Interview with Pyrogram
1. When did you first start rpging on the Vine? When you did what did you think about the atmosphere then?
I started RPGing properly on the vine for the first time around seven or eight months ago. When I first joined things were pretty daunting due to being new, I did think place was quite friendly though, in relativity to the rest of comic vine's forums (Battle, for example). I had a sense of naive fun as I barely knew anybody and it was a good experience. I thought the place was lively (more than now, in a way, due to thinking every alt was a new person) and I had to get to know everybody.
2. Who were some of the first viners to assist you when you arrived here?
Even though she denies it, Frenemy was one of the first people to help and write with me on a regular basis and that was probably one of the key factors in me staying long term. I also wrote daily with a lesser known writer called Wildvine (although, we were both pretty new). Later on, Lady Liberty prompted me to get involved in on Venezuela, and the rest is history.
3. Do you feel like a rookie in the CV rpg section? If not, what made your transition easy?
I stopped feeling like a rookie after Anthony Stark. He had such an impact (others have said to me, plus I realized) it made me feel part of the section, and due to how many people that character affected, I got to know everybody quicker than most people would have. People have said to me before I was "accepted" (whatever that means) into the RP community quicker than the average person. Maybe that just means how you're perceived, but I personally felt less rookie like after Stark, I think we all have a character who boosts are confidence, I just happened to find mine early.
4. Is it possible for new rpgers to jump right into the section with success? (IF Yes how so?)
I think so. People like Mastermouse are a recent example. All you need is a good attitude and don't come in with a false bravado. Your writing does not even need to be that good. Just don't like you're mister/misses big shot (like some new people) and nobody'll mind. Respect the rules, and you're good to go. But if you leave a bad first impression, you're nearly doomed to fail and be stigmatized as a d!ck for the rest of your vine life, I think.
5. What do you think about, when choosing whether an rpg is worth your time?
These days it usually revolves around who I'm RPGing with. I don't really go into RPG's anymore blind and 99% of them are asked OOC and not random etc...So really, yeah, it depends on who I'm RPing with and what I or they wanna do. Less about any certain criteria.
6. What’ has been your favorite rpg to date?
Probably the entire Anthony Stark run I done with him being Meta-Human Chief of Staff. That was the most fun I've ever had on the forum, and it engaged so many people, I was able to work with everybody in a short space of time, while writing a fun character. So that entire era of writing for me was the funnest. But if I had to choose an event, It would be the destruction of liberty as I had one of my funnest fights there. Shinigami Vs Andres and Quintus. Although, the RP amounted to no canon continuation, but it was very fun.
7. Name three of your favorite writers and why.
Closure - His writing is severely underrated for how excellent it really is. He is able to make consistent posts which are of high quality as well as being able to push multiple stories at the same time. He was one of the reasons Venezuela worked so well. His ideas are always fresh and new.
Zauberin - Her writing is unique to most in the way it's got a sense of realism which is hard for anybody else I've seen to capture. Her characters respond in ways which are very realistic. That takes skill and to be able to have such character integrity at a consistent rate is impressive. Her writing also flows amazingly and makes RP's highly enjoyable.
Puzzler - Even though we all take the piss and joke that he cannot hold a stable character (or I do). Puzzler constantly thinks outside the box and comes up with new ideas at a frantic rate. Maybe that's his downfall. But when you RP with Puzzler, you're basically guaranteed a fun RP every time, without planning a thing. A great asset to his forum, and he promotes a hell load of activity everywhere with his non-stop energy.
8. Do you believe the Rpg section has a Clique problem? Why or why not.
People write with who they enjoy. It's that simple. I enjoy writing with certain people more than others so work with them much more. It's just social bonds and friendship groups. It's not a problem unless people in certain groups refuse to RP with people from others (which does not happen, to my knowledge).
9. IF there was one thing on the Vine you could fix, what would it be?
People would stop complaining about activity and doing nothing to promote it.
10. What do you think can solve the rpg section activity problem?
I don't think we have an activity problem. Maybe in the sense that teams do not work and we don't have as many events as people would like. But if you're looking for interaction activity, you have to go and find it yourself. I've been turning people down (and I know people who have been doing the same) who have wanted to interact with me due to being so busy. The activity is there, you just have to go and find it.
At least, that's what I think.
11. If there was one story arc you’d like to see reenacted through an rpg what would it be?
Honestly? I don't read comics enough to be able to give a sensible answer. Yeah, I'm a terrible comic fan.
