Senzui - Age 5

No Caption Provided

A man's life is a unique thing, throughout the years in which he walks an earth both beautiful and broken, no matter how long or short such an existence may prove to be. His life is shaped by many encounters, many small but every now and again fate or perhaps just a random act can lead a man on the path that means the difference between sinner and saint. Senzui had experienced such a stage in his life at an age where most children were dreaming of heroes and playing with toys.

"Keep up Senzui" He could hear his father's voice boom like thunder from across the distance, as his little legs tried to move as frantically and with the same purpose that his young mind was envisioning them to do, but Senzui for all the benefits of being born into highborn status, was cruelly born with a weak body. And though he had been saved from death and given stability from the various seals which adorned his small body, the child was not yet as strong as he willed himself to be everyday. With each step his breathing became more laboured, and his body shook just that little bit more.

Upon finally reaching his father, and their destination after a long walk the young shinobi slumped over, like some dishevelled tree his hands gripping as tightly as they could into his thighs. The air felt grand as he furiously and with large gasps tried to find his breath again. As he did he could feel his father's presence loom over him, a titan of a man that to such a young child eclipsed even the very sun that burned in the open sky. The man placed his hand beneath Senzui's chin and lifted his head so their eyes could meet. "You have been neglecting your breathing" The man spoke with a silent disappointment

"No father" No warning was given, not a hint of prior movement as Rei Kaitenjiku's hand struck the face of his young son. Every instincts told him to grip his face, to cry out. Do something, anything but he was taught to never show weakness or signs of fear. Ironic for a child viewed as a weakness amongst his clan. His elders viewed him with distaste and the other children refused to play with him. Placing his hands upon Senzui's shoulders Rei looked upon his son with more concern. "My boy never neglect even the most basic of teachings, it can mean the difference between life and death" Looking at his father his face still burning, he nodded ever so slightly.

Senzui looked around, his mind finally able to take in the visions of the beautiful scenery which surrounded him. A large expansive lake as clear as the bright blue sky lay just in front of his feet, but as much as he tried to relax and enjoy the view. He knew his father had brought him up here for more pressing matters, for no matter how hard he tried to forget what he had saw 4 moons past he could not. That girl no older than 15 had come in the dead of night, screaming like a banshee but it was not her hallowing cries that had frightened Senzui. No it was when her body burst into flames and yet her skin did not burn. If it hadn't been for the elder, who knows how many could have been hurt. And as his mind wandered to a place he did not want it to go he wondered if perhaps she could have been saved from her own danger, or yet maybe she was killed for being different.

"You understand why that girl had to die?" Senzui looked at his father as if to ponder a question he had been asking himself. "Um...... Um she was dangerous" His voice spoke with a slight hesitation, but his father simply shook his head. "She.......... Was...... Different" This time the hesitation was greater, for he did not want to believe someone should be killed for being different. Yet again Rei shook his head. "No my son we did not kill her for being dangerous, for we both live amongst dangerous individuals. We did not kill her for being different, for without differences in this world, man would stagnate. We killed her because she upset the balance" Looking at his father with an inquisitive look. "Balance?" Rei quickly picked up two pebbles, one white the other black.

"Tell me what do you see?" Senzui wondered if this was a trick question. "Pebbles father" Rei held them up closer to his son's emerald eyes. "What do you see?" This time Senzui contemplated long and hard before giving his answer. "I see opposites" Rei once again shook his head and proceeded to sit next to his son. "Only man makes games out those of two different colours. Light and darkness are not opposites Senzui, but two sides of the same world. In life you will meet people who will either look to control the world, or set it free but they are all living with one eye closed, unable to see the world for what it truly is, chaotic yet harmonious. Your life will be met with many challenges some will make you feel free, others trapped but not one decision you make greatly outweighs the other. It pained me to see such a young child die, but letting her live was to great a risk."

Senzui felt like he could understand his fathers words, but only time would tell if he would abide by his teachings. After an hour of silent meditation, the two made their way back to the village. Upon their arrival as they looked down at their home from a hillside. Senzui failed to notice a crack beneath his feet, as his father moved on ahead. Tripping Senzui could feel his ankle twist and as he tumbled his small body ever so fragile began to break, as blood spewed from his nose and mouth. Rei looked back at his fallen son, but made no move to help him, for he knew this was another big moment in the boys life. Senzui looked up from the ground, his vision hazy but he could feel their eyes upon him, wishing he had been killed upon birth. He could hear laughter cruel and child like. His fingers dug into the dirt as he pushed himself to his feet. His eyes burned with new found determination. He was not weak, he was strong. Senzui would show them he would make them believe. He did not care how much he had to be broken, he would rebuild himself. They would respect him, for he was a tiger. A predator that roamed the very peaks of the food chain, and one day they would all see his true worth.
