I'm sure Xandra eats more than just mutants. She's a equal-opportunity cannibal!

She eats anyone, but REALLY likes superpowered blood. It's her crack.

A swear escaped from Grays lips as she missed her intended target. She didnt like to play with her kill and would have rather finished this quickly, but she had now realized that nothing about this would be quick. She did little damage to Dog, as he snapped his neck back, dodging her attack easily. His weapons were up close and personal, making it difficult to get farther away from him. He seemed to want to keep it close, dancing around her attacks and attacking her in return just as fast.

Her stamina wasnt weakening but the fight was becoming faster and faster, leaving her little time to react properly. She spotted the albino man in the corner of her vision. He was watching the two of them, but she couldn't help but notice the look on his face, the eyes of a killer sparking to life. He enjoyed what he saw, which made her enjoy the spar even more.

Unfortunately for her, she wasnt paying attention to her opponent, only just realizing he was coming straight for her. With little time to react, she grunted, jumping into the air but getting clipped by his legs in the meanwhile. Gray yelped as she flew across the mat, landing at the albino man's feet, leaving her gasping for air.

"I.. guess.. I.." She got to her feet, trying her best to regain her breath. "... Should be paying more attention." She took one more deep breath before turning back to Dog, and returned to a fighting stance. She was ready now. She had to take this man seriously if she wanted to show him her best.

Placing her swords back in their spot at her hips, she removed her belt and dropped it by the mat. She smiled, her enjoyment rising even more as she stepped closer to Dog. He better be ready for this. She quickly ran toward him, determined to at least take him down a couple pegs, and swung her head dragging her long, sharp hair toward his midsection.

@traverser:

The take-down shouldn't have been that effective, not this early in the fight. Something was distracting Gray. A quick glance at where her eyes had flickered ever so briefly indicated the source. So, this one likes attention. Gotta remember that...

Her distraction didn't last long, though. She shook it off as she got to her feet, putting aside her weapons and losing her belt, obviously maximizing her mobility. She grinned, although that grin indicated that she was taking this match more seriously, not less. Then she brought her hair into the fray.

Dog had been hoping for this. He had seen her position her unusual hair as though it was another of her weapons, and he'd been eager to see if that was just posturing, or if she could use it to the same deadly effect as her blades. He was not disappointed. Every armor had its weak points, no matter how elaborate or exotic, and the vibranium-weave was no exception. Specifically, the weave was thinner around the waist, so as not to impede the torso's ability to move and flex in close quarters. Dog was aware of this, but he had never been one to wholly depend on armor. He made no attempt to evade, allowing Gray to close with him and entangle him in her sharp tresses.

Once again, Dog was not disappointed. He had once been dragged behind a jeep over a patch of glass shards, and that was the closest feeling he could compare this to. Gray's strength was considerable, and it drove her natural weapons deep into Dog's quick-healing but otherwise normal flesh. A loud, bestial grunt of pain escaped his lips as his crimson blood stained her sharp, silver hair.

Somewhat disappointed that he couldn't return the favor and draw some blood of hers in return, he countered in the simplest way he saw open, both powerful hands darting downwards like striking serpents, seeking to lock about her throat like vises. "Figure even you need to breathe, sweetheart," he growled through gritted teeth.

Adrenaline coursed through Grays body as her hair sliced through Dogs flesh. She had been waiting for this feeling for awhile now and relished in every second of it.

That was until he caught her by surprise, reaching up and wrapping his claws around her throat and clenching tight. A cough escaped her throat before her windpipe threatened to close completely. God damn it, Dog.

She had never let anyone get this close. She may have impenetrable skin, but she depended on personal space above all else. She usually cut down anyone who came within her vicinity, and despised the fact that he could reach her so easily.

Even with his hands around her throat, she couldn't help but feel aroused. She cursed at herself for being so sick, but she knew now was definitely not the time. She grabbed a hand full of her hair, now gasping as her breath became ragged and desperate.

If she had waited any longer she could be dead, or worse, become unconscious and later mocked by Dog. She grunted, his strength difficult to match, and brought her hair up to his forearms, hoping to slice through his hands if she had to.

Dog's eyes narrowed as his nose caught a sudden shift in Gray's scent. She's enjoyin' this, he realized, his mouth twisting into a sadistic grin as he locked eyes with her and tightened his grip. His own compulsion for inflicting pain cost him, however, as his first realization that Gray was still in the fight was sudden pain in his forearms.

The only thing that saved Dog from having to let his healing factor reattach his wrists was the combination of his superhumanly dense bones and the solid vibranium gauntlets; unprotected human hands would have been sheared off like blades of grass by Gray's deadly hair. As it was, however, it cost him his grip on his opponents throat, and he retreated several steps, arterial spray from his slashed wrists catching them both for several moments until the wounds closed.

He swiftly reversed the retreat however, attempting to stay on the offense by leaping at his opponent, this time keeping both gauntleted forearms poised for defense as he sought to bring a knee up into Gray's chest and knock her prone.

@the_psyentist: @alpha_dog: (Knew you would like it.)

Gray could not remember the last time she had wanted oxygen in her life so badly before, but could tell that she wouldn’t be able to last much longer. She inhaled painfully, falling to her knees for a couple seconds, as Dog finally released his grip around her throat and she almost cried from the pressure built up in her lungs. For once in her life she found someone else who was just as difficult as herself in battle and couldn’t deny that it scared her, as well as turned her on immensely.

She remembered the first time she had killed someone. They weren’t aware of her mutant abilities and accidently touched her hair. No matter how hard her mother tried, he just laid there, growing colder every second as blood seeped from his body at an alarming rate. She had apologized to her mother over and over again, until she didn’t understand what she was sorry for anymore. She wanted her mother to tell her it was ok, but she knew that it wasn’t. She had killed someone, taking their life without any reason and it hurt Gray’s heart, painting her memories crimson forever.

She was brought back to the present with a splatter of Dogs blood erupting from his veins onto her face and body. Her tongue slipped from her mouth, craving to taste all of his warmth. Crimson water seeped down her throat, thickly coating her taste buds. She shook her head, trying to take herself out of this distraction and wished she had perceived, faster, the fact that Dog was coming toward her at an alarming rate, his knee coming straight toward her chest. She dodged out of the way of his initial attack but couldn’t distance herself enough from his monstrous figure, in turn, getting lodged underneath his massive weight.

Not knowing what to say to the creature, Gray desperately tried to shake her arms and legs loose, but she was stuck. She couldn’t speak so she lay beneath him, staring into his eyes, breathing deeply and moaning. She hoped one day he would forgive her for her weaknesses. Doing whatever it would take, she knew that one day she would become stronger, maybe even stronger than him.

@traverser:

Dog leaned low over Gray's trapped form, his feral fangs so close they could almost brush her lips. He didn't need to read her scent to notice the powerful aphrodisiac effect that the combat had upon her; given her earlier maneuvers, she should have been to evade his last attack. Her literal lust for battle could wind up being a liability, or it could become a powerful motivation...with the right training. Dog was well-aware of how his own compulsion for killing could be both.

Quietly, making sure no other would be able to hear, he whispered "not bad...fer yer first lesson, Gray." He flashed her a wicked smile as he rose, extending one hand to offer her help getting to her feet. "There's a lesson fer all of ya," he announced, both to his new teammates and several students who had paused to match the melee. "I seen gods taken down by grunts in my day; no set o' powers every guarantees victory, or defeat. Yer never above gettin' yer tail handed to ya, and nobody's ever above ya handin' 'em their tail."

He turned his grin back to Gray. "Guess it's a good time to show ya to yer room; looks like ya could use a shower."

In a moment of weakness she thought that Dog was about to kiss her. He certainly was close enough. His smell drove her crazy, like musk and sweet wheatgrass, and she bit her lip to stop from making any move on him. Of course he would see her lust as nothing but weakness and she knew she would have to seperate her hormones from her fights, after all, she wouldn't be able to have sexual feelings for the enemy. That would be a very bad idea.

He whispered in her ear, easing the situation only a little bit. She cleared her throat at his smile and placed her hand in his, sighing as she lifted herself to her feet. "Thank you." She mumbled, glancing at the floor as she didnt want to meet the other students gaze. Dog addressed everyone in the room, speaking loudly for all to hear. His words were wise and she knew not to take it personally. She had to get better before taking him on seriously again.

Gray nodded at his attempt to ease the tension between them, suggesting to bring her to her room. "I would appreciate that, Dog." She dusted her clothes off, grabbed her belt that held her longswords, and followed behind him.

One week later...

@apex_@vein@venatoria@dr_izza@traverser@petiri_mapoza@cormac

"Team, get yer hides to the ready room," the intercom system blared throughout the Doghouse, its founder's unmistakably charming voice barking orders with his usual tact. "Petiri, yer gonna wanna attend this one, too; it concerns ya."

Dog sat at one end of the long conference table in the ready room, leaning back in his chair, booted feet propped on the table. For all his insistence on grueling training, he had little patience for military discipline. "Combat-ready troops seldom pass inspection, and inspection-ready troops seldom pass combat," as the saying went. The table itself was littered with intelligence materials: stereotypical file folders with various levels of confidentiality stamped on them in red ink, as well as few thumb drives and stacks of photographs and building blueprints and schematics.

As the team filtered into the room, Dog launched into his bit with his usual lack of preamble. "Alright, listen up. I'm sure yer all aware of the election going on up north, and if yer followin' it at all, ya know that fixin' up Gothic City's a hot-button issue." He paused for just one moment, trying to gauge by the others' expressions just who was already familiar with the matter. "Thing is, it's in the best interests of the Shogunate fer the place to stay a lawless cesspit o' crime and violence; it gives us an easy place to gain a foothold and launch ops from. Our job's gonna be to make sure it stays that way, whoever winds up being the top bean-counter."

He gestured one clawed hand casually at the table. "Here's all the intel we got on the city, including what we know 'bout the big players and power brokers. Give it a glance, 'specially if ya ain't familiar with the place. It's all been put into the training computers by the eggheads too, so ya can run sims to get acquainted. Do what ya gotta do to get ready; we leave in three days. Ven and I have already been scoutin' potential base camps."

"Petiri," he continued, addressing the disciplined trainer, "ya signed on as a trainer, not someone who runs ops, but if ya want in on this one, yer welcome. Otherwise, yer gonna be runnin' the show here 'till we get back."

"That's it," he concluded, already standing and heading for the door, "hop to it."

Alex had allowed herself to slip into an element of obscurity. She trained and recruited and wasn't opposed to socolization. Her field work was good, not unbecoming of her talent but she also didn't go out of the way to be extrordinary. She painted herself as a rather ideal soldier of the shogunate acting for mutant kind first and caring for status in the military last. Now however the game of subterfuge and investigation was coming to a much more dangerous setting. It's taken some time but actions and plans were beginning to reveal themselves. Now she had to play a part in the situation she might not wish to be apart of. And that road shed taken was beginning to become a wire she'd have to balance on.

She looked through the files in a professional tone, her poster ideal military. Her attire was casual but she carried herself in a respectful fashion. When the briefing came to a close and the hound had said his words Alex however stood to voice her opinion. Her act of reading files and the like was buying her time to think. To sort out her words and counter argument. Seperating her opinions into a rebuttal in favor of those with the X gene.

"Excuse me but isn't that contradictory sir. We're not Satar out for some anarchic regime. Venezuela was turned into a nation for mutants, and hardened into a greater haven for our kind by the Shogun. Isn't it an obligation that at the least we put a focus on extracting the mutants to a better place. As opposed to that isolated district where they are always at risk of being picked apart?" Sympathizing for her fellow mutant kind was a justifiable portrayal. It also painted a soft side to her character she figured which could help point from the truth of who she was.

"Not our job," Dog replied, once again wondering if Alex's demonstrated concern for her fellow mutants would wind up being a liability. "This is black ops, not humanitarian aid. Ya wanna play last chopper outta Saigon, yer welcome to do so on yer own time. The Shogun's got folks fer handlin' immigration; we're goin' in to make sure Gothic stays an arena we can operate in. If some pack o' do-gooders traipses in there and cleans up the place, it's gonna make it hard fer us to launch any kind of missions there."

He swept the room again with his eyes, leaning casually in the door frame. "Anybody else got questions?"

Vein grinned behind his white mask, a metal hand sweeping up to rest upon his chest. "Looking forward to doing some damage for the right side, Hond. Gothic City is a hell hole. "My blade remains yours to direct. Where you direct it, I care very little."

Of those members of the Pack that were in any way educated or interested in the subject of Gothic City's politics, Lampetra Cervantes was quite evidently not among their number. Like Dog's, her feet were propped up on the table in front of her, but her attention was notably elsewhere -- specifically, on boredly filing her nails with one of her sai, her mask in place, creating small, muffled sounds with the Spaniard breathed.

She'd joined the Pack because of what had been promised to her -- wealth, position, comfort, and an opening to attack, kill, and consume agreed-upon targets. Mutant politics and the movements of Venezuelan operatives meant little to her, something she didn't truly understand and didn't have the will to attempt to learn. She was a mutant, fighting for mutants, and that was as simple as things had been for her in quite some time. She aimed to keep it that way, if possible.

"My blade remains yours to direct, Perro," she mumbled idly, brushing her nails (now sharpened to points) off on her pants and casting an aside glance to the other operatives around the table. "Where you direct it, I care very little. You are the tactician here... I am merely la matadora."

"Glad yer on board," Dog nodded to Vein and Venatoria. "Oh, and I almost forgot; got a present for ya all. A bit ago, I had a run-in with the MRF, and managed to come away with a little souvenir: a string of neutra-grenades. Only enough fer each of ya to take one, but it might come in handy. Set it off, and anyone inside twenty yards who ain't got mind shields will be out cold. It's a lot quieter than a standard frag, too. Head to the armory and pick 'em up, as well as anything else ya might need. We ain't got the fancy toys that Mav does, but we got some of the non-standard fare: tracer rounds, white phosphorus, night goggles, gas masks, and such. Don't worry about travelin' light just yet; we'll be stashin' most of our gear in our Gothic HQ."

Dr Izza leafed through the file at an empty place at the table, giving it the most cursory of glances. She would read it more thoroughly later in her private quarters. Right now she was more interested in taking stock of her "teammates". She had no personal interest in the current or future state of Gothic City, but if she wanted the resources provided here she had to pay the piper, so to speak. And if Gothic was half the hole she was hearing about, it would be make a fantastic hunting ground. Her unscarred eye trailed over the others assembled, making mental notes. Izza tilted her head to one side, fixing her eye on the leader, her expression unreadable. "If I understand your. Vernacular. You would l-like me to make something up? A... welcoming gift for. Gothic? And an antidote too I'm. Quite. Sure. Can't have anyone getting sick." She stood at the table, still lazily flipping the pages, swaying slowly from side to side. She was secretly interested now, the idea of letting something nasty loose in such a broad field had levels of experimentation normally reserved for lessor, unpopular countries.

@dr_izza:

"Heh. Got it in one." That sort of thing wasn't Dog's preferred method of fighting. It wasn't that it offended some sense of honor or fair play; he simply enjoyed cutting down his enemies up close and personal. If you didn't walk away covered in the enemy's blood and with his screams still ringing in your ears, it wasn't a victory, as far as he was concerned. They were going to be up against some serious numbers here, though, so they needed to fight dirty and use any weapon or tactic that would give them an edge. "Yer right about the antidote, too. Me and Ven can probably handle whatever you cook up, but we need somethin' fer if one of the others gets a does of yer nasty treat. Soon as we secure our HQ, ya can start settin' up yer field lab, and the team'll see about gettin' ya some lab rats."

@alpha_dog:

Gray sat in a chair in the meeting room slumped over onto the table admiring her blades. The reflection of her blanc eyes stared back at her, screaming at her silently. What was she doing here? This was really none of her business but if this fight meant she would become stronger then she might as well bite.

Everyone else was looking at paperwork, glancing at files, and finding ways to take out the enemy quickly. Gray still didnt fully understand her purpose here. She wasnt strong enough to beat Dog, and she couldn't help but feel a dark presence to the room. She had never really met any other mutants other than her parents and these people definitely were not the prettiest.

She smiled silently wondering what type of people were surrounding her, but she wouldnt let it get to her. She had to focus, though it wasn't easy with all these people around, for all she knew one of these mutants could kill her in her sleep. She was never safe, even with Dog there, she could lose her life.

She swept her eyes around the room, brushing a piece of deadly hair out of her vision. Even if she were fighting along with these people, she knew it was a double mission to analyze the folks that stood in this very room. She could hardly wait. Gray locked onto Dog and could hardly sit still anymore. "What, in the name of hell, are we waiting for then?"

@traverser: Dog grinned as Gray locked eyes with him. He was just as aware as she was about how volatile and unpredictable this pack of killers he'd assembled was; there were no guarantees that they ultimately wouldn't all end up turning on each other in what promised to be an orgy of violence the likes of which had never been seen. Unlike her, though, he was as comfortable with the situation as he had ever been with anything. After all, he was as violent and vicious as any of them.

"As of right now, absolutely nothin'," he responded. "Grab any extra toys ya wanna bring on this trip, and let's go give Jean Quentin's flunkies some nightmares."

"I didn't kill him" Evie remarked, her hands and feet were handcuffed to a chair motion limited as much as possible. The room was cold and metallic with lights relatively dim doing nothing for a sense of comfort. Across from her sat a man in a suit, a button on the collar however told of an orientation of the Orochi and not of some officer. In the corner of the room stood another man, casual fatigues masked a muscular build, a knife on his hip. Before today Evie had enjoyed looking at the military of the Shogunate, what they wore or were equipped with was always changing. There was a uniformity and individuality that'd be hard to find anywhere else.

"We know you didn't, I detect DNA and can analyze it that's my power. And what I know is that none of those stains on the road was blood. In fact the DNA the people think they're looking for is in you." The suit commented and Evie only blinked in confusion. The soldier smiled and left as the suit got to his feet. "Your not a killer yet but that is what the Shogunate think you are. Additionally you have no relation to the Shogunate military. There for your the perfect disposable asset, so we intend to use you. Unless you prefer a firing squad."

Evie relaxed a bit, apart of her abrasive but a larger part however approved of the situation. "So who comes first?" A voice deep in her head was all to excited for the opportunity. It was amusing in a way that the new aspects of her were the vicious ones when the more casual Evie was far more capable of destruction when she'd been on her own.

"STRIKE simulation 6.82 b7. Activate. Maximum difficulty."

A neon green holographic grid formed around the six armed mutant. A hardlight wireframe. It solidified into a hellicarrier deck. Stormclouds. Driving rain.

Flashes of lightning illuminate a human tide of STRIKE agents charging across the deck toward the lone mutant. The rumble of thunder drowned out the gunfire.

But the phased array of empty white compound eyes could see the rounds fly through the air. And sparks from near misses hissed in the rain.

Six arms drew six machine pistols. Wide angle vision saw the entire field of view with perfect clarity at all times. Asynchronous muscles twitched in bursts; target, squeeze, target, squeeze; six at a time.

Simulated STRIKE agents dropped as the hurricane of freakishly accurate fire tore into their ranks. They fell in such numbers the dead disrupted their charge.

Synergy didn't hesitate. Four machine pistols went back into their holsters. Two vibranium edged Katana's sang, and hacked through the steel deck. She leaped through the hole as her two free arms reloaded her remaining two pistols.

STRIKE's simulated response time was peerless. Synergy barely had time to smirk before she heard the clatter of feet and barked commands echo through the cordor.

She charged toward them. Insectiod friction pads carried her in a corkscrew pattern up the wall, across the ceiling and down the other wall, hurling grenades and firing in tight, controlled bursts as she charged.

They dropped like flies.

Then she was among them. Snapping leaps popped her from wall to wall to ceiling, twin blades parrying and slashing in jerky, twitching movements almost too quick for the eye to follow. Two other arms fired near constant bursts of tungsten tipped penetrators.

Head.

Head.

Heart.

Spine.

Head.

The final two arms were blurs of reloads.. and grenades. Blasting concentrations of troops apart, deploying smoke for an ambush, retreat or cover and toxins to deny an area.

For twenty six minutes and thirty five seconds Synergy fought. She never tired. Insects did not fatigue. Like cars they burned fuel until they were empty; then the motor shut off.

However the endless horde of simulated STRIKE soldiers eventually proved too much. The simulation froze.

=STRIKE 6.82 b7 end. Result: Operator disabled.=

"Casualty tally?"

=314. A new record.=

"Who held the old record?"

=Ivana Strigidae.=

Synergy smirked.
