STAN LEE reacts to SPIDER-MAN being bi-sexual
@bloodtalon: @thespideyguy: I think I heard something about Andrew Garfield suggesting it and making MJ a guy. Might be wrong though.
@bloodtalon: @thespideyguy: Andrew Garfield suggested making Spider-man bi in the movie. It never happened.
I don't have any problem with Spider-man being Bi I have a problem with Peter Parker being Bi. Its never been hinted at in canon and isn't a part of his character. If we have another guy under the mask who is bi or gay then fine as its a part of said characters lore.
I woudn't want to see Peter Parker Bi anymore than I would like to see Midnighter or Batwoman go straight. It just cheapens the whole thing.
Haven't watched the vid yet i'll check it out when I get back.

Why would they do that? It wouldn't sell as well.
What do you expect from someone old enough to have bought the first Captain America and Superman comics?
@jonny_anonymous: Stan Lee helped create Spiderman and him not liking Spiderman being Bi is perfectly acceptable. Peter Parker has never... never been said to be bi and would make no sense for his character.
It'd be the same if they wanted Spider-Man to suddenly start killing his villains, or not be called
"Spider-Man" anymore. It's messing with the character, and it makes no sense whatsoever.
@strider92: @guttridgeb: thank you both for answering my question.
and I agree with Strider92's hole post.
I think the actor that said he was going to be bi was just kidding. People just have an overwhelming need to take everything seriously these days.
@vercingetorixthegreat: so you think it's ok for him to be that offended by a bi Peter that he would make phone calls so that it would never happen? You think that's acceptable? You think he did the same thing when they decided yo have a black Spider-Man?
@cybrilious4: you realise he dates the girl who plays Gwen in real life?

Well I think his reaction is out of more dumbfounded shock then anything. I think when he said he would make a few phone calls he is reacting to them changing his long standing character from straight to newly found bisexual for no real reason other than the actor wanted to think what if. So before anyone says I am homophobic because I agree with Stan, I feel that companies need to stop changing long standing character's sexuality to attempt to help a cause to me that is pandering and that helps no one. You cannot have a character and define everything about him by whom he or she sleeps with and they do this when they just switch a character.
Also Stan Lee created Black Panther so I doubt very much he is racist and most of the X-men came from the civil rights movement.
@jonny_anonymous: there's a black spider woman or something, so yea.
Back to the topic, That's like creating a character you wanted to be the guy next door x girl next door, only to find out by another story teller he's actually gay (or bi for that matter).
@sheenlantern: Look who's talking....
@guardian_of_gravity: age is no excuse. Plenty of old folks actually have no issue with it compared to younger people.
But i don't see Peter as having any feelings towards men. He's never shown it before.
@cybrilious4: Perhaps it could be considered mute. I know things like that happen a relative married his husband and he had a daughter from a previous marriage but he said he always knew he was gay just did not want to admit it. It's sad but maybe that is why there are certain cases like this society puts an element of shame towards being gay.
With that said it still does not help the general public if you take a character that has been around for 50 years and say well he or she is gay. You then put an emphasis on the character's sexuality and what does that teach people? Sexuality is important and you should judge off of it? something that is wrong to do, That was more or less my point
I don't see why you some of you are attacking him. He created the character. If he doesn't want his character to be represented as bisexual, there's no reason why he shouldn't complain about it. I'm sick of characters' sexualities being changed for the sake of appealing to the gay community. I'm not homophobic or anything, but... Alan Scott?? And now Peter Parker? It doesn't need to be made.

I do.
Firstly, Garfield was joking.
“To speak to the idea of me and Michael B. Jordan getting together, it was tongue in cheek,”saidThe Amazing Spider-Man 2 actor. “Absolutely tongue in cheek. It would be illogical for me in the third movie to be like, ‘You know what? I’m kind of attracted to guys.’ That’s just not going to work. It’s clear. It was just more a philosophical question.”
However, Garfield then reaffirmed his, and Spidey’s, support for the LGBT community:
“What I believe about Spider-Man is that he does stand for everybody: black, white, Chinese, Malaysian, gay, straight, lesbian, bisexual, transgender. He will put himself in harm’s way for anyone. He is color blind. He’s blind to sexual orientation and that is what he has always represented to me.”
Secondly, I'm pretty sure Stan Lee's not a homophobe, and was joking. Because... y'know. X-men. Or the fact that he explicitly made a gay superhero once. Or just... pretty much the entirety of Marvel's philosophy on how anyone can be a hero and stuff.
But who knows. Maybe I'm just the one person in this thread who isn't taking sh*t seriously enough, as opposed to the other way around.
@markies: I'll admit Lee is very forward thinking for a man of his time but I wouldn't be surprised if he had some prejudices.
That being said, people screwing with his character is bound to rustle his jimmies. Understandably so.
@jonny_anonymous: Given Lee's often trollish sense of humor...

what he said haha
He says "one sex is enough for anybody" its pretty clear what his stance on bi people is
He doesn't swing.

Oh yes, because I swear like a sailor and make references to sex acts all the time, don't I?
I wouldn't mind if we started see more comic book heroes who were bi, or gay. Comic books are suppose to have reflective elements of society's problems. Its not 1940's anymore so obviously we can't have all our heroes fighting Nazi's?
I say why not make a hero that is bi or gay or whatever. I don't know that Spiderman is necessarily the first one to do it on screen with, but its still a great idea.
Besides, unless they literally had the sexuality defining the character's persona or even superpowers I hardly see how it matters who they date when they're not saving people. Some people should grow up, its 2013 for crying out loud.
With his voice and everyone laughing it's hard to take it seriously in any way.
BB
This.
Also Stan Lee doesn't real cares about what goes on in the comics he doesn't read them or anything he is more focused on the movies and making a face there.
@cybrilious4: The language, man. You were on your final warning as is. Sorry.
Well since it didn't happen, I don't see the big deal. Stan is allowed to voice his opinion though. I personally couldn't care less either way.

I agree.
You can't blame him for having old-fashioned views, he is 90 after all.
You mean the right views. ;)
Don't even start it....

Here it comes...
He may have the right to do what he wishes with the character he created, but that doesn't justify his views.
That being said, I'm more offended by the audience, who were clapping and cheering at Stan's jokes, than Stan himself. Stan may have intended his comments to be taken lightly, but the audience affirmed the implication that bisexuality is unacceptable through their applause. And they don't have age as an excuse.

Nope. The truth and nothing but the truth. :D
