Your character(s) in CVnU popular culture.

Some characters are unknown to the public at large, others are local legends, while others are global celebrities. Some may even indulge in merchandising and adaptational works of their lives. Simply put, this thread is for you to state where and how your characters fit in the popular culture scene. This should help end the problem of "a character who's famous in their bio but nobody's ever heard of them"

Do they have merchandise made of them such as toys, T-shirts, and mugs?

Do they make a lot of public appearances off duty?

Do they write books, appear in shows and movies?

Do they have fiction written about them or adapted off their lives?

Etc, etc.

Tombstone for example, I envision as largely occupying the same cultural niche in the CVnU as Batman does in our time line. He even has the sheer length of time being around to match Bats and is a pretty similar kind of hero, effectively being what Bruce Wayne would be if he was also ghost rider and dead man.

His company does make a great deal of money off of his image, and Tombstone action figures, video games (of varying quality), biographies, more than a few movies, and TV shows have been made about him, and he currently has an ongoing animated series about him called Tombstone: Heroes of the Crypt that has met with quite positive reception from audiences. While he tries to remain apolitical, he is known for being very much an FDR kind of Democrat, and tends to not so secretly endorse liberal politicians.

The Ant on the other hand is essentially Spiderman if his PR wasn't terrible. And unlike Tombstone he does keep a secret identity, but as a member of the Canadian Nova Phalanx his image is acceptable for public usage and he has had a similar degree of popular appeal as Tombstone, though those interested in him tend to be younger than Tombies (a nickname for Tombstone's fandom) and of course, he's most popular in Canada (although he's inexplicably popular in Andorra), as no one in the media actually knows whom the Ant is, many guesses are made in adaptations of his work, of varying degrees of accuracy.

These are just two of my characters given a very brief description of their place in the minds of the masses. I could go into more, but I'd probably start losing you.

Asteria

She occupies an interesting place in mutant life. Although her views are extreme she is very persuasive; especially to mutants who have significant powers, or feel disenfranchised. He brand of supremacy is popular in certain quarters, and her wealth allows her to self publish both in paper and online.

Moderate voices inside the mutant community despise her. Humans, obviously, despise her (and she returns the favor). However, despite all of that her ideas do have merit; for example she rejects the entirety of human culture, including fashion. Members of Asteria's faction can be distinguished by their alien garb. The same is true of high society; although many are extremely wealthy they reject all the elements of high society life.

They don't want to move into the presidential suite, they want to destroy the entire tower and build a pyramid.

So Asteria has a disproportionate influence on some of the more extreme mutants, and she is famous and polarizing figure in the mutant community.

Shiho is involved in affairs of the Arcani, and acted in some of their most prominent operations. Despite this, she remains largely unnoticed to the public at large. This is because she doesn't have the flare of Amaranth with his internet videos and public speaking, and she doesn't have the people skills to go out campaigning like he does.

Even many of the metahuman-involved community don't know of her (this was based on actual reactions, or lack thereof, to her in character). She's gained some recognition in Venezuela among the mutants, but even there, most people don't know a lot, save for the fact that she wears an odd black outfit and is a girl. Reported details on her height vary.

Abigail's father was a statesman in Britain, renowned or reviled for his advocating of mutant rights and coexistence, depending on where you side with that. In his time, he caught a lot of flak for it, and there were rumours that he or someone in his family was a mutant, though this fact was never confirmed by the public. He was killed years ago.

Abigail, in a similar vein, fights for unity between Homo sapien and Homo superior, likewise pretending to be human. Her family still holds some prominence in Britain, but elsewhere, she is largely unknown (also based on IC reaction).

She's relatively well-known in some circles within Venezuela, for the fact that she was spearheading the fight against the VRS long before anyone else, Xenon-related or otherwise, even popped up. Though some there don't like her for compromising herself and being convinced to allow children soldiers, she's mostly good there, and managed to have people willing to help her get out of the country.

Some in the metahuman community may know her as "that bitch that let Charlemagne LeBeau live when she could've killed him and saved us all the trouble a long time ago."

No one knows who Decoy is or who The Guild of Killers are.

Armistice - So secretive he may as well not exist in the CVnU, was considered a well respected hero and team leader in his home reality.

Reignfire - Moderately known history of working against government and business interests that would be considered anti-mutant. He may have a few fan pages online but he is far from a well known name.

Ladykiller - There is not a government agency on earth that does not have a file on him a mile long, one of the earliest documented metahuman agents working for a major government or military in the modern era. Outside of those circles he is pretty anonymous as his mercenary rep is still being built.

Rútur Egilson

Rútur is the first-born son of a retired superhero called Ulfberht, who flew a special plane during the Second World War and fought with the allies, and came out with his identity post-war, so he's earned himself a little bit of notoriety for that. His workshop operation has made him fairly well-known in the hero community.

Xodar

On Barsoom, Xodar was the respected Jeddak, or leader, of the First Born race of Black Martians. Outside of Barsoom, practically no-one knows who he is.

What's the general public's perception of them?- Animus was somewhat known in the early 90's as an up and coming technological marvel besides influential people of the times. Bill Gates was seen with him in tabloids of the decade, as well as Steven Hawking. His private life yet candid shot with these people peaked public interest and got him an interview in 1997 on 60 minutes

What memes are associated with them?- Wait wut

Do they have merchandise made of them such as toys, T-shirts, and mugs? - Nothing like that. Though he does have older electronics that he invented as common place on the market today that carried the first incarnation of the Animus Corporation.

Do they make a lot of public appearances off duty? - Make a wish foundations leading high powered figure in wishes come true as well the first charity runner to cut out the middle man and make sure each home in ghettos was supplied with food on christmas and thanksgiving in Newark his, (Percieved) Home town.

Do they write books, appear in shows and movies? He's written one science fiction novel and two theories on interstellar travel and another on adaptive cybernetic cohesion within the human body.

Do they have fiction written about them or adapted off their lives? A conspiracy loosely links him to a 13th century tapestry of the holy siege in Israel as well as scattered blurred photos and semi-reliable passages containing a description of him

There are urban legends about a little girl who comes out from shadows and kills people. Even though many people laughs at it, growing numbers of the dead mobsters by a short killer makes people think.

Killer dwarf is the depiction of local police on killer of the many dead mobsters cases. They were mostly butchered and the way the scars inflicted depicts a short person.

Risky is commonly seen as the worst cliche of what a mutant can be and everybody but the most radical elements of mutantkind see her as a disgrace to the race. The media (especially the news of the conservative kind) are full of reports of her terroristic attacks and the resulting collateral losses. Certain mutant subcultures celebrate her as a freedom fighter, a hero even while the more moderate representatives try to make clear that she is an extremist on par with Al Quaeda or the IRA. The mutant supremacist usually paint her as a glorious example of what a rebel should be but miss the point that she is not a mutant supremacist herself, rather a mutant secessionist. It also usually gets lost in reports of all sides that she only strikes such targets that are guilty of mutant discrimination and/or persecution. As already mentioned she may not really care about collateral damage all the time.

There is no real merchandise around her, certain individuals sometimes see it as a political statement to wear a T-shirt with a picture of her on it or wave signs with it. No movies so far, only a single doctoral thesis has been written about her (like about famous terrorists like Carlos) which was rewarded with a high ranking degree.

CB is a well known graffiti artist, often of course just self portraits and uses his robot abilities to ruin entire neighborhoods.

Well he was part of the Enforcers but I don't know how well know are they now.

Well, I'm not the public would forget them that quickly.

Sun Pao

Is a polymath of legendary proportions and could be worldwide famous in any number of areas of study. He however is reclusive and prefers to maintain most of his time in The Middle Kingdom where he is extremely famous seeing as how he is Emperor of the realm.

Nufai's name is a byword for "traitor" in the universe at large, much as how Quisling's name is on Earth.

Nufai is infamous for being a scumbag for selling out his entire species to the widely despised Hierarchy just for some quick advancement.

Nufai is the most frequently killed off, assaulted, or otherwise harmed character in the propaganda made about the Birthstar war.

The Strigidae are known to the public at large as a group of mutant assassins. Those in the martial arts community are often aware that the Strigidae are all members of a semi-religious cult of martial artists. Within the mutant community the Strigidae are known to be under the Arcani umbrella group.

Aleksei is a highly popular business man who frequently appears in business periodicals, is frequently interviewed, and has produced a number of documentaries and biographies and has had many made of himself. He is known for his charity work and generous contributions to the entertainment industry and is popular in both America and Canada for not being afraid to manhandle would be attackers himself.

What's the general public's perception of them?The Malcolm persona is seen as a irresponsible playboy by the public, he is widely famous and known as one of the richest men in the world while Dark Vengeance is either hated, loved, or thought to be non-existant

Do they have merchandise made of them such as toys, T-shirts, and mugs? Yes and they sell really well. it is common to see someone with a shirt that has the symbol of Dark Vengeance on their chest or protesting against it. Or to see a kid playing with a Dark Vengeance action figure.

Do they have fiction written about them or adapted off their lives? Yes, Dark Vengeance had a TV animated show based off of him a year after he first appeared in Gothic city (although it wasn't accurate with the specifics of his powers like the lack of precognition and how fast he could move, ect). It became an instant success and classic of that generation. A movie is currently on the works

What's the general public's perception of them?

Closure: He's the son of New York's highly decorated district attorney. He's a political wunderkind in the eyes of the public, especially with his family various connections. However, when recent developments come to light things will change.

Clara Mass: She's a media darling. Friend of the president, strongly connected to the white house, helped in Ziev's campaign. Although her title is very much ambiguous she's always on the news representing the president on some occasions.

Closure: Yes, although not on purpose.

Clara Mass: Yes, likes being caught on camera. Makes her feel important.

Both if featured usually speak on behalf of causes, politics, rumors, etc.

Do they have fiction written about them or adapted off their lives?

Closure: Has appeared on magazines of the likes of GQ purposely to promote his father, family, politics etc so there's most likely fiction running rampant. He kind of likes that. Has appeared on a family documentary televised on HBO to show his father's run for office.

Clara Mass: Made a cameo appearance in the docu.

Theron is probably known, about as known as any metahuman in the CVnU. He'd probably be more popular after the War.

Sheng is probably the most known. Being a fighter, who has won many high class tournaments in many different styles of martial arts. But he doesn't do anything else in the public's eye other than fighting.

El Evento Principal is considered a local legend in Mexico, a cursed Luchador who wanders the land in search of challenges. Outside of Mexico his legend is not well known.

August Hudson is the founder of Winter Technologies.

Winter Tech. develops surveillance and defensive tools such as specialized cameras, armor plates and satellites. The business is pretty much located exclusively in parts of Europe and Asia, and is pretty popular around those parts.

The company also develops tools beyond surveillance and defensive tools, but the other products are for 'Exclusive Customers'.

As for Hudson himself, he's less than a whisper in a dream (unless your a target of his) to the public eye. He runs the company completely behind closed doors and does so for personal reasons.
