Ah, Thaal Sinestro. The DCU's most lovable space fascist. Last issue's shocking ending was only the beginning, it turns out, of Sinestro's next bold moves to create his own, utopic and perfectly ordered vision for the galaxy. This issue, though, takes his goals and methods to a whole other level, while still showing us that there are glimmers of...well I don't want to say GOOD, but NOT-EVIL in Sinestro's heart and mind. SPOILERS FOR SINESTRO #12 and #13 TO FOLLOW.

No Caption Provided

To start with, Sinestro has taken Soranik'sGreen Lantern ring and replaced it with one from his own Corps, converting her into a Yellow Lantern. It was previously established that anyone who'd wielded a Green Lantern ring would be rejected by these rings, but that's either a plot point that's been cast aside (not a huge loss, in all honesty as it's also happening in INJUSTICE) or what comes next explains it when the ring vanishes, along with all the other Green Lanterns (see: GREEN LANTERN: THE LOST ARMY for more on that). Sinestro boasts that he knew it was going to happen, which is why he chose to save his daughter. What he chooses to save next is actually a little bit surprising. Not in the why, but in the how.

The reactor of the planet, formerly used to house the worst of the worst, is going to self-destruct. A possible last measure left by the wardens in case the situation became completely untenable. However, it will also clearly ruin it as New Korugar as well as kill most of the inhabitants that would make that possible. In a brash show of power and a willingness to not only save his people, but become their savior and keep his word of honor, as well as the feeling that he can protect them, Sinestro unleashes Parallax to stabilize the core. This costs him his massive power boost, but only one of his least trusted lieutenants, the New God Bekka he converted, knows. Another bold plan, and a great way to ingratiate himself to her.

Sinestro's STILL not done, though, as he now reveals his newest plan yet: supplant the Green Lanterns as keepers of galactic peace. This lines up perfectly with his goals, as he'd already thought himself and his Corps keepers of order rather than sowers of chaos, and he unleashes the Yellow Lanterns to ensure that the Green Lanterns' absence isn't a reason for further deterioration. That leaves only confrontation of the traitor: Lyssa Drak. Apparently Sinestro knew of her intentions and let her go forward only to show her how very up to the task of ruling he was. A risky gambit, but one that's obviously paid off as Sinestro's role in the galaxy is now less questioned than ever and about to become even more massive.

Bunn and Johns has made Sinestro in to one of DC's best "villains" imo. He's right up their with Magneto and Doom over at Marvel.

Fits perfectly with his plans... not sure though I would call a gang of murderers and criminals as peacekeepers though :p kind of a flaw in that line of thinking. But great story and this book is quite good.

@dondave: X-Men and Avengers kidnap people all the time, doesn't make them villains.

Kidnaps them then, slits their throats and puts a bomb in their neck? I dont think so.

@dondave: No but they do kidnap them and keep them prisoner against their will. Also if they thought what they were doing would help them free an entire star system then they absolutely would.

The Avengers would plant a bomb in a prisoners neck to get their help? When have they ever done anything like that?

The Thunderbolts aren't a Superhero Team. They're a government project. It's the same with the Suicide Squad.

Regardless Omega Men are not villains.

I am thoroughly impressed by Cullen Bunn's skilled handling of Sinestro. I look forward to more issues.
