Peter Parker OR Otto Octavious as Spider-Man

Man, Peter was the Spider-Man I knew all throughout my childhood.

He is Spider-Man, simple as that. Messing around with the idea is alright, but outright chucking him out of his all own books just doesn't sit right.

And exacly that....it's like Superman not being Clark Kent or something......it isnt right!

My mother's response to Superior;

"What a load of crap. What idiot thought that would be a good idea?"

It's a shock to me that Otto received 31%... What were those who chose him thinking!

I think PP gave everything he can as a character.

And since no one wants to read the same story again and again I voted for Otto, he can give some fresh air on Spiderman. (Sue me~)

32% of voters aren't real Spider-Man fans if they honestly prefer Otto to Peter.

This. It's a bad trend in comics today where people try to separate the character from the name and to put more importance on the mask/name/shield than the character behind it made it.

Same thing with the recent surge in popularity for Loeb's Sam Alexander who is simply a memorium for his son over the actual fan favourite character Richard Rider. It's annoying to see Loeb neglect the legacy of Rider just so he can commemorate his son in this way.

Had you asked me whether i prefer Peter or Otto, Peter gets my vote 10 times outta 10. As far as who is more effective as Spider-Man, Otto takes this. For a moment forget what Otto has done in the past and focus on his actions as Spider-Man. You mustn't let your feelings cloud your judgement. Otto is more effective. But when it comes down to who IS Spider-Man, Peter was,is and always will be Spider-Man. My ideal Spider-Man would be Peter but with Otto's knowledge and sort of personality. I want to see Peter stand up for himself and prove that he should not be taken lightly. I want to see him plan a bit. I hope that when this is over Pete gains something from all this.

@jasonhawke: I'm not voting because I don't believe Otto will be permanent. It's just a very long story arc with long term consequences for Peter when he returns. Would people be as annoyed with the run if it had Part 1, Part 2, etc and gave the number of issues in the run like Kraven's last hunt? Slott's showing how Parker could have been a more effective super-hero but giving him a different personality. All the stuff Superior's been doing could have easily been done by Parker (robot surveillance, getting tougher with Massacre (maybe a type of paralysis than killing), being more mature in handling Jester (I doubt they would have done their gimmick to Capt America), and better preparation for Smythe).

Don't get me wrong, Peter Parker is and will always be the one true Spider-Man. That being said Superior Spider-Man has been the most fun I've have with Spidey in a looooooooooooooooong ass time.

The Texas Spider-man... a great character who has proven to be more than just a clone of Spider-man (even if technically he is), but, by now means not his replacement.
