What do you guys think is more insulting to the Spiderman character Spiderman 3 Emo dancing Spiderman, or The 'Not So' Amazing Spiderman pretty boy hipster Spiderman that skateboards?
@paperdemon: I'm on the fence with it though, they should have made him dark and depressed and they should have made him an asshole from the Venom, but they took it way to far. But TASM just didn't stay true to the character.
You know what's insulting to the character, the way all the companies treat him by not allowing him to evolve beyond being a loser. They never want him to have a steady job or be an adult with a house or anything. He was a mold breaker in his first appearance, but unfortunately all these companies think about is the "everyman" thing. Sure people can relate when things don't go their way, but everything turns to crap around Peter all the time. He shouldn't have things go right all the time, but they need to let him win sometimes too, otherwise he comes off as a guy who should be pitied instead of a hero people can look up to. Spider-Man 3 isn't a Spider-Man movie it's a parody, and Amazing Spider-Man tried to be Batman Begins, so it didn't work as a Spidey film. Spider-Man 1 and 2 were okay, but I felt Tobey didn't have the fun of Spider-Man. He was always depressed and everything went to hell for him; he never seemed to enjoy being Spider-Man at all.
The dancing emo Spidey from Spider-Man 3 for sure...i mean i understand the symbiote makes him a darker character but darker doesn't mean weird....and that dance scene was pretty...weird.
@jasonhawke: No it's not. He's supposed to grow as a character all the time and face change. What makes you think he has to be a miserable failure all the time?
I guess "pretty boy hipster" is worse. Emo Peter didn't last that long. Also, the skateboarding made part of the movie feel a little dated, and it only came out a year ago! Skateboarding reached its pinnacle back in, what, the '90s?
Does anyone in this thread know what a hipster dresses like? Because, it's not like this.
Compare the two. If you still think he looks like a hipster, then I guess you have deficient eyes.
no one knows what a hipster is, just like people still throw the word emo around when someone shows the SLIGHTEST bit of emotion. People online just jump on the improper out of place word usage wagon. The way he dressed in the movie was odd ....wow the awkward teenager that no one likes is dressing odd further making him socially awkward ? Well that doesn't make any sense at all!
as for the way he looks, no one ever called him flat out ugly in the comics, in fact I have seen people say he cleans up nice.

Or maybe he had to chase a bus down like in the original movie? Seriously...who cares how the kid gets to school or not. It had literally 0 impact on the story.

funny thing is, he wasn't even shown riding the skateboard until after he got his powers...he could have very well just been a nerdy kid who thought learning how to skateboard was cool but didn't actually know how. Like most people who do it, and play the guitar, and start bands...

@mrgreenlantern: I also saw a scan of him in a t shirt and blue jeans, and a hoodie and blue jeans. Seems the way he dresses isn't consistent in the "hipster" ways, seems he just dresses the way he wants.
@w0nd: in the photo i posted if you pay close attention you can see his socks match his shoes, shoes match the pants not to mention the rolled up ankles, and why wear one long sleave shirt only to cover it with a tshirt?
in the photos you posted i see 2 jackets that look older than the actor...hes trying to look cool while making it seem like he just tossed that on in a minutes notice =p
