SDCC 2015: Grant Morrison Reveals MULTIVERSITY TOO

During his “Multiversity and Beyond” panel at COMIC-CON INTERNATIONAL: SAN DIEGO 2015, critically-acclaimed writer Grant Morrison introduced fans to two of his upcoming projects for DC Entertainment.

Morrison revealed “MULTIVERSITY TOO,” a line of original graphic novels based on his groundbreaking and bestselling titles from “The Multiversity” series of monthly comics and his “MULTIVERSITY GUIDEBOOK.” Fans will experience stories from throughout the 52 (or more?) worlds that make up Morrison’s Map of the Multiverse and whether it’s the further adventures of Earth-4’s PAX AMERICANA, the New Reichsmen of Earth-10, the female-led Justice Guild of Earth-11 or even one of the seven “unknown worlds,” everything is fair game!

The series begins in 2016 with MULTIVERSITY TOO: THE FLASH. But from which earth is anyone’s guess!

Morrison also provided early details on another series of graphic novels featuring everyone’s favorite Dark Knight in BATMAN: BLACK & WHITE. This continuing anthology series pairs Morrison’s original Batman stories with a rotating cast of some of the biggest art talents in comics, that will only serve to highlight Grant’s one of a kind perspective when it comes to comics in general and Batman in particular.

Morrison is going crazy things again... And I want to know more!

@squalleon: Hmm. Good eye. They almost seem too symmetrical and patterned to be cracks though. Maybe rifts or some other artifical division?

I think it is just lazy copying of the same image :P But it definitely has something to do with the multiverses colliding or connecting.

I'm beyond hyped for this as well. Sounds almost like the Designer Series of action figures, but for comics. Instead of showcasing the unique style of the artist, they're showcasing the unique style of the writer. Of course, Morrison's Batman run is my favorite of all time, so I'm marking out pretty hard right now.

Only way this would be better if Sean Murphy were to collaborate with Morrison again and be the artist on one of those upcoming graphic novels. He's my favorite artist, and his Batman work is awesome.

@captainmarvel4ever: That would be awesome! Hopefully Morrison will pick Thunderworld to be one of the Earths he writes a graphic novel about for Multiversity Too, and then maybe if that sells gangbusters, your pipe dream of the Convergence team doing an ongoing in that universe could be a thing.

Multiversity: Thunderworld and Convergence: Shazam legit got me interested in Cap Marvel. I really hope we get more.

@jaken7: I honestly think something like that could happen, Thunderworld got an incredibly positive fan response (not including the guidebook it's the only one shot that got a 5/5 fan rating on DC's digital store) and the Convergence book was the only tie in that got a truly positive score from Mr. Guerrero here on Comic Vine, so clearly DC sees that people like classic Cap, while his New 52 version is still lukewarm with most readers/fans.

Also glad to here those books got you interested, if you ever want any recommended reading feel free to ask any time.

Waited years of Multiversity and was hugely disappointed. One or two of the side books might be interesting. I liked the one with Overman.

@jaken7: Yes please! I loved Thunderworld, it's like a nostalgic take on the golden aged Captain Marvel, things make more sense, look nicer, are so much cooler than they actually were in the past.

I'm loving the original graphic novels idea.

Dc is killing it this year!!

It was the only Multiversity comic that I want a ongoing from(and Thunderworld). I really want to see more from that world. Overman is extremely interesting and I want to see more of his story.

Comics writers write in advance so the art can be completed in time (and is usually a slower process than the writing).

@squalleon: I would make sense the Multiversity ended with the promise of an invasion by the Gentry from outside our Multiverse.
