody hates Chris reminds me a lot of Static for some reason.

The only person who could play Virgil is a fictional actor invented from my imagination. Yes, my standards are that high. Fight me.

Yeah I'm against it and Jaden doesn't have a good record of successful movies to go by either. Last movie I liked of his was karate kid

I think he has the look and the fan base/interest to make a successful movie.

Seems like an easy movie to make with guaranteed success.

He lives in the DC universe. Put the League posters on his wall. Follow the cartoon storyline(it's pretty much the same as the comic in the start but more importantly it's the reference point the Google crowd cies). Normal dude turned hero. Sometimes bullied(bullied into bein at the Big Bang) but mostly just a normal fun loving guy with his friends.

Could mention or start right after his mother's death. Between that and the League he looks up to(probably don't even mention them) he wants to be a hero.

Joyful flying through the city on his disk.

Clinging crooks.

Making his costume.

Noticing some people like him.

Wants to help.

Some attack out of fear, others enjoy the power.

Hotstreat appears and the big battle ensues. Beats the baddie and maybe later to Richie says how it felt good to finally handle their bully from earlier(make sure Hotstreak is seen in jail to not have any mixed messages. But it's good moment for audiences)

Ebon could make an appearance or teased for a sequel....shot you could even tease Longshadow/Edurado/Sam. Ebon harder to take down. He got an small army of willing and enslaved metas, besides being Ebon.

@kasino: I thought milestone comics took back ownership of the character? Does dc have the rights to use him on the bigscreen?
